Mugen Honda MRV1000 – Should of Produced this cool ride.

For many moons I have wanted to see this one off Prototype, but alas, so far, I have only read about it and seen it on you tube, but it always warrants a little bit of a write up, the Knee slider did a bang up job, so thought I would add their bit on here too, but they should of made this machine, even so more now as the trend is hot to trot and I would buy one, so, come on Mr Hirotoshi Honda, lets get this together and on the tarmac, and of course- affordable would be nice!!!

At this year’s Isle of Man TT, there was a classic parade with many old machines not seen in a long time, among those participating was this odd motorcycle, a Honda Mugen MRV1000. A quick look shows a strong British influence with an engine style reminiscent of an old Vincent, but what the heck is a Mugen MRV1000?

Honda Mugen MRV1000 engine

From the little information available, it seems Hirotoshi Honda, son of Honda founder, Soichiro Honda, founded a company by the name of Mugen in 1973. The company built Honda based racing engines and has evidently been pretty successful, but Hirotoshi is a Brit bike enthusiast and wanted to build something along the lines of a Vincent.

Honda Mugen MRV1000

The MRV1000 was an attempt to create a limited production street bike with a 4 valve, twin carb, 1000cc V-Twin. After they built it they realized it would cost far too much to be marketable and this prototype is the one and only of its kind.

The engine definitely has the look of a Vincent, though I think the originals had slightly better lines. It would have been interesting if Honda would have produced the MRV1000. They can build interesting machines with British styling cues, the GB500 for instance, but even there, it never sold well and now is recognized in hindsight as having been quite nice with collectors always on the lookout for low mileage examples. With that history, it’s likely this one wouldn’t have sold well, either, followed after a time when everyone would be scrambling to buy one. Go figure. Anyway, it’s something I had never heard of until I ran across a short piece in Classic Bike magazine. Another one that might have been.

Although in 20120 Kuniomi Nagamatsu  took the motorcycle to the Isel of Man for the Parade lap in 2010 and on the Gooseneck Bend, he fell off, sending the machine sideways into the bend, luckily at a slow speed and the bike was ok, a rare motorcycle that not many of us will be lucky to see im afraid.

THE CONCEPT

5 years ago when we hosted the first One Motorcycle Show, we wanted to get people together for an event centered around the idea that the greatest bikes were the ones built, restored, re-worked, re-invented and re-imagined for a reason. We wanted to bring the builders and bikes together, give them a place to tell a story, and make some friends with other like-minded folks. A motorcycle show for motorcyclists by motorcyclists.

We’re particularly excited about this years show. It has been our simple and always challenging goal to make each show twice as good as the year before. With that in mind, we listened to the comments and suggestions from last year. The overwhelming consideration was that we had outgrown the space. Over 120 custom motorcycles + 6-8,000 attendees a day… we need a bigger space. We’re very excited to announce that we have a new location about a ½ mile away with twice the amount of space. It’s the building of One Show Dreams.

We are very pleased to announce once again that the show is FREE to exhibit and to attend. This show is the culmination of the hard work volunteered from everyone involved, and the sponsorship from brands and companies who see the value in an event like this.

Biker gangs bring war to Britain: Cops fear clashes as crews roll into Europe

Britain is bracing itself for a wave of deadly biker gang turf wars which could start rolling across Europe.

Police have warned that violent gangs from America, Canada and Australia – some armed with assault rifles and grenades – have arrived on the continent.

It has raised fears that there will be a surge in violence as the “Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs” battle it out for supremacy and control of organised crime markets.

The UK has been put on alert by Europol, the EU’s law enforcement agency, which says the arrival of the Comancheros and Rebels from Australia, Rock Machine from Canada plus the Mongols and the Vagos from the US has sparked tensions with established biker gangs.

The OMCGs are said to be recruiting far-right militants, football hooligans and members from ex-military circles as they look for control of drug, gun and human trafficking routes.

But many of the gang members are not thought to be proper bikers – some do not even own a bike or have a driving licence.

The Outlaws, who have 30 chapters in England and Wales, were behind the murder of Hells Angel Gerry Tobin, 35.

He was shot in the back of the head while riding his Harley -Davidson on the M40 in 2007.

