Another build, The WILD CAT !

Here we are with a small build for a chap that is out there in Arizona, he is the CEO of the Phoenix Zoo and dropped this old chopper down to see if I could try and make a Cafe Racer for him.

I wanted to try and come up with a name for the bike and he actually came up with Wild cat and I thinks thats going to be a fare representation of this little caged animal and will soon be tearing up the tarmac in that part of AZ.

Sure, as I know this could be turned into something fun yet classic and in not too much of a time, although, there is more than meets the eye here, as he bought this bike like it is and it has not run in god knows how many moons, but- we enjoy a challenge here and a challenge we shall have.

The bike looks great from 20 feet away but the closer you get you will see that all the chrome has pitted and the wiring is rotting away, the bike has no seat and has Shorty rear shocks with 10 inch over front forks, a poor mans chopper back in the day but Bert wants this as a Cafe Racer, so here goes…..

The bike is pretty much all there, just wrong proportions and some need of cleaning or replacing parts that have seen better days, and being that this is from a hot part of the country, there will be plenty dried out that’s for certain.

So the transformation begins and we are on our way to making somebody happy with their new machine very shortly.

I am now taking this apart to see what we have to deal with and then I can start to change the look of this bike and share it with you lot on here, as many of you ask about what we do here and you can see how this turns out.

The rear wheel is coming out and am going to have original Borranis and powder coat them Red, then polish the hubs and re-lace and then new tires, but also I am fitting new chain and sprockets.

The front forks are 10 inch longer than stock, more than enough to give you a nose bleed at that altitude, so they got to come off and I shall fit some stock forks but lower the front end an inch into the triple tree’s.

The Red is striking when you have a darker color against it, and this really will be a head turner that’s for sure.

But first I need to get the rims built and fitted right, and I drilled the rear brake hub with my Signature racing look and she came out great.

The front wheel gets a good treatment of new stainless spokes and polished hubs with the Spitfire tires to have the classic tread pattern for this machine.

The forks have now been lowered and this is bang on at the front, but- the rear shocks are too short, so will fit longer ones as I get a long with this Cafe Racer Machine. Also the front Rotor was removed and cleaned up then polished just to make everything look more uniform.

The bike came here with no seat at all, and lucky for me, I had an original old seat base , so I took the old foam off it, powder coated the seat base to a high gloss black, then new foam and re-upholstered with Diamond stitching and it looks great now and functions very well indeed.

The tank was up next and I would give it the good old knee insert treatment and then figure I would have Black and Red checkers to match the rims on this machine.

Wildcat was hand lettered with an air brush and this looks pretty cool now that it has the clear coating on the body work as all the detail stands out.

The rest of the body work got the same treatment and then it was the careful task of fitting this stuff to the machine and not damaging the paint.

This has turned out pretty darn cool, I got Dakota to Bob the front fender to give it a more aggressive look and then after some rewiring f the old harness, everything seems to function well.

Just some buffing and polishing and this will be as much as needs doing to the bike, but had to do a lot of electrical it was a nightmare.

This then had New chrome Diamond turn signals wired and tested and also we bobbed the rear fender and fitted out Beeza light and all works well.

OK, I thought as its a Saturday Morning I would take a few more photos of the WILD CAT and then you can have an overall look at this beast for your own eyes to savor and hopefully you will like the way the bike has turned out?

The tank turned out well and I like the look of the whole bike as this is my signature styled machine and it sits very well.

The bike has all new tires and the rims were Aluminum Borrani’s but thought I would powder coat them red and they are a good combination and offsets the bike well.

The bike has new rear shocks and are 14.5 center to center, that way it gives the rear end that higher stance, bit like a sprinter on the starting blocks.

The gas tank has been hammered and painted and the inside sealed, it also has brand new Genuine HONDA Chrome gas cap and lock, and a brand New genuine HONDA Petcock too.

This bike has many new parts on it and I am sure the owner will be over the moon as he opens up the computer and see’s his bike on the blog.

I thought I would put a few more photos on here as many of you email me to ask how certain parts look, and this is the best way of showing them to you.

This has been a fun creation and I look forward to photo of it when the owner takes it back to Arizona and has them great background area’s to show the state he is in.

