Come watch Dakota ” Double ” NHRA Champion at the Drags on Sunday!

My favorite Grease monkey is back at Irwindale Drag Strip and is the defending Double NHRA champion on his Bronze Star Racing group ZRX Kawasaki.

It would be great to see if you can make it out here to see him Race on Sunday as it will be a exciting day as this is a fast paced event that we will not miss.

 

 

 

It would be great to see if you can come out to irwindale to cheer him on, this is our chance to show everyone what we are about, Dakota is 20 years old and loves all motorcycles and is building them himself now, I would love to see you out there giving him a hoot and Holla as its a fun event for spectators.

 

The great thing with Irwindale is for Spectators you can really get close to the action, see and hear the screaming Motors, smell the Burning rubber and watch in amazement as Kota flies down the tarmac in less than 6 seconds.

59 Club Meet at Roscoes was great.

What a great night we had as the 59 Club O.C. section gathered for its monthly meet and nice to see a dozen cool Motorcycles pull up and attend this super bar and grill in Fullerton.

 

Matt had done a few modifications to his machine, losing fender, adding new design tail light and fitted my 7″ headlight with signals incorporated inside the unit and sounded great with his shorty pipes.

What a TRIUMPHANT evening to see all my buddies arrive to the meet up that my Girlfriend Jennifer arranged and so glad I have such a supportive girl in my life.

A gaggle of iron sits patiently as we have a good chin wag and play catch up with all the events that have gone past since the last meet up we had.

This venue is super to meet with people and plenty of space to chill and even watch a few games on the TV screens that are all over this place.

Sat round the fire pit was fun and am sure glad that we had a nice turn out, fun people and fun times.

Here we are all having a pow Wow, Jennifer is my girl and she organizes all these meet ups, what a fantastic girl I have.

Weather was great and always nice to see what other 59 Club members have dome to their machine and of course new potential members turned up to check us out too.

There is old signage all over this bar and I loved the place, had a wonderful feel t it.

Roscoes will be a stopping- watering hole for us on a few occasions now thats for sure.

If you like Nostalgia, then this is the place with a Capital T.

If you are ever in Fullerton, check down town out as the eateries are terrific and all old style vintage memorabilia.

This place gets busy on the weekends but what a great area to meet up with people.

I really loved the 1940’s Bakelite Rotary phone.

Plenty of eye candy that hangs from the ceiling and on the walls of Roscoes.

Check the place out if you can as I was pretty impressed with all of it.

I would love that sign in my shop, always loved the signage of Firestone.

The 59 Club, also known as The Fifty Nine Club and  ‘the 9’, is a London, England, based motorcycle club with members all over the world.

The 59 Club started as a church-based youth club founded in Hackney Wick on 2 April 1959, in the East End of London. In 1962, after a visit by Father Bill to the Ace Cafe, a motorcycle section was established in Hackney, the motorcycle section soon outgrew the club.

Club nights took place once a week on Saturday evenings at the Eton Mission, where there was ample parking and a large hall with table tennis, billiards, a juke box and a coffee bar. Motor Cycle staff writer Mike Evans in 1963 reported: “Ably managed by the Rev. Bill Shergold, the club is affectionately known by London riders as ‘The Vic’s Caff’!”.

Father Bill remained Chairman of the club until he passed away in 2009.

The Club is staffed and managed by unpaid volunteers and helpers, many of whom have done so since the Sixties.

Adopted in the 1960’s by Britain’s motorcycling youth, initially in the London area, the 59 Club badge soon became an icon of a youth culture that has continued to this day – the Rockers!

With a history and roots that includes with rock n’ roll, the 59 has evolved through the years to be an internationally renowned motorcycle club, with its headquarters in Plaistow, East London.

The Club today follows its long-standing tradition of welcoming all riders on all types and styles of bikes.