Europol, who have told British police to monitor UK gangs closely, fear a return of the Great Nordic Biker Wars of the 90s that left 12 dead and nearly 100 wounded.

Large swathes of Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway saw rival gangs battle over “drug turfs”.

It began with a car park shoot-out that quickly escalated when an anti-tank rocket was fired at a Hells Angels clubhouse.

The war raged with shootings, street assassinations and bombings.

It ended after an innocent passer-by was killed by a car bomb.

A Europol spokesman said: “Establishing a chapter on the turf of another gang is interpreted as an act of provocation. This is likely to result in violent confrontations which could include the use of rifles like Kalashnikovs and explosive devices such as grenades.

“Given the significant expansion of gangs in Europe, we have informed law enforcement partners of the risk of clashes.”

Down underground: Australian bike gangs

The fight riders

There are various biker gangs linked to crime.

Most famous are the Hells Angels – started in California in 1948.

The US Department of Justice says it has links to drug dealing, extortion and prostitution.

The Outlaws were formed in the US in 1935.

Members were jailed for a 30-strong brawl at Birmingham Airport in 2008.

The Australian-based Comancheros – named after a John Wayne film – have been involved in deadly feuds with Hells Angels.

Also in Australia, the Rebels demand members ride Harley-Davidsons. Police raids found drugs, guns and a crocodile.

Rock Machine started in Quebec and is active in the Canadian drug trade.

California’s Mongols attract ex-soldiers.

Another US gang is Vagos – whose members wear green.

Chrome 4 into 2 EXHAUST SYSTEM for S.O.H.C. HONDA 1969-1978

What a Great start to the New year and here is our Latest Product from us at the shop.

Here we are with my New 4 into 2 exhaust systems, they are now ready to be Double Nickel plated and then they can be shipped off to anyone that has a 1969-1978 CB750 HONDA.

That’s the S.O.H.C. Machine to you and these are available in Double Nickel plating or if you want we can Ceramic coat them Black.

These are our first ones back from the platers and I am so stoked about these.

I am sure that you will agree, that these are really Nostalgic and suit the machine, especially a SOHC Model.

These are now available to you lot around the globe.

If you want a yesteryear look, these these are the puppies right here and now.

We are proud to say these are made here in the states and and none of that over sea’s issues with wrong model etc.

These are a great exhaust and I shall be adding more photos as I go along, I shall also be fitting a set to my very own Cafe Racer machine so you can see and hear them as i fire it up and ride her around. We are very excited about our New product as the Mac style are OK but have no thickness and sound too quiet.

So many people asked me about this set up and I hope you like what we have done here as it took quite some time, once these are Nickel plated they can be shipped and that will be next week for sure, so place your orders as I only have 12 sets right now.

Have a look, you will see that these are all hand bent and welded, these take time to make but that’s how they did it back in the day and that is how I want them on my bikes and thought that you lot would also like them.

These will look in the same style as the Paul Dunstall pipes of the day and am sure that you will like the way these sweep upwards too.

Sturdy and hug the frame well, these also have a Brazed captive nut so if you want to mount your own bracket to where ever you can, it is there for you to decide.

Now, right now I have One set in Black that I fitted to the 78K model and you can use the main stand too and that’s a nice option.

Once these are Nickel plated, these will shine and look just like they were originals from back in the day, we looked long and hard at designing these ans fitted this system a dozen times until i liked the bends and the sweep etc and I am now pleased to say that this is how I envisioned these to look like. I am looking forward to fitting a set to my bike but they will be a Stainless set, but unless you have $800, we will only supply them on demand in stainless right now.

Have a look and see what you think, by next week I will have these Nickel plated and they will look great, but wanted to get these on the website for the New year and I have now managed that. I fitted these but painted this Black so you can see how they look a different color but this also is fitted to a 1977 CB750K and it fitted very well.

These are $499 a set and come complete with Nickel coating and the baffles as well, these will really set your machine off and we are proud to have these for sale to you.

Finally these are ready and I am happy to offer them to you, and yes of course we ship all over the globe too as we make all the other exhausts from cb350 up to the dohc 750, so keep checking our product lines as we are going to be making other systems too.

