CORONA DIARIES 2020 from the deep warm depths of La Mirada. California
August is now out the window, on its toes and halfway down the road, thanking god that his part of 2020 is now in the can and hopefully the next time August comes around, we might be able to life a more normal lifestyle. I mean, the one we have now sucks like a new Dyson and I will be glad when we can count down the 2020 timer on December 31st approaching midnight.
Things here have been quite crazy work wise, as I have exhaust orders up the Ying Yang and many daily custom parts flying out as soon as I make them, which tells me that people are at home building and creating their own unique two wheeled machines and I am super stoked to see that you are putting all your frustrations and down time to great use and at the end of your build, you would of created your own transportation and can enjoy 2021 way better than this year.
So today i thought I would put some vidoes on my Blog to help your day and week for that fact, go by a little easier.
And for the next segment of two wheeled entertainment.
Life in the megalopolis can grind down even the most badass individual. When the city rubs Aki the wrong way one too many times, she hustles her way onto some sweet retro custom motorcycles and gets gone… Tokyo Gone.
Next up is the amazing Jody Millhouse of Thornton Hundred motorcycles, which is based in good old Blighty, over in Milton Keynes, home of the Concrete Cows.
Thornton Hundred Motorcycles work using the latest in CAD design and CAM manufacturing technology to create truly unique designs. They are constantly re-investing and with every success comes fresh investment into new products and manufacturing techniques. They are dedicated to creating a relaxed and personal buying experience from our workshop that is based just outside of Milton Keynes, near Junction 15 just off the M1. They are also committed to delivering exceptional customer service, responding to all enquiries in a timely manner, inside and outside of working hours.
Now, check out just one build of a Brand new 2020 Triumph Bobber, as Jody takes a new ride apart and transforms it into what I would call a “Fat Attack” and creates a beast of a machine that has Cad Custom parts, hand made stainless exhaust and Custom Lower trees, I loved the clip ons that use a snap ring, very Novel. May not be your Cup of Tea but wanted to share his video as he creates some awesome works of moving art. You will have to put up with the odd commercial in between the build but its worth the look at the quality that Jody is known for.
The Goodwood Revival is a three-day festival held each September at Goodwood Circuit since 1998 for the types of road racing cars and motorcycle that would have competed during the circuit’s original period—1948–1966.
All great iconic machines, MV Augusta, Norton, Triumph, BSA, Honda etc, battling it out for a podium finish, the sound, the smell, the excitement is unreal with these old steeds.
An epic line of of original machines that is a blast to watch and see and of course, smell, and these riders do not hang about either.
Love this place and Hope to take Jennifer one of these days as the ambiance is amazing, as well as the camaraderie too. I mean, if you are not in to Nostalgic Racing motorcycles, then you wouldn’t be here.
Photo- MCN This is a great shot, not sparing the horses heading into the left hander, only thing I would love to see different is Vintage leathers and skid lids on the bikes.
Check out the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy Races Below:
Part 2 below.
The Bike Shed started back in November in 2011, really as a blog about Anthony “Dutch” Van Somerens Journey as a modern Sports bike Rider into the newer wave of Motorcycles and the scene such as “Cafe Racer, Brat, Tracker etc and wrote about New Bikes and builders new on the scene to show what is getting so very popular these days and of course, creating an interest into building your own machines or getting the Bike Shed to create one for you.
The Blog attracted a Crew of mates and of course contributors who shared the same passion for these 2 wheeled manifestations. Such as Tim & Kev from the Spirirt of the Seventies. Adam from United Motorcycles, and art Director Barry, from Two Wheels only and Deluxe Motorcycles.
First bike show was a little later in 2013 and from then on it has grown and grown and here is a video of todays show.
Always great to have a look at and seeing as I am a brit, you can see that us Europeans live and breathe this stuff, what surprises me is that there is always a number of bikes that blow you away, I mean, you think that there is nothing left to do custom wise any more, but bugger, you always get gobsmacked by something every-time.
So sit back today as its Tuesday, put ya feet up when you get a break at work and watch this on your PC or phone, plenty of snippets of cool Motorcycles that I know you will dig as much as I did.