Our Beginnings in So Cal

So why a California branch of the 59 Club of England?  Well after being a member of the 59 Club for many years, I, along with friends from Los Angeles and San Diego who are also members, noticed a disparity that we felt needed to be addressed, there was no unified 59 Club representation in Southern California for members to belong to. So began the yearlong email inquiries to London about creating a new section, and having their authorization, guidance and blessings to do so.  After many, many months of communication we were given the green light to move forward with this new American section, we first created a Facebook page for current members and supporters with plans for an official website to come later. Secondly we sought approval from the Ton-Up/Rockers community in England who needed to know we were doing this with respect and the strictest adherence to British 59 Club customs and traditions. This was not going to be a rip-off of the name or a mockery of 50 years of British motorcycle culture, we wanted to do it right; we eventually got a nod of approval from a large number of Rockers new and old from England. And here we are now 4 years later with new members in Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Orange County, and San Diego; a gathering site for Southern California members who were already in the club, and a new website to respectfully promote the original 1950s/1960s British motorcycle subculture here in So Cal.

Personally, having spent time in England and Europe, and being a biker for the better half of my adult life, as well as being a Rocker for over a decade, I would like to dedicate this website to my brother and sister Rockers in England, Australia, Europe and the very, very few of us that exist here in the States. I’m proud to be a Rocker and a member of the 59 Club of England. I want to thank some important people in the Rocker/59 Club community for all their support over the last 4 years; Larry Fletcher of 59 Club – Chicago, Shadow from 59 Club – Australia, and friends from England Heather and her husband Max from the former original 59 Club – Italian Section. I also want to thank the Council of Management in London, specifically Sandra Hall, for their blessings and support of this new American section.  Lastly, I want to dedicate this new section to the growing Café Racer scene here in the U.S. and to the hundreds of American bikers in Southern California that choose to ride vintage or classic British motorcycles.  So ride with the wind at your back and the warm sun on your face, we’ll be riding up the North Circular to the Ace Café, in spirit at least.

About the California Section

The California arm of the 59 Club carries on the original club ideology and passion for vintage motorcycles like BSA, Norton, Triumph, AJS, Matchless, Royal Enfield, Ducati, Moto Guzzi, BMW, and Café Racers from Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki.  Our members come from all walks of life; blue-collar and white-collar, male and female.  Most members are in their 30s or 40s who’ve been riding for a long time, some are educated professionals, and some have families, most of us ride on the weekends, some of us ride every day.  Overall the club has a very diverse mix of people and backgrounds, but we all have one thing in common, riding vintage or classic British, European or Japanese bikes and café racers.

As an officially recognized section with card-carrying members all over Southern California we keep true to club traditions; therefore we have no club officers, no politics, very few rules, and we have zero tolerance for personal drama, racist or sexist attitudes, drug use or criminal activity. You don’t have to be a Greaser or love Rockabilly to join our section, but you do have to own, ride and maintain a bike that reflects our club philosophy, you have to understand our club history, and hopefully feel a kinship with what we represent.  We also support other clubs with similar passions.

Overall we want to keep our club and our sections focused on meeting up at out-of-the-way locales, fun rides, camaraderie and sharing a few rounds of beers with your mates.  We ride as a group, and often with other Southern California-based clubs.  We attend music & bike events, weekenders, and basically enjoy the biker lifestyle as the original Ton-Up boys and Rockers did in 1950s and 1960s Great Britain.  And where ‘cracking the ton’ was a customary rite of passage in England, it is too a rite of initiation for the California arm of the legendary 59 Club, among other traditions such as jukebox ‘record racing’ between pubs and diners.

With 59 Club Sections in the Los Angeles, San Diego, Bakersfield, and Orange County areas, there are always major bike events to attend, and there are numerous like-minded bike clubs to ride with.  We attend the annual Mods vs Rockers rides in San Diego and Los Angeles, the annual Hansen Dam ride here in L.A., the annual Venice rides, and numerous other bike events in Bakersfield and Orange Co.  As a club we try to enjoy all that Southern California has to offer by way of winding mountain roads in the east, beautiful coastal rides north, far away cafes and restaurants, long freeway excursions away from traffic and city congestion,… or sometimes we just ride down to the local pub for a pint or two.  Come join us, all are welcome.  Cheers mates

Ace Cafe in Florida

Whilst I am still in The UK spending time with my poor Mum, I thought I would try and add a video etc for the Blog and keep you up to speed on other things.