These Exhaust systems are ideal for you if you are building that Cafe Racer, Brat or Custom machine, or – just want to take your old rusty stock pipes off and have some exhaust that scream the style of the race track days of the mid 1970’s, and we tried hard to get these to look the part.

Please let us know if you want any more photos etc and we shall do our very best to answer all your questions. I am sure that you are curious now and as I said we only have 12 sets of these right now, we shall be manufacturing some more but have many other systems we are working on right now, including Royal Enfield too.

So- have a good look and remember, these are raw steel, 049 wall from cold rolled, but we shall be Nickel plating them to give it that Vintage look. These sit very well and give the Motorcycle a Racing look right out of the box.

We just painted these Black, so you could see them as a different color and they look pretty cool like that as well.

Also these are removable baffles too, look how thick the Aluminum end cap is. These are first class and you will see how well the systems are made when you unwrap them.

Shipping is about $45 to NY and FL and a wee bit cheaper the closer you are to us as we ship via FED EX.

OK, here we are with the Nickel plated ones and boy do they look great.

We will be fitting these to my main machine this week, that way you can see how they look and fit etc.

A lot of time went into this and I am sure that you will dig the look as much as I do.

We love what we do here and hope that you continue business with us as you have before, we enjoy making new friends and hearing of your personal builds too.

The Green Lady – who was she?

Revealed after 60 years… the real Green Lady whose face is on a

million living room walls

By DAN NEWLING
[datecreated]

The flowing black locks are instantly recognisable, as are the  flared nostrils and ruby lips.

But thankfully, her skin has lost its emerald glow.

This is Monika Pon, the Green Lady whose face has adorned millions of British sitting-room walls.

'Chinese Girl' - This is Vladimir Tretchikoff's original Chinese Girl/Green Lady picture
Monika Pon recreating the pose captured in Vladimir Tretchikoff's Chinese Girl aka The Green Lady. She is wearing the same clothes she wore for the original sitting

Was she on your living room wall? Monika Sing-Lee recreates the pose captured in Vladmir Tretchikoff’s famous picture The Green Lady – the world’s most reproduced painting that made the artist’s fortune

Following an interview with Tabitha Lasley in Marie Claire magazine, the true story behind the world’s most reproduced painting was revealed.

Its artist, Russian-born Vladimir Tretchikoff, always claimed his subject was a woman he met in San Francisco.

In fact it was 17-year-old Monika Sing-Lee, who was a single girl working in her uncle’s laundry in Cape Town in the early 1950s when Tretchikoff heard of her beauty from a friend.

‘He walked in, stared at me and said, “Hello, I’m Tretchikoff. I would like to paint you. Would you sit for me?”,’ recalled Mrs Pon, now in her mid-70s.

‘I didn’t know what to say – I was very naive about these sorts of things. I had been told by men that I was beautiful and sexy, and my friends said when I walked down the street everyone noticed me.

‘But growing up in the apartheid era, everyone hated the Chinese and at home I was called “flat face”. So I never felt pretty.’

Nonetheless she agreed and, for two days a week over the following ten weeks, Monika posed for the Russian artist and 15 of his students in the sessions which produced the picture officially titled The Chinese Girl.

‘I would sit on a little stage, which was slightly raised,’ she recalls. ‘I wore a pure silk jacket that belonged to his wife. In the picture it’s a different colour to how it was in real life. But it’s the same one.

‘He was handsome and attractive and he made me laugh. We had such fun.  But he was always a gentleman to me.’

Tretchikoff paid her just over six South African pounds for her time: a fee equivalent to around £130 now.

Monika was happy with the money but the painting, when she eventually saw it, did not impress her.

The artist: Vladimir Tretchikoff painted Miss Pon in the early Fifties after a friend told him of her beautyThe artist: Vladimir Tretchikoff painted Miss Pon in the early Fifties after a friend told him of her beauty

‘To be honest, I didn’t like that green face,’ she said. ‘I thought it made me look ill.’

She went on to marry commercial traveller Pon Su-Suan and have five children, but they parted 40 years ago and she spent much of her life in poverty, working in a fish-and-chip shop and as a seamstress.