Need boots or Gloves? Check these out.
Few more little vids for you to watch to make your day go by a little easier.
Different videos from different people, that way, you get to see different creations and views, hope you enjoy?
Today we head off to the OG show once more, but today is open to the public and there will be way more motorcycles turning up, over 100 today to be shown in the rear part of the building, this is an awesome show with cool people. The buildings are amazing, the outer walls are literally plastered with great designs and people, come and check the special art area out as that has Motorcycles and a really cool live look static display that will make you laugh. Old and New meet in the middle here and we hope to meet you, Motorcycles are my life and love that there are so many people with the same interest, sure hope that you can take some time out and make this event.
My Metalflake Harlequin will be on a wooden platform with the other special invite Builders, come in and have a look at all these super cool machines, there will be many to look at, great music, and some awesome vendors, come out and enjoy the Easter weekend.
Hope to see you there, Ride Safe.
Well this morning I loaded up the van and took the Harlequin Honda down the 5 Freeway to Los Angeles, fighting traffic all the way and then off at Seventh street, I passed a few Old style warehouses and new I was in the right area for this weekends OG show.
So, I pulled up on Anderson in the Industrial area and drove round the back where a friend of mine Donald Leonhardt was helping out and offered to give me a hand take the bike out, Cheers Don I was stoked to have help, as the 750 is no lightweight machine.
We eased the bike into the old Warehouse and there was a hive of activity, the smell of fresh paint and cut timber filled the air, along the concrete floor are a number of hand made wooden Pallet style platforms, for which the “Invited Builders” will be displaying their machines and I was lucky enough to be one of those builders.
So many cool machines had already turned up and the amount of attention to detail and engineering feats were mind boggling, Leonardo Devinci would of been right at home here, and to add to that, the building next door will be displaying cool art and design, as well as that, there were a few cool areas for Vendors. Such as Beringer Brakes, Deus, Tobbaco Motowear Co, Stellar Mo brand and many many more.
The building is a superb venue and you can look at the bikes that are on the Wooden platforms, check out the vendors upstairs etc and then walk out the building into the alley at the rear to see more Vendors, more motorcycles and yest another building where the Art show will be, so a great Horseshoe shaped event thats super easy to navigate.
Many bikes will be there, close to 100 I should think, so if you have a chance, get down to the show this weekend, it will be a fun place to be for sure. I am looking forward to see what all is on display, love seeing other bikes that have been created.
I am sure there will be something for everyone and many different manufacturers machines will be sat proudly for you to look and absorb.
Hutch will be there with his awesome Beemer, this thing is off the hook, I love the minimalist look and lines , such a lot of time to get it to this standard.
Below is the info you may need.
http://www.ogmotoshow.com/info/ Hope you can make it out, this will be a really good show and not to be missed, plus a chance to chat to some of the builders, these bikes may give you food for thought and you start a creation of your very own.
See you there, you can text me on 714-598-8392 to see if we are close by for a chinwag, be great to see you all.

Well, on the 18th of this Month was Rockers day in Hong Kong, I have become friends with these great Rockers, and it just goes to show the commeraderie that has spread globally in the scene that I have been a part of for more decades than I care to count.
Like me, they love Motorcycles and the culture too, once a year they have this event and seems to be getting more popular, glad to be able to show these to everyone that reads my Blogs as these are truly fun people enjoying their passion for the 2 wheeled machines and the clothing.
Above, Kenji hanging out with his steed and rides this a lot. The S.R.B.C. stands for Street Retro Bikers Club.
Lining up and ready to hit some more tarmac in Hong Kong, one of these days I hope to Take Jennifer there to meet these great people and share their passion.
There are great roads to ride and you can see that there does not seem to be as much traffic as you would think in a country that has a population of 7.34 Million.
Just some photos from their pages to let you see what they get up to and boy is it Nostalgic.
Cool Lewis Leather jackets and pants with Period styled 50’s belts, these are the real deal and enjoy what they do for fun, no attitudes, just fun.