IRWINDALE DRAGS LAST NIGHT

 photo 003_zps9f37dfd4.jpg

Thursday run what ya brung was a fun evening to be had that’s for certain, I was amazed at how many people turned up for the event, we drove in at about 7pm and there were cars all over the place getting into the staging lanes.

 photo 012_zpsf5e68e13.jpg

Once we parked, it is an easy walk to the track and to be honest- for spectators, this is a great vantage point to see racing from the whole length of the 1/8th mile.

 photo 011_zps3cac6905.jpg

There was so may entrants is was great to see so many different rides out there and the temperature was near on perfect for Racing.
 photo 013_zpsfb2a7cbb.jpg

We walked the staging lanes and it was more packed than Superman in a kids costume.

 photo 016_zpscc610613.jpg

It was funny to hear people brown nosing their competitors, or hearing another bloke telling everyone how great his ride was and what it can do etc.

 photo 015_zps5b7629aa.jpg

I personally love the 50’s and 60’s era of the drags the Gasser wars are the best as these are just Bricks in shape but haul so much arse!!!

 photo 017_zpse14af024.jpg

The track was actually prepped for a change and only one issue all night , that’s quite rare.

 photo 006_zpse8716bbd.jpg

As they track now has advertising banners, the roar of the motors sound even louder as the sounds bounce off the walls.

 photo 004_zps3cc70c94.jpg

Plenty to see at the race and am glad that we went as it was fast and quite furious at times.

 photo 010_zps6644f3ad.jpg

This 55 was tough and is a regular at the track and is a dialed in machine. Reminds me of my old one I had back in the UK in 1996.

 photo 009_zps1fcb4145.jpg

Many different models are in the staging lanes and it was great to be able to stroll up and have a look at what they were running etc.

 photo 005_zpsd4c9cd41.jpg

This ride blew everyone’s mind, it is a 4 second 1/8th miler so he had to Slow down to 5’s here as the track runs out real quick, but boy was it FAST !!!

 photo 002_zps10848f2f.jpg

Constant 6 seconds this machine and the old fella that drove it was grinning all the way.

 photo 001_zps9e33efed.jpg

This was a tight ride and the thing just dug in and rode hard all the way down the track.

 photo 007_zps72e15574.jpg

Yep- running the devils time up here is a wee bit daunting for me.

 photo 043_zpsa82a9e02.jpg

This fella ran his quad, high 8’s and low 9’s but he was having fun that’s for sure.

 photo 023_zps312a4c0d.jpg

Everyone’s delight was watching the local ice cream van roar up the strip, whilst playing his music and the crowd hollered hard, he took the race easily too.

 photo 025_zps36e16a65.jpg

And the winner gets an Ice Cream !!!!

 photo 019_zps8f40b5f0.jpg

Bikes ran too and at night I would find it a little bit unnerving but I love Motorcycles so much the fear for them goes away, this takes a lot of heart and determination for motorcycles as there is a bad bump on the right side of the track and if you get that lane, you will be sure to bang your chin on the tank Hard when you hit that point.

My little camera is not good at night but I thought I would add some videos for you to watch that I took.

It is always good to come and attend a local track as they need your support to keep people drag racing off the street.

We had a super night and am glad that I took my camera with me to try and share some of the nights events.

If you are ever in Southern California, try and check out Irwindale as it has a Dragstrip and Speedway circuit.

Have a Great weekend everyone.

More things happening at C.C.R.

Hey Gang

Well, I have been doing a lot of changing around at the shop as of late, last year I had a few idea’s that i thought I would try one day and these will be coming to fruition very soon, and its to help you lot anyway and that’s a bonus right?

I am trying to cater for many styles of cafe racers as well as Brats and all sorts of makes too, I shall be hopefully maing the New 4 into 2 exhausts next month and thats another cool part for people to check out.

Also there will be another set of exhausts I hope to be making for the GS1000 Suzuki and the KZ1000, these will be 4 into 1 systems that will be like my Yoshimura style.

Also I am going to be making some really nice 4 into 1 systems for the CB750 in SOHC and DOHC in stainless steel !!!!

There will be new clothing as well as new helmets etc.

I have also been asked about maybe some CBX 1000 Exhausts and maybe some CB350 exhausts too, so, stay tuned on that one.

But I am also in the design stage for New Megaphones for the Triumph Thruxton too.

Always plenty to do, to make, to design and to fit here at C.C.R.

I am also going to be selling some rather unique oil tanks too and some new light weight battery’s for your ride, that way you can hide everything under the seat base.

So keep looking back at this website, as things are changing for the better. We are your ONE STOP SHOP !

NEW STUFF ARRIVING ALL THE TIME.

Hey Gang

Well, here at C.C.R. westrive to continue to improve, I have ventured into other realms of our hobby and I shall be offering new products as we go along this for ever twistie road.

Keep checking back as we will be adding all the time, if you look to the right , you will see new products that I have made or have offered, and that changes everytime I introduce a part.

I shall be offering New exhaust systems too, some for the CB750 and some for the GS1000 as well as CBX and some for the Triumph Thruxton too.

I am also going to be selling new Custom made Oil tanks that have that race look and you can leave your side covers off to show the cool detailing of the oil tank, there will be round, pill shape and flat styles, so stay tuned on this.