Meanwhile Tretchikoff went from strength to strength. While loathed by art critics, his garish paintings were hugely popular in the drab post-war years.

He made millions selling cheap reproductions of his work direct to the public.

And of all his pictures, it was The Chinese Girl that sold the most.  Even now it is revered as a classic of 1950s kitsch.

While acknowledging he painted an early version of the picture in Cape Town, Tretchikoff claimed it had been destroyed by vandals and maintained until his death in 2006 that his model came from the U.S.

Experts think that he concealed its true origin through misguided fear of being sued for a portion of its earnings.

But Andrew Lamprecht, who is writing a book on the artist, said: ‘It’s clear as soon as you meet Monika that it’s her.’

And Mrs Pon says the artist privately acknowledged that she was the true Chinese Girl.

Reintroduced in the 1990s, the pair struck up a strong friendship. Pictures of the pair show them laughing together.

Mrs Pon said: ‘When we met, he didn’t recognise me so I told him who I was. He said, “Don’t be silly – you don’t look like her”. I replied, “Do you look the same as you did 40 years ago?”

‘Then I told him how we met and little things that only the true Chinese Girl would know, such as how he liked to dance the jitterbug. That was that. Immediately we were laughing again.’

She added: ‘I’m not boasting but it was my portrait that made Tretchikoff rich. The Chinese Girl was the best thing that ever happened to me in my not-so-nice life.’

Mrs Pon was this week reunited with the original version of the Chinese Lady at a new retrospective of Tretchikoff’s works in Cape Town’s National Gallery.

LOTUS BRINGS OUT ITS BIG GUNS IN MOTORCYCLE FORM

                                                        COOL NEWS FROM LOTUS

Back in June, Lotus announced it was getting into the motorcycle business. Or, we should say, Kodewa and the Holzer Group are getting into the motorcycle business, and have acquired the rights to use the Lotus name. One way or another, we’re now receiving word on some of the specs we can expect from the prototype dubbed C-01.

The Lotus motorcycle is being designed by Daniel Simon, the automotive futurist who has penned, among other things, the light-cycles for Tron: Legacy and the livery on the LMP2 racer Kodewa also fields under the Lotus name. So you know it’s going to look pretty awesome, but what will make it go?

According to Visor Down, the C-01 is being tested with a V-twin engine sourced from an undisclosed supplier that produces 170 horsepower in stock trim but has been tuned to produce nearly 200 hp in Lotus trim. A pair of prototypes – one with carbon-fiber bodywork and one without – have already undergone several thousand kilometers of testing, and are said to be handling “very well.”

We’ll have to wait until next month when the talents behind the project are expected to release more information, but for now it’s sounding pretty sweet indeed.

So, the wheel has come full circle and now we have Automobile manufacturers mixing their cooking pot with some 2 wheeled flavor.

I just got this from a mate of mine in Thailand and as I am an avid Motorcycle News reader, thought I would do a little blog on this New machine.

MCN has the world exclusive images of the new Lotus superbike in this week’s issue of the paper along with details of the project and how running prototypes are already out testing.

We have exclusive high resolution images of the new Lotus C-01 superbike as well as exclusive information from those close to the project revealing more details about the 200bhp V-twin.

The C-01 is the first bike to come from a new set-up using the Lotus name under licence.

Lotus announced it was moving into the world of motorcycles in June last year and at the time it promised a 200bhp bike would be on sale in late 2013 or early 2014 but no images of the bike have been seen so far.

MCN managed to get hold of two images from a source close to the project. That source, who didn’t want to be named, was able to hint at a few details of the bike which certainly looks very different to anything else currently on the market. These computer generated images have come directly from the Lotus factory and are not the work of MCN.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

OK, I have been waiting to see a whole exhibition on prototype machines, so hope other manufacturers take a feather out of the Lotus machine and have a go at creating their unique 2 wheeled creation, I am sure BMW could knock something out of the park quickly?

I shall be keeping my eyes open for you tube video’s too as someone always manages to get sneak peeks. So, I watch with baited Breath.

Peace and Grease as always.

A piece of history frozen in time beneath the waves has been documented in amazing photographs.