Check out the below video link to the recent “Ground Breaking” ceremony with the Mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyer – some great vehicles turned up for the event! At some point it was “Gentlemen Start Your Engines”, so that day will forever now be known as the “Ground Shaking” event and be held annually! It is planned that the cafe be fully operational in October.

 

Ace Cafe, a British hub for vintage-motorcycle and custom-car events, plans to open its first U.S. complex in downtown Orlando within a year.

Owners of the Ace brand, with its “petrol and speed” cult following, have signed a long-term lease for acreage and several industrial buildings facing Interstate 4 at Livingston Street, next to the downtown Lynx and SunRail stations.

 

I think it will be an iconic, symbolic destination,” said Mark McKee, who bought the Ace Cafe rights for North America several years ago and since has staged auctions and events with celebrities, including Jay Leno and Billy Joel.

Initial plans call for a restaurant and bar, a shop for Ace Cafe’s Rockers merchandise and a motorcycle dealership, which would likely specialize in European brands. Ace might build a motorcycle museum and repair shop later

 

The London Ace Cafe draws thousands of motorcycle and car enthusiasts to its 400 annual events. The Orlando operation would be larger, with 3 acres and more than 16,000 square feet of space, executives said.

The new cafe would provide a meeting place for car and motorcycle fans, with surface parking for fans to show up in their rides and garage parking nearby. Events could include everything from Old Ford Night and Mini Cooper meetups to gatherings for motorcycle clubs.

 

Thomas Chatmon, executive director of the city’s Downtown Development Board, said the project is unusual for the central business district because it serves as a destination for both the general public and for fans of motorcycle, car and truck shows. In addition, he said, it will reuse an existing building. The H2O Church now meets there, and McKee said he is in discussions with church leaders about accommodating them on the site.

The process of bringing an old building, the brick-clad 1926 Harry P. Leu Building, up to currentstandards is rigorous but attainable, Chatmon said. Meetings that Ace executives have had so far with the city, before applying for necessary permits, have gone well, he added.

The flagship Ace Cafe in London operated from 1938 through 1969, attracting “cafe racers” who literally raced through city streets to cafes that catered to the emerging American rock scene.

The idea was resurrected in 1994 when former mounted policeman Mark Wilsmore organized a Rocker Reunion for cafe devotees. Three years later, Wilsmore reopened the cafe, which has been featured in books, films and a BBC series. Last year, he was instrumental in opening an Ace Cafe in Beijing. The Orlando cafe would be world’s third.

Orlando stood out from about a dozen possible U.S. locations because of weather, internationalvisitors, British tourists and proximity to Daytona Beach, with its speedway and Bike Week crowds.

“It was between us and Las Vegas as we identified this site in October 2011,” said Bobby Palta, vice president with the CBRE brokerage in Orlando. “The lease negotiation was the hardest I’ve ever done. But 18 months later, we had a signed deal. In the end, Orlando won the day, and the Ace will be coming to downtown.”

Speaking by phone from the original Ace Cafe last week, Wilsmore said he and McKee, who lives in Kansas City, visited about 20 prospective sites in Orlando before choosing the spot on Livingston Street 18 months ago.

“Our agent had prepared a portfolio of properties. We jumped in a rather large vehicle. We would pull up to one and say ‘Keep driving.’ Pull up to another — ‘Keep driving,’ ” the Londoner said. “Once we got to this site, well, what we said would really be an expletive. It was spot-on — absolutely bang-on.”

Walking through the high-ceilinged building where the H2O Church now meets, McKee outlined plans for an industrial-style space with dining priced for repeat business instead of special occasions. He said his design team intends to restore an existing stage for concerts; build space for fundraisers by the 59 Club, which is billed as the largest motorcycle club in the world; and create offices for Ace Cafe North America. He could not say how much the company plans to invest in a renovation.

“We purposefully stayed away from International Drive because we wanted urban buildings to fit with the Ace brand,” said McKee, a former restaurateur and franchise developer.

 

 

 

Royal Enfield caught testing 750 Twin Motor

750cc engine will give the cafe racer some serious power

 

A Royal Enfield Continental GT has been snapped up with a powerful 750cc, twin-cylinder engine which is expected to make it to their future line of products.

