Honda CB500-4 Cafe Project from England Needing some Magic

This old 1972 inline four Originally came across the waters about 18 years ago now and has never run on this side of the pond, sat in storage for many years, this old girl needs a little pick me up to see if she indeed will ever run again, as no idea on the history of the bike much or if the motor is ok, but it has compression and a little bit of spark so on to at least a fighting chance.

The Carbs are a right mess and not surprised being sat for all them years and all gummed up like an old man with no teeth.

It needs two throttle cables as only one on there right now but can get new ones once I get this inline four fired up again, it is a great bike and look forward to later on in the month riding it, although the gas tank has 20 year old gas in it, so need to get that out and get rid of the toxic fumes that really stink, plus I do not want the tank to delaminate either.

Them old Gold Plastic tubes have no filters etc., so think I may get some Spun velocity Stacks or some Pod filters or bread box set up, but- the main thing is to see if this old girl will fire up, I did squirt some carb cleaner in the carbs and check for spark and she coughed a few times, but these carbs have got to be gone through and I am sure she will run.

If these carbs could only talk, I am sure many yarns would be heard and would love the history of this inline four machine as it was ridden well for quite some time back in England.

Carbs are off and they need some love, been sat for decades and never been run in that time at all, everything seems to function as well as the choke lever, so thats a good sign already.

They surely have had a hard life, but, nothing that I have not seen before in the 22 years of playing with these over here in California, and these will get a new lease of life for sure and be great to hear that old 4 cylinder Honda fire up again.

Now thats look a lot better right? These are cleaned, vapor blasted, rebuilt, new parts, polished, plated, ceramic coated and synchronized  and ready to go back on the bike.

So, at least we have a good chance of this running now and hopefully the motor is ok and will fire up after some persuading with a New battery and New fuel etc.

This is no show bike but the carbs had to be re built, so may as well go the extra mile right?

Lets get these Carbs back on the bike and see if we have a fighting chance of getting this bike fired up, I am sure it will smoke for sometime as no idea what’s up the exhaust pipe?

I got a small fuel leak from the bowls on first start up but all good now and just need two throttle cables for a snappier return but happy she fired, the exhaust I am sure will smoke for a while until it burns over 20 years of dust from inside it off, but hope you liked the video?

Carburetor Restoration Services

Well, for many years I have been rebuilding carbs on the SOHC 750 Honda, as well as the smaller 500 and 550 models, and I am still getting these sent to me to get the old crap and grime off of them and totally get then revamped to a Clean and smooth running set.

Many people have a go at sorting their rack of 4 out and get it to run, albeit out of sync etc but the people that do have a go, really know what is entailed in taking these carbs apart.

You need a lot of patience and plastic sandwich bags, to take these all apart and inspect where the blockages may be, as the journals are quite small , and even though you have cleaned the main jet and idle jet, you might of forgotten about the internal journals in the bodies.

Most of the ones I receive still stink of old gas and when you take them apart, the gooey remains of old fuel give that lovely aroma of bad petrol and that sticks to you for days, no matter what you use as hand soap to get it off of yourself.

The trick to these, if you want to call it a trick, is to strip apart, and then vapor blast these so everything is super clean, then air line it, then once that is done, ultrasonic clean them and slowly put back together, but, I like to have the parts zinc plates and the aluminum bodies powder coated, then the bowls and tops highly polished.

Above is a set of CB550 carbs that have seen better days and they run but very badly, these need to be taken apart and put back together only once they are cleaned and polished and these will look so different when they come back to you.

As you can see, its a huge change and of course for the better, the other thing is that these have all new jets and needles as well as gaskets etc, just take your time and have a look at what you get for your money, a lot of work and time spent on these.

Every thing gets taken apart, many do not and that will show up if everything else is spotless, but these are rebuilt and then bench synchronized and after that, they are run on a motor and synchronized with a mercury stick for smoother running.

Take a look at the photos I took, you can see what a difference this is, not just a can or carb cleaner and a quick wipe down, these are fully refurbished and ready to go on your inline four.

You can see the Detail here and notice New gaskets as well as hardware, the carb bodies look way better now they are coated and you have a choice of Silver stock or Black too.

Send me yours or I can sell you a set already built etc, the choice is yours to be honest, you can also have the piece of mind that these will run on your motorcycle, right out of the box and let you get on with other things, just remember to tell me what exhaust and air filter you are running to allow for jet adjustment for tuning.

You can choose a stock style, with polished bowls and top rings like the ones you see right here for the CB750K model Honda Four.

Or a wrinkle Black and polished set up thats a lovely combination for Custom builders, I like them all to be honest and I am sure that you will be stoked with these.

Send me your dirty snotty old carbs for a full tune up and a brand new lease of life, your Honda will thank you for it and no more of that choke throttle choke throttle hassle.

These will get all pulled apart and then be cleaner than a cats arse, I have rebuilt quite a few hundred of these in the 19 years and plan to continue to do this for another 20 years or so, thanks for looking and hope I can help you out.

Summer is here and time to get back on 2 wheels

We are so lucky here in Southern California, we are blessed with Sunny days most of the year round, albeit the price we pay is we get Earthquakes and we got a couple of big buggers on July 4th and 5th, with a few aftershocks on their way.

But other than that, we are fortunate to have year round riding weather, but thats not the case for most of the other parts of the USA and the world etc, especially places like Canada etr.  They have a very short riding season and its this time of year that many riders are slinging their legs over the two wheeled creations and pounding the tarmac.

If you need parts, well I am here for you all, as well as any enquiries as to how to hopefully come up with an answer to a frustrating system on the bike, maybe Carburettor issue ? Bad coils? or what oil and plugs do you recommend etc.

My job is to help you get your machione on the road for the first time or, for the millionth time again, its all good and this really is the best time of year for the two wheeled industry.

I love what I do and if I can help you get you back on the road, then I am a happy Bloke, I can help you with many parts, I have been doing these cool Vintage Stke Tuck n Roll seat assemblys for the K series Honda’s for many years and they turn our great, fit well and are comfortable, but more than anything, made by me right here in California USA!

So, have a great Tuesday and if you need help you can email me at carpy@carpyscaferacers.com or even Text me on the same number for a faster response. I ship out the same day if I have the part in stock too.

I make parts for Triumphs too, so stay tuned to the website if you have a Twinline Motorcycle and need help with that as well, this seat style I make for the HONDA and the TRIUMPH and was the first to do this style many years ago and continue to push the enevelope in making new parts for the bikes out there .

Thanks for reading my Blog today, I try and keep you up to date with whats going on, if you have a 350 to a 1000 I can usually accomidate you and get you back on the road fast, but i also have a passion for Motorcycles, been into these bkes for decades and thats where I get a lot of experience from as I have ridden them for so long.

Have a fun Tuesday and hopefully you get some time to wrench or ride on your favorite machine out there.