The SS Thistlegorm  shipwreck, a British munitions ship sunk by a German bomber in 1941 off the coast of Egypt, lays undisturbed.

Now turned into a world-class diving site, the wreckage provides a fascinating insight into the past.

Tropical fish drift past the twisted metal of the war ship’s hull which has lain in the same place for more than 60 years after it was bombed by German planes in the Second World War.

The merchant ship is in the Straits of Gubal in the Northern Red Sea and time has stood still for the supply ship which still has its cargo on board.

Built in Sunderland, the SS Thistlegorm completed three voyages to the USA, Argentina and the West Indies before it’s ill-fated mission to Suez.

From Sharm El Sheikh, tour operators run ships for divers keen to get a look at this window to the past.

By plunging to depths of 30 metres, explorers can reach the shipwreck in the clear water.

From 15 metres, the bow of the 400-ft long ship is clearly visible and divers are guided through the hold and along every inch of the vessel.

The supply ship was carrying trains, trucks and motorbikes, which now lie rusting on the bed of the Red Sea.

Nine of its 41 crew died in the attack but some of the survivors spoke of their escape from the burning ship in 1941.

It’s cargo survived, and now divers can see historic vehicles like Norton 16H motorbikes packed in the hold and an anti-aircraft gun mounted on the stern among the angelfish and tropical wildlife that have made the wreck their home.

Bedford trucks, Universal Carrier armoured vehicles, Norton 16H and BSA motorcycles, Bren guns, cases of ammunition, and 0.303 rifles as well as radio equipment, Wellington boots, aircraft parts, and two LMS Stanier Class 8F steam locomotives were also on board.

An entire truck also sits within the ship with its tyres still intact.

To dive the SS Thistlegorm, people must have diver certification beyond entry level.

The Most Desirable Motorcycles Not Sold In America

Oh, America. Our predilection for fat cruisers and absurd sportbikes ensures that we miss out on some seriously wonderful motorcycles. Sometimes because they’re smaller than our overcompensation would bear, sometimes because we can justify spending over $20,000 on a boat anchor made in Milwaukee, but not half that on an 1980s style superbike fitted with modern components. This is what we’re missing out on; the most desirable motorcycles not sold in America.

So Shamu turned out to be a white elephant; too much money, too much weight and too little substance. Meanwhile, Europe and Japan are getting a refreshed VFR800. A reasonably priced, super-capable sport tourer, this is the one bike that’s equally at home crossing continents, commuting to work or tearing up a twisty back road. The smaller capacity and lighter weight mean it’s both easier and faster to ride and that it won’t chew through expensive tires halfway through your big summer trip. Honda managed to make this bike genuinely comfortable too.

Who would want to ride a big, torquey, inline-four muscle bike made with peerless build quality, high quality components and an engine so smooth it makes 100 mph feel like you’re sitting still. Not us, it turns out, but Honda execs in Japan ensured that their dream bike was green lit, regardless of cost. It even comes in a faired version, turning it into a practical, all-day comfortable muscle tourer. Seriously, the CB1300 is an epic ride.

Many of those same traits are present in the CB400 Super Four — classic styling, double cradle frame, inline-four, quality suspension and brakes — just in a smaller, more accessible package. Japan’s license and insurance tiers make premium small bikes like this one possible; it’s very difficult to access larger machines, so a market exists for nice, smaller bikes. Here, large men on Harleys would just scoff at it and waddle back to their be-tassled exercises in chrome excess. That’s a shame, this thing’s spot on the money for the youth and female markets here.

If Americans actually used bikes for transportation, then the light, accessible, stylish FTR would sell like Big Gulps. It houses a simple, bulletproof 223cc single-cylinder in a flat track-style package that’s ideal for getting around a city in speedy ease.

Just look at this thing. Basically a modernized version of the original GSX-R1100 from the 1980s, the GS1200SS was made because that original bike was actually illegal to sell in Japan, where max capacity used to be capped at 750cc. This bike allowed riders there to re-live the company’s glory days, just with brakes capable of genuine stopping power and suspension enabling the 462 lbs bus to make it around corners. Here punched out to 1,156cc, the air/oil-cooled inline-four makes just 100 bhp and 70 lb.-ft. of torque, but all the original GSX-R tuning parts will fit, so it’s easy to get it making silly amounts of power. Of all the bikes on the list, this is the one that keeps me up at night.