By the look of things, these are not RE heads but a custom set and this bike should haul plenty of balls.

It is about time they did this as the RE needs more power for everyday Freeway use and I for one can testify for that, so stay tuned we may see some cool stuff happening .

Take our word for it RE; if you are planning to put this 750cc mill on a thumper like the Bullet or a Thunderbird, it won’t go down that well as it won’t really fit in well with the legacy. Rather the suggestion would be create a completely new platform for this engine to give it proper justice. And also given the rumors that have been floating around about Royal Enfield working on the “Himalayan” project which seems to be a tourer of sorts to be taken up the mountains to Leh & Ladakh which is the most popular bike touring place for many a bikers and the bike of choice also being the RE thumpers.

Royal Enfield is also working on a 410cc Single cylinder engine but that seems to be the new generation motor to bridge the gap between their 350cc and 500cc machines and also provide the consumers with an option to balance between efficiency and performance, though we doubt how much that is going to affect the entire thing.

Our suggestion to RE would be that it is great that they are working on an inline twin but to keep their legacy alive and also develop with the moving times, a V-twin would make more sense which can be put on the legacy thumpers in the current line up as well. As for the inline twin, it is much more suited to a smooth, vibe free natured bikes and not thumpers. So if you plan for a street motorcycle or a sports tourer, in that case the inline twin would make for a more practical application like the Triumph Tigers. But for everyday use, a cruiser with a V-twin like the Harleys would make much sense and be practically feasible.

FLYING HOME TO VISIT MY MUM

A hard time ahead right now, as I am typing this, as I am now on my way back home to Visit my Terminally ill MUM, as the Big C has almost won the fight, it is hard when you are so many thousand miles away but I need to see my Mum to say I love her and she will soon be out of pain and resting in a better place.

If it wasn’t for her, I would not be here, your MUM is a special person and don’t ever forget all she had done for you, it is not until such times as this that you reflect on the past and wished you could change it, but alas, we cannot but we can celebrate the life that all your family have had and continue it in your own life.

The road of life is an interesting highway and sometimes you get lost, take a wrong turn or even break down, but there is always other days when the trip is so fantastic that you don’t want it to end, my journey tomorrow will be a tough one but I know that when MUM see’s me, she will brighten up and she will know that I love her and want to spend this next week with her and my Brother.

I will have Dakota taking a handle on a few things to help me out and I am blessed to have him and his Mum and my girlfriend Jennifer, in my life to help whilst I am away.

My MUM was Born in North London and lived in Enfield ( Middlesex ) in Forty Hill, many cool people have lived in that part of London.And have fond memories of that place.

Enfield was recorded in Domesday Book in 1086 as Enefelde, and as Einefeld in 1214, Enfeld in 1293, and Enfild in 1564: that is ‘open land of a man called Ēana’, or ‘where lambs are reared’, from the Old English feld with an Old English personal name or with Old English ēan ‘lamb’. The feld would have been a reference to an area cleared of trees within woodland later to become Enfield Chase.

 

The Royal Small Arms Factory (RSAF) was a UK government-owned rifle factory in the London Borough of Enfield in an area generally known as the Lea Valley. The factory produced British military rifles, muskets and swords from 1816. It closed in 1988, but some of its work was transferred to other sites.

 

Just for the record… CLIFF RICHARD lived in the house on the junction of PERCY ROAD and COLNE ROAD in the early sixties.

Fond Memories of Enfield as My Aunt, Uncle and Cousin and God son are from there but now they live near my Mum in Devon, so comforting to know that she has some family there to support her, My Brother Mick and his wife Pauline have been an enormous help to Mum and I am so thankful for that, feel a little isolated when I am on the other-side of the Atlantic.

So, I now take the Big Silver Bird across the water and then a 5 hour drive down to Devon with my Brother and then get to see MUM, I know she will light up when I get there and want to let her know I am here for her and People here in the states are all wishing the best.

 

Thanks so much for the lovely emails, prayers and good wishes sent, it really is muchly appreciated and wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I will Blog as I go along so you can hear how things are going, a tough time for me and my family but I know we ALL have to go through this in some part of your life, just arriving too fast right now.