I love this photo as there isnt many Rockers in the states that live the lifestyle, hopefully that will change but for me, to see these with their Lewis Boots and gasolina’s with White Rocker seaboot socks, looks so Britain in the 1960’s, love the shot taken here.
Michael-CW-Chiu takes some great photos and thank him for doing such a fantastic job in capturing the Spirit of what we all love in 2 wheeled Nostalgia.
I am so surprised that there is not tons of cars all over the place bumper to bumper.
Love the Black and white, you cant tell if its hot or cold and makes you make up your own feeling of the shot that has been taken.
Having fun when doing the Ton! A nice photo taken at speed a really great picture.
Rocking the Number 27, which when I lived in London and looked at the Menu it was Hong Kong Duck.
Love this shot as Kenji focuses on the job at hand as he rides through the streets of the City.
Looks like it was a fun day out, not sure where they were headed but if I do I shall post on this page.
Seems to be plenty of others in the pack and would of loved to hear a sound byte if there was someone on the Bridge.
Thumbs up as they Blap by on their BSA.
It must of sounded great in that tunnel. What a great time to get out and enjoy your Motorcycle with like minded friends.
Another good shot as they exit the tunnel.
Hey wait for me.
This could be anywhere and any year, nice photo.
Entering the City with Jimmy Sin.
The Horses are now in the stable.
Kenji De and Coan Kee pose next to their cool Cafe Racer machines and look great together.
Looked to be a fun day out, if I see more photos I will share as I know many people are into the bikes and Lifestyle like I am. Great job on the event such a fun time I am sure.?
I have always loved full fairings. Kenji De on his Machine.
Happy Hump day folks.
Sometimes, people ask me all sorts of question on the Motorcycles I work on, now, here is a superb explanation from Hot Bike, that clearly informs you as to the purpose of a Constant mesh Sequential gearbox and how they function.
So there you go, today you may of picked up a little more understanding of a close ratio gearbox and hope it cheered your day up?
Thanks for watching and now you know what the real term “Shifting gears” means.
Well, I have seen this footage before but cannot remember for the life of me if I have Blogged about it, thats old age catching up you see.
I grew up with Motorcycles and many being just hand me downs or something I have managed to resurrect over time as I simply didn’t have the money back in the 1970’s, I left school in 1978 but in 1972 and 1974 Arthur Scargill put the Coal Miners on strike and again and a decade later, he led the union through the 1984–85 miners’ strike, a major event in the history of the British labour movement. It turned into a confrontation with the Conservative government of Margaret Thatcher in which the miners’ union was heavily suppressed.
Many people were unemployed over 3 million to be exact, and seeing as we only had 50 Million people as the population that was a huge loss in the countries earnings and it was hard to afford anything at all, especially new.
Then we discovered Hire Purchase, the never never as we called it, you can buy something new on tick and just pay for it out of your wages every month, how cool was that.
But watching this video I realized how lucky I was to have just the piece of crap bike and do my own wrenching to make it stand out from the rest but- apart from that, I wanted to be the fasted bike around and did all I can to squeeze every last possible drop of HP from my machine, no matter if it made the motorcycle regularly break down, you knew your bike and had parts to fix it.
I can relate to this Ton up crew, they may of been 10 years before me but the working class folk didnt change at all for another couple of decades, now we have a middle class and consider myself to be in that guise but I am not embarrassed at what we didnt have as I was super stoked with what I did have.
So I wanted to share a few videos with you today to show the good old British spirit and even as it may seem a little suppressed, we made the most of what we had and still do today. And below you will see some News reel that shows what went on at the Bank Holidays in Britain.
Now my Old Man is a Cockney, a bit of a hot head and was a Teddy Boy in the East End of London, Walthemstowe to be exact, a real Cockney as he was Born within the sound of Bow bells.
Now, everyone talks about the fights at Brighton with the Mods and the Rockers, its well documented indeed these days.