Practical transportation for one person around a city. That’s what motorcycles do better than their four-wheeled counterparts and it’s what the e-Let’s does better than most motorcycles. What you see is what you get: a little electric scooter with a dorky basket out front. But just think how great this thing would be for shopping trips and errands; it’d cost basically zero dollars to run and you’d have no problem fitting groceries, packages or puppies up front. But why would we want to use one of these to go shopping when we could instead take a 5,000 lbs Escalade replete with chrome rims?

If you follow the custom café racer scene, then you’ll notice that approximately 99.9999% of all foreign builds are based on this bike. Why? Shorn of its…humble bodywork, that air-cooled single is a real looker and the steel tube frame enables easy customization. You can bob it, you can chop it, you can café it or even street track it; basically any modification that involves pipe wrap, gum grips and flat black paint. As a bonus, it already comes with the round headlight, stock. But why would Americans want an affordable, good-looking, classic-style bike? I mean, it only has a single ‘R’ in it’s entire name!

Elvis would of been 79 Today !

Connie Tullos loves to tell stories. Especially the one about Elvis and his Mama the day they came to the Tupelo Hardware Co. to buy him a birthday present. He was born Jan. 8, 1935.
Speaking in full Mississippi drawl, her eyes as bright as a teenage fan of Justin Bieber’s, the 60ish Tullos said the King, still an uncrowned commoner in those days, wanted a 22-caliber rifle for his 11th birthday.

Gladys Presley said no.
Some folks say he put up a fuss.
Not Tullos, who’s vice president of the local Elvis Presley Fan Club and a part-time employee at Tupelo Hardware.
“We say that Elvis turned to Gladys, and said, ‘That’s OK, Mama. It’s fine.’ ”
Instead, Gladys Presley bought her son a guitar. It cost $7.90, according to the bronze plaque outside the store, which is not far from an oversized fake wooden guitar that’s tilted so fans can take their pictures as if they’re playing it.
Tullos leaned over the counter, near guitar-shaped cast-iron pans, Elvis books, pencils, T-shirts and other souvenirs, and pointed to an X on the Tupelo Hardware Co.’s wooden floor. Once white, the tape X is scruffy gray from hundreds of shoe soles that have touched it.
The spot is where Elvis and his mother might have stood, she said, beaming, as those of us listening tapped our toes on the tape.

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry stood in the same spot, both buying guitars at Tupelo Hardware. Tullos said Prince Albert of Monaco also stopped by on his Elvis pilgrimage.
Memphis may be the public mecca for Elvis lore, but folks 100 miles southeast of Presley’s 17,555-square-foot Graceland insist fans should begin their pilgrimages where the King did. That’s in Tupelo, a town of about 35,500 in northwest Mississippi.
This one-time railroad hub is a four-time winner of the All-American City Award.
And of course, it’s the birthplace of Elvis Presley.
Elvis’ father, Vernon, borrowed $180, and with the help of his father and brother, built a two-room shotgun cottage in 1934.
On Jan. 8, 1935, Gladys gave birth there to two sons: Elvis Aaron and his twin, Jessie Garon, who never took a breath and was buried in an unmarked grave in Priceville Cemetery.
The Presleys lived in the 450-square home until Elvis was 3, then lived elsewhere in Tupelo until they resettled in Memphis when he was 13.
“Gladys was the strength of the family,” Dick Guyton, director of the Elvis Presley Foundation, said as he stood under the bare light bulb hanging from the ceiling in the bedroom/living room of the house.
“She worked in a garment factory. Vernon worked as a truck driver and did odd jobs when he could.”
The house is still in its original location and is the centerpiece of Elvis’ Birthplace, a 15-acre park funded initially by a concert Elvis gave in 1957 in his hometown.

About 80,000 fans visit each year, about 50,000 of whom pay to go inside the house, church and museum, Guyton said — about 10% the number who go to Graceland. “Most come only on day trips,” he said, which does not please him and others in Tupelo.