Cherry’s Company – BMW R nineT Highway Fighter

I must admit, this bike really does stop you in your tracks when you see it, I am amazed at the sheer brilliance of architecturally sculptured pieces work so well on the motorcycle.

Just look at the whole set up, it is such a stealthy machine and god enough for even a movie prop, and i would definatly sling my leg over this steed and see what it can do.

Just begging to have its neck rung out on a freeway and I love everything about this machine from Color to Contour.

I am at a loss for words right now and thats a rare thing in itself.

It is not until you look closely at the detail and of course the fit of the parts that makes you grin from ear to ear.

 

I love the seat, I have made some with tail lights like this but this is sure a thing of beauty!

With his thorough and exhaustive knowledge of the mechanics behind motorcycles,

as well as his exceptional skills that he has cultivated from his experiences, he has produced exceptional works.

His strict and absolute attitude towards making motorcycles accepts no compromise and has been perceived with the highest regards in his field.

In recent years, his range of works has grown significantly, and includes domestic brands as well as foreign brands such as BMW.

I think this is something me and Dakota may be able to build in a slightly more Affordable build but this is just great to keep looking at.

Its tough yet elegant and a real work of art, so many hours of fitting to get the aesthetics bang on!

I love thew fairing, it maye be vacuumed but I would like to see it in metal on another ride. Still kicks arse!

 

Modern set up is so key these days, I am now getting into a few GPS set up gauges and they look vintage too.

 

Love that megaphone jutting out like a shot gun, just killer details.

It’s a masterclass in the art of customizing bikes, and proof that the Japanese builders are in a league of their own. The craftsmanship, styling and sheer creativity on show is remarkable.

Seal Beach Motorcycle Show this Saturday!

 

Ok guys, Below is the show that we shall be riding too as the 59 Club O.C. Section, looking forward to seeing many other great people there for this show and I am certain there will be many cool motorcycles and cars to look at and enjoy. there will be a few of us riding from Alea’s cafe and it should be a fun ride and, any others are more than welcome to join us for the ride to the Seal Beach Motorcycle show, there will be plenty of stuff to look at for sure and I look forward to seeing you. Whether you are a fan of 2 or 4 wheel vintage vehicles, the 28th Annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show has something worth getting revved up about! Spearheaded by Tankfarm & Co. in Seal Beach, the First Annual Seal Beach Vintage Motorcycle show will feature up to 75 vintage bikes, including European favorites, BSA, Royal Enfield’s Bullet, Triumph’s classic Bonneville series and BMW. Japanese brands Honda and Yamaha will be on display as well, and it wouldn’t be a vintage motorcycle show without the American classic Harley Davidson.

Many of the classic bikes on display will be Cafe Racers, Sport Classics, Trackers and Bobbers. The term “Cafe Racer” comes from motorcycle enthusiasts of the early 1960’s who raced from café to café, sometimes exceeding 100 mph (referred to as ton-up boys).

The Seal Beach Classic Car Show is free and open to the public, with ample free parking again this year, at the Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach (Liberty Gate, at Seal Beach Blvd. and Landing Street), with pedestrian and shuttle access to the show. The show takes place Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Main Street in Old Town Seal Beach.

Car and bike enthusiasts ranging from locals and passersby to extreme aficionados will spend the day viewing 540 vintage cars in nearly 30 classes at this judged event. Festivities include live music throughout the day from bands on two stages, nostalgic displays, a Pinewood Derby and celebrity appearances.

The 28th Annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show is an official event of the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce and could not be produced without the support of generous sponsors, including Presenting Sponsor – Original Parts Group, City of Seal Beach, Sun Newspapers, Russo & Steele Collector Car Auctions, Back in the Day Classics, Tank Farm & Co., Chevron, and G&M Oil Company.

Have a look at these cool roads and tunnels that are located bang in the countryside of Spaghetti eating Italy, what a super place to take your Motorcycle.

 

Stupendous turns and drops in elevation and to be on your toes at all times, this would be such a blast to go and ride at some point.

Ride it day or night, it will always be something that you would be unsure about and how much fun would this be if there were a bunch of you?

Jeez, if you came hammering down the road and all of a sudden- Crapola! Straight into a mile of Lamb Chops!
