Well, here is the holy grail of cool old snot and rust to spend the day rummaging around in, I would love to dig around here for a few days to be honest.
I spent over an hour adding photos from around the internet but- I am pooped, so this is enough for you lot to get ya heads round, enjoy.

There’s probably not one of us reading this who hasn’t at one point dreamed (or still does dream) about owning a salvage yard. The possibilities for vehicular mayhem and resurrection are just about endless, and you’d have plenty of places to stash your project cars under the guise of a legitimate business. Unfortunately, not too many salvage yards left have much old stuff, but L&L Classic Auto in Wendell, Idaho, does, and the owner is retiring and putting up the business and all of its 80-acre inventory for sale. From the seller’s description:

80 Acre Auto Salvage in Idaho. The largest in the North West, with an inventory of over 8,000 cars. The owner is ready to retire. Built from the ground up, this yard is one of, if not the oldest, largest continually operated yard. It is a piece of American history. Mostly domestic vehicles with a sprinkle of others. Located in Wendell, Idaho, there is plenty of room for expansion. Give us a call; we would love to tell you more. Or better yet, come view it for yourself. 2 miles north of Wendell, it is located on a main highway and only 3 miles off of the freeway. We sell cars and parts all over the world. Probably only 75 percent of this yard is actually inventoried, since it was started in the 60′s. This place needs an energetic car lover that could update the inventory and incorporate a website to capitalize on global sells. Someone who wants to save history, not crush it!

  • The majority of our inventory is heavy with 50s-70s parts. Many of our parts were removed when these cars were only 5-10 years old andd safely stored away.

Art, sketching and an easy way to learn?

Well, there is a title that’s hard to explain in one sentence.

But I am going to try and add some stuff on here that I personally find really interesting and yes, I draw from time to time, mostly the low brow art, which has everything to do from Sailor Jerry style tattoo flash to cool Hot Rod style art.

First off, I am going to add some speeded up art that some amazing people have done and I am sure you are amazed at some of their styles, I am a pen to paper sort of guy and would have no clue how to generate this style of art but art is art and I love the outcome and it still is their own style.
So have a look and you decide.

A cool Hot Rod related speed sketch here for you to watch.

I love doing ‘Lowbrow ” art and thought that some of this may be of interest to you lot?

One of California’s coolest Low brow artist and avid Hot Rodder is Robert Williams.

Robt. Williams is one of the most popular artists in America today.
His dynamic work — which often includes women, cars, food, and 1950’s Americana –embodies the movement known as Kustom Kar Kulture.

Robt. masters the so-called “lowbrow” art-forms: rock album cover art, comic art, hot-rod art, etc.

*note: Robt. Williams created the cover art for Guns n’ Roses: Appetite for destruction in 1987.

In mid 1960s San Francisco, Robt. became art director for hot-rod hero Ed “Big Daddy” Roth. Robt. quickly became one of the most important West Coast underground artists – creating psychedelic posters and contributing to comics like Zap.

Robt. Williams is one of the most sought-after artists of the 90s and is considered the founding father of Cartoon Surrealism.

*note: Nicolas Cage, Leonardo diCaprio, Johnny Depp, Jesse James & many other celebrities have purchased Robt. Williams’ paintings.

A very cool buddy of mine is the Infamous Von Franco.

Pin Up Artist- Vaughn Bass, another top artist from back in the day.

Vaughan Alden Bass

Vaughan Alden Bass was a Chicago artist who began his pinup career during the 1930s.

He appears to have been strongly influenced by the circle of artists that grew up around Haddon Sundblom.

Bass created his own pinups for for Brown & Bigelow, but he was then employed by the Louis F. Dow Company as a “paint-over’ artist, commissioned to redo the work that Gil Elvgren had previously created for the company. Dow was motivated by economic interests, hoping to earn more money from such “re designed” Elvgrens. Fortunately, Bass was a skilled and sensitive artist: he strove to leave the faces, hands, skin, and other key areas of the Elvgrens essentially untouched. However, he occasionally had to repaint an arm or hand because it had to be repositioned to accommodate a new over painted image.

His painting style was often compared to that of Elvgren, Al Buell, and Joyce Ballantyne. He worked in oil on canvas in almost the same sizes as the others.

In the 1950s, the versatile Bass did a series of spectacular oils depicting wrestling scenes that clearly demonstrated his ability to be comfortable with any subject matter. He created the “Wonder Bread Girl” in the 1950s using his daughter Nancy as his model. His portrait of President Dwight D. Eisenhower is in the Smithsonian institution in Washington D.C.

I always was impressed with the look of these girlies and I thought it would be great to share a few of these with you.