My old man went there once in a blue moon but would prefer to go to the other Beach resorts of Clacton on Sea or Southend on Sea, and that is where many dust ups occurred between Mods and Rockers, many big seaside resorts had these Bank Holiday brawls and many flocked to be part of it as with failing Youth clubs and strict families, Teenagers needed to blow off steam and this is what they did.
Not just them, in the 70’s and 1980’s thats what me and My Brother did too, I’d go to Brighten or up the East coast to Great Yarmouth and Mods and Rockers would get into it there, looking back I am a little embarrassed about it but its my life and my old Mans- And I wont hide the fact that is what went on in my youth, just part of life at that time I suppose.
Also we had Whitsun Holidays just like another bank holiday we would all go to the Sea Side and they were known back then as the Battle on the beaches.
So I wanted just to show a few Videos on here to give you a little understanding of what went on, its all water under the bridge and I have some fantastic mates that were Mods, we all get on but back then we were like 2 opposing football teams.
Plenty here for you to watch and take in and see if you can get your head around this rebellious era that was so much a part of my life.
Some of the videos will show real footage etc and just goes to show how the Young generation were rebelling, when positives and Negatives touch, well, of course you are going to get sparks.
And now we see more and more women riders and I really love it, my girlfriend Jennifer rides and so enjoy seeing her take off down the tarmac.
Lets get more Women on Machines its so much fun, when the two of you do the Ton.
We meet up and go on rides and even have a camp out soon at Joshua tree its going to be fun riding with my Girl.
Thanks for reading my Blog today, be safe out there and if you ever want to join us you can check out our rides on meetup.com we have one this Thursday too.

11 Rockers! Went
Have a great Wednesday and if you want to come check us out at the 59 Club Orange County Section, it will be great to see you.
I was reading through some articles last month and let you lot know that automotive giant Mahindra from India had purchased outright the British BSA brand name and all the rights attached to it.
Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, confirmed the arrival of a new BSA model which is currently under development So lets see what Happens.
Probably the inspiration for the new one to be both modern and retro. Mahindra also confirmed its intention to launch Jawa bikes in India by early 2019 but I will keep you posted.
Here is what I absorbed when I heard about this.
Indian Automotive giant Mahindra signed an exclusive licensing arrangement through its subsidiary, Classic Legends Private Limited, to build new BSA and Jawa motorcycles.
Mahndra and Mahindra Ltd. has been producing scooters and small displacement commuter motorcycles for the Indian market since 2008. In 2016, the company purchased the rights to the long-defunct and much beloved Yezdi motorcycle brand. For those who don’t know, Ideal Jawa Ltd. produced licensed copies of Jawa bikes and scooters for the Indian market from 1960 until 1996. The bikes were badged as Jawas until 1973, and then as Yezdi motorcycles until the company ceased production in the 90s. To support the acquisition, Mahindra launched a Yezdi website full of great history about the mighty little two-strokes and their fine racing heritage.
Along with the Yedzi brand, Mahindra also acquired legendary British bike brand BSA as well as Jawa. Now it seems that the company plans to up its motorcycle game by producing new BSAs and Jawas as part of a campaign to supplement their commuter bikes with upscale “premium” motorcycles.
“We are very excited about the new journey that we are embarking upon in the two wheeler space,” said Dr. Pawan Goenka, Mahindra’s Automotive Business Managing Director. “Our focus on the premium, niche segment through Classic Legends will bring alive some iconic brands like BSA and JAWA, not just in the form of products but as an entire life style”
According to Auto Pro Mag, sources in the industry state that the new Jawa and BSA bikes will be sold separately from the Mahindra bikes, and will have their own dealership network. Rumors also suggest that the bikes will be produced at the Mahindra plant in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, with BSAs being sold mostly in Europe and the Americas and Jawa sold primarily in Asian markets.
I am hoping this is a great foot forward for us Brit style Motorcycle enthusiasts, the main issue that has to be addresses is 2 fold , especially for me in California.
Pricing, and of course Reliability. As a kid I always remember the Old man saying BSA stood for Bastard Stopped Again- So lets hope that this can be sorted from the get go and bring out a fun looking classic with some Zip in its step.
Have a great Thursday all.