Next up will be other machined parts like oil filter housings, triple tree’s and clip ons.

I am also looking at another front brake set up to swap out and hopefully supply a full video, explaining how we do this swap, that way it is really easy for you to do the same thing on your mean machine.

We do have a NEW website coming out this year with many new features and I know you will enjoy that, it will be very interactive and I am sure you will find it so much easier to navigate around etc.

Right now I am concentrating on a few Customers builds, but also I shall be having MY own CAFE RACER on display at STURGIS this year, if you can make it to the Buffalo Chip you can see my bike and 29 other cool Cafe Racer builders and their rides at this one off show that’s bound to take some of your breathe away.

With Gas prices climbing up faster than an ill fitting pair of underwear, many people are turning to the 2 wheeled variety and I have seen a sharp spike in the interest to make their ride ” A little more cooler” and I am glad to say that all my competitors are saying the same thing.

There are a lot of cool shops out there making some unbelievable rides of which some-are simply stunning- and I am happy that this industry is getting very popular and friendlier.

Motorcycling should be fun and friendly, I have made so many friends all over the world and, when I meet them its great to hear what they are building and, what their trends are in that part of the globe. I have been doing this many years and will continue to do so.

So, if you are reading this, then you are genuinely interested in what I do and I thank you for that, it takes a lot of time and effort to keep the website up to speed, answer phones , pack orders, build bikes and R&D new parts, but I love it and I thank you for all your purchases.

Stick with me and I will look after you, I am going to be stepping it up in many area’s soon from leather jackets-helmets and Apparel, to Motorcycle parts, DVDS and some charity rides.

Have fun with what you do and I cant wait to see what you have created, so always send us photos of the bikes you are building as we like to pass this on to everyone else that reads this.

I am also on Facebook under Steve Carpy carpenter or Carpys Cafe as well as twitter under 750racer and lastly i am even doing the instagram too under 59 club.

Now, get back in the shed and start wrenching!!!!!!

Vintage Drag Bikes, gotta love them !

If any of you are like me, then you will like this Blog that I have put together, it is hard to explain, but I have always had a fascination for the drags, even as a kid, I would sneak out the house on a Saturday or Sunday morning, take my old motorcycle helmet and hitch hike to Snetterton race track to either watch Clubman racing, or watch the Drags.

It must be something to do with the Noise, the smell of burning rubber, the sheer speed and ferocity of these 2 wheeled machines.

The Vintage stuff still turns my dial every time, as that was a handful to control, don’t get me wrong , the new bikes are so fast but older stuff usually breaks down or will throw you off if it has a mind to.

Just you and the machine, against another crazy person with as much ambition as you, fight it out over 300 yards to see who is the fastest,.

Be it old or new I dig it all but Nostalgia drags are now very far and few between, Bring them back as it is such a cool thing to see, the bikes are simply eye candy.

Look at that 9.64 on the 1/4 in 1964 Thats MAD!!!!!

I cant get enugh of these cool rides.
Exhilarating just to watch, let alone ride.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I have doing this as these really do turn my dial.

Make sure you get out to an 1/8th or 1/4 mile sanctioned event, its a blast and the kids will dig it for noise and smell alone.
This is my era but always wanted to have a go and never got the opportunity.
Look at these steeds, all set to pull your neck off!!!
This is all me, I would love to have ridden this.
Triple motors just blow me away, every time.
Clean machine and sleek as hell.
Great to see when either husband and wife or girlfriend and boyfriend hang out together.
Awesome CBX
This is insane, laying down with all this behind you!!!!!
Yes please, I would take this right now.
Check out the guys old Stadium Fiberglass helmet and bubble visor.
This would be awesome hanging in my workshop.
Into it, full throttle and hanging on for life!!!!
Thanks for stopping by and checking out these crazy Vintage shots, I really dig all the Nostalgia rides and maybe one day will get to ride one.

MTC hopped up Clutch- Awesome work.

A lot of work goes into changing the bike, swing arm, ignition, front end, tires etc are just some of the stuff that’s got to happen .

This all takes time, money, sweat and patience.

Body work on and now this really is taking shape.

This is all fitted, Dakota’s pop’s ” Aaron Pine” Did the cool cut-a-way- so allow for easier access if needed.

That swing arm is longer than the line at Pinks Hot Dogs in Hollywood.

Here she is all ready for Kota to ring its frigging neck out !!!!

The Muzzy came out well, the Sidewinder style looks sharp and does the job!

Kota getting ready for his FIRST test run of the bike, sat in the staging lanes, thinking of how cool it will be to see his Boss there on Sunday !

That’s a Fat rear end mate !

That’s the crew chief in the background , Kota’s Grandfather ” BoB”

Into it, launched, tire gripping and getting a good way to a great start, just don’t spin that tire!!!!
