April – Houston Motorcycle Auction

 

We don’t have a lot of detail about this one. But it might be worth checking out if you’re in that neck of the woods around the appropriate time or fancy taking a punt online.

Mecum Auctions is running a number of sales over that weekend ranging from cars to motorcycles to automobilia to whatever comes along. The cars (around 1000 of them) will be sold between 10th and 11th April. Two wheelers go under the hammer the following day. Sunday.

The Mike Doyle Museum Collection gets the star billing on the motorcycle platform and boasts over 100 lots. Doyle, who hails (or hailed) from Dixon, California, amassed a huge private and very eclectic collection of motorcycles. We don’t know if he is alive or dead, but the collection is surplus to requirements.

The machines include various Harleys, BSAs, Triumphs and Ajays; a Mustang or two; plenty of Hondas; an Ivory Calthorpe; a Benelli; a tribe of Indians and …well, all kinds of obscure stuff. You’ll get dizzy checking the list.

 

 

 

▲1946 486cc Scott Flying Squirrel. Doyle Collection. “No British motorcycle collection is complete without a water-cooled Scott.” We like ’em plenty, but they’re very much an acquired taste, and best served rare.

 

 

 

▲Lot U67 1942 Indian 841, one of 1,000 built at the request of the US War Department. Shaft drive, 4-speed, transverse V-twin, the 841 (like Harley’s rival XA model) was not a success and helped put Indian in the poor house. That’ll teach ’em to muck around with a tried & tested formula…

 

 

▲Lot U16. 1960 T20 Tiger Cub. Doyle Collection. A run of the mill Cub filling a Cub shaped hole. Much of the collection looks similarly unfocussed, but represents a lot of obsessive dedication. It is possible to have too many motorcycles. Ask Doyle.

Also in the weekend sale are a number of “road art” lots, notably a collection of guitars signed by bands such as Aerosmith, Eagles, ZZ Top, Van Halen and the Rolling Stones. Plenty, if not most of the lots, have no reserves, so there could be a real chance of snapping up a bargain here. We’ve got our eyes on Lot J24, below, which is a Strat-style guitar autographed by the Rolling Stones. We could certainly find a spot on the Sump garage wall for that.

 

Go check it out of you can- I’d love to be there to see this cool old iron.

Finned Polished Aluminum Oil Tank Cap

 

 

Here we are with another New product from us here and this is something you may really like?

 

 

 

This is our very own finned oil tank cap that is machined from 6061 T6 and then polished to a chrome finish.

 

A really nice set up for your machine and an instant Custom look and easy to fit too.

 

 

 

This has been machined so that it fits snug over your old beaten up dipstick cap and literally, just tap it on and you are good to go.

Remember to fit your dipstick to the tank first then decide where you want the fins to fit, I prefer to have them Horizontal, then just tap the cap on, I ten take the dip stick off and tap it with a Hyde hammer with a cloth on it ad that’s it, as simple as that.

 

A very cool look and ready to rock in no time at all.

If you have a Cafe Racer, a Chopper, a Bobber, a Brat or a Custom and want to clean up the oil tank , then this is a really cool way to do it.

Sprocketwerkx double engined Blown CB750

I am amazed at the skills of many people out there- some are on another planet.
Take a look at this Eaton M90 Blower , well its wedged between 2 cb750 S.O.H.C .Engines, which are roughly 1064cc each and probably hooked to a Lenco tranny, this monster will certainly turn heads once fired up, the amount of work by Cliff at SprocketWerkx is immense and something that I hope he gets plenty of attention in all the magazines for talent.

So much time and hard work to get this where it is today, looks like a Harley timing chains were used to be able to handle the torque and lash from thee 2 built motors.
Great job my friend, cant wait to see it in real life.

HAPPY FRIDAY- Just some Tunes for ya!

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE !


Well, this time has already got here fast and I thought I would add some cool tracks that I really dig, you may not like any of them, but I love stuff like this.
My Mate Geordie Paul sent me this one and I love the track, as well as the cool filler in the screen, just ROCKS!

REAR WHEEL RETAINER REMOVAL TOOL

 Well, I have struggled over the years with the front and rear wheel bearing retainers, as removing them was a royal pain in the dirt box- so after a wee bit of thought and a cup of PG tips- Eureka! I found a good way of helping me get around this issue and we came up with this tool.

 I also have the tool for the front retainer too, so I am now all sorted in any of the bearings that I have to get to and thought I would offer these to you lot as well.

 This is a great little set up and Chrome plated and will fit in your tool box easily until you need to use it.

 

 You will not understand how cool this is, until you try and get your bearing out and you use a chisel or screw driver to try and tap the retainer out and destroy it.

 

 So, have a look and see what you think, I have used mine a few times already as we have quite a few long term builds to finish and boy did this save me time.

 

 

 Below you will see the steps that I do for the rear, as you see, you can notice that Honda actually peened the retainer in 4 places, now this is just an extra safety precaution that they did, sometimes the tool can simply undo the retainer and not worry about the peened holes, but- if she does not want to budge, this is an easy removal if you have a drill and a small bit.

 Now, just use the smallest drill bit and drill straight down, this will release the pressure on the retainer and believe me, the retainer will undo and go back in, I have done this at least a Hundred times.

 Simply place the tool in place, push down a little and let your ratchet do the work and this will come undone and get that dame thing out.

 

 We have sold a few of these already and of course make super gifts for the old man for Birthday or chrimbo, a handy tool that takes no more room up in your tool box than another socket.

 

 

 Do not worry about the drilling, HONDA used to do it this way too and I was taught at a HONDA shop over 2 decades ago how to do this and have Never had an issue, just vacuum the swarf up and you are fine, either use your old retainer as it will wind back in, or use a New one, as we sell the retainers on the parts pages, so we have you covered for all your parts and tools you need for your inline Four.


 

 I did it on My last ride with no issues. So have a good long look and if you see this is just what you need, we have a shopping cart and off you go and order it- we ship usually the same day too and are open 6 days a week.

 

 

 

 

New Bike in My stable

Well, Over the years I have owned a few of these Triumph Thruxtons and I thought it was about time that I purchased a newer model and am going to be making parts for this machine, from exhaust systems, to seats and cool bolt on goodies.

 

Here is my 2013 Thruxton I have named the “Flying Gherkin” its a fun machine and is going to have My new parts fitted along the way, so stay tuned.


Drawing on Triumph’s rich racing heritage, the bike is of course named after the legendary English race circuit where the company had so much success.

A more powerful, more focused version of the  Bonneville, the Thruxton also looks absolutely right, and is a credit to the engineers and stylists at Triumph.

 

This bike has captured the imagination of accessory manufacturers everywhere, and we are no exception! If ever there was a machine born to be customized, this is it.

This will be a fun ride and am looking forward to adding many parts of our own to this motorcycle, I have owned them before and enjoyed the power range of this 900cc Cafe, and I hope you like and follow what we do and produce for the little Brit Racer.

I had a 2004 and a 2005 Thruxton and did many cool rides, even to Sturgis and it never missed a beat, a reliable fun and medium sized machine that will give you so many miles of smiles, something I know that we all like to do is see other machines out there and hope to see some of your rides.

Stay tuned to the website as we are having a Brand new one that is almost completed and it will be a fun adventure for us all.

The camaraderie with Motorcycles is such a family atmosphere these days, it makes all that hard work well worth it and look forward to meeting some of you in person.
