Triumph Bonneville 2014 T100 FOR SALE $6500

Up for sale is my Girls Triumph Bonneville T100 Special, this bike is a turn key model and ready to have fun on the tarmac this summer, cleaner than a cats arse and a lot of fun to ride, this twinline is a great all round Motorcycle that will give you many miles of smiles that’s for certain.

You are looking at a very well looked after and maintained Triumph Bonneville, this is Jennifer’s personal bike and I have made sure this has always been in great condition, fires right up and has a velvet tone that exits from my Own Stainless Steel Dunstall style megaphones that I hand made.

If you are looking for a well loved and treated Motorcycle, hard to beat this one, never thrashed, over revved or misused, this T100 runs like a well oiled Swiss Watch and it seems to be quite the head turner where ever it travels too.

This Bonneville has been regularly serviced and Recently had New Fuel Pump and New Battery installed at Triumph, the bike has always been garaged and not left to the elements that many are, so a great opportunity to have a low milage un abused Motorcycle that will not let you down.

This Motorcycle has had some upgrades, like Led Brake lights, Stainless Exhaust System, BC Handlebars, Custom Grips, headlight Visor,Pedestrian front fender License plate, Polished Front fork brace to give great stability. And of course engine side covers have been triple chromed and polished to show quality.

You will also notice that this bike has a set of Saddle bags attached, these are removable but so handy and they have been used many times on our travels, a god send to fit jackets, gloves and tools etc for long trips, I Used Triumph brackets for the bags and then fitted Black ABS Luggage bags to them. I was going to paint them to match the tank, but- they were so useful, we could never take them off lol.

The Triumph also has LED turn signals that get you noticed, a New Battery Just added too, a very clean bike that anyone would love to own and ride of course, the bike has been well looked after and will be missed when she is gone.

Comfortable Custom Metalflake grips give this machine that 1960’s feel and the exhaust tone is like no other Triumph out there, handmade by me and tuned to run to them, this bike is great on gas too.

Weekend is here but its going to be damn Hot In Southern California

I know, I know- I should not complain about the weather, but- I left the shores of Blighty back in 1997, this weekend it will be in the 90’s and I am lucky that I now have the Barn to work in, albeit no A/C.  Its surprising how much you can get done when there is a big ball of fire trying to make you evaporate.

Today I shall be packing up quite a few New exhaust systems, with more on the way, busy time of the year for me as people are wrenching on their machines and of course, with warmer temperatures, then riding season is at its most fruitful, I too love riding early in the morning as the warmth of the Sun begins to make the tarmac steam and for me, there is nothing better to clear your head than a crisp morning.

But parts have to be re-stocked and I am trying to get the New Place in some sort of order, so I can pick and pack my parts a little easier and then ship right out to my Customers, I am lucky as the Main Post Office is just down the road, so that means I can take them directly to the Loading dock to scan and load the packages and boxes onto the truck that is going out to deliver.

I am coming up with a few different parts too and this all takes time, but I am enjoying what I do and when you work from your own Workshop with no landlord hassling you, a lot of stress simply disappears.

My Triumph Scrambler

Its always fun using your own machine when you need to pop out for some parts or visit a customer etc and today was a fun one for me, as I thought that I would take the Scrambler out for a little jaunt.

I had to pick a few pieces of hardware up and pop into the Chrome Platers, traffic seemed as busy as ever and it made sense to throw my leg over my 2016 Triumph Scrambler and get around to the places I needed to a whole lot faster than if I took my Van.

I love all motorcycles and today as I have my Scrambler and had recently fitted an Ammo Box to the side of the rig, well I wanted to make use of such an item and it sure got its work cut out today.

These Trumpys are a pretty Tall Motorcycle but, as I am 5″11 I can tippy toe it at a stop light, it is a really well made machine and has tons of what I call linear power and I feel pretty safe on this iron steed, compared to my Thruxton.

I removed the stock seat in favor of a more Custom look shorter version that has a rear luggage rack attached, eventually I hope to find a Vintage Miltary Ammo style box that will secure to it and give me more loading space as thats always a bonus to have, especially on long trips.

She sits high and I like it that way, I now get to see where I am going and can take in some of the Scenery, where as the Thruxton was fun, but all I ever saw was 6000 revs on the Tach , as I was always laying over the tank as I had clip on’s fitted.

I added my Own style Fog light, One- because it gives it a more rigged look, Two- I like the European styling of a Fog light, and three- This will be used on poor visabilty , ie in Fog or at night in the rain etc, be Seen- be Safe is my Philosophy.

I will eventually paint the Ammo Box in the same Matte Blue of the bikes livery and then add Dakota’s unit Id numbers as he is in Assault Craft Unit 4 in the NAVY.

Above, I do not like these stock Plastic turn signals, so I think I shall change the whole headlight assembly eventually, as well as the Black Fork ears and maybe later the gauges too.

Also added an old Vintage Copper and Brass Fire extinguisher, just for those I need some help moments and I dig it to be honest as I have had that extinguisher in my shops for years, it may not be your cup of Tea, but this really is a fun motorcycle for me and will be travelling many many miles to see some of the great areas of the states like the National Parks etc.

I will also be taking off the rear Fender and fit a smaller LED Tail light under the seat, just to tidy things up and of course I shall have a set of reverse Cone megaphones onto the Exhaust at a later date as its way too quiet at present.

I love the look and style of My fog lamp and have sold many of these over the years and now it gets dark early its good to run this when visibility is bad and it gets me noticed for sure.

I shall be removing stock parts and making my own to add to this bike and look forward to taking some cool trips on this and Jennifer on her Bonneville, its going to be a blast.

Right now I have to go to the post office to drop off some Christmas cards, so what better way than to take my own steed and go for a ride?

TON UP GARAGE HOT ROD TRIUMPH – Awesome Machine –

Daniel and Pedro are the names behind Ton-Up Garage, one of Portugal’s leading custom bike builders, two guys who consider themselves total petrolheads, loving anything with an engine. Being able to draw influences from all aspects of motoring allowed Daniel and Pedro to come up with the ‘Hot-Rod’, a truly fantastic custom Triumph Bonneville.

A Classic Twin finding it’s influences in the “crazy years between the 30s and 50s, the golden era off Hot Rodding”. A refreshing custom born into a scene which could be described as a little stagnant – though no sports bike, this air cooled Triumph embodies a need for speed, fast acceleration and hold on tight thrill seeking.

The Hot Rod’s side-on profile is something to behold, low and beautifully sculpted. It’s clear the frame has been shortened and looped, tightening up the Bonneville’s lines. The air/battery box has been removed, as have any redundant brackets, leaving behind the desired exposed frame – now finished in silver, visually lightening this hot rodded Triumph Twin.

Many agree that the early carb model Hinckley Triumph Twin is the pick of the bunch, technically simple and tuneable with the most basic of tools. That simplicity allowed for the swopping of the tank for a much lower and more streamline custom item, which not just hugs the cam cover of the 865cc engine, but envelops it – a tank finished in a classic paint scheme, described as creating a sensation of movement.

The custom seat cowl is upholstered in black leather and grey trim, and continues the lines to the rear of the Triumph, enveloping the new frame loop before culminating in a small stop and tail light. Under which is the new custom made battery box containing a lithium battery, and the Twins minimal electrical system, which now includes a RFID keyless ignition system.

Usually the unsightly rectifier can be found strapped to the Triumph Twins bottom yoke, on display like some sort of homage to half arsed design. Many relocate the rectifier to the frame rail where it can stay cool, but isn’t as unsightly – but here on the Hot Rod the unit has been upgraded and moved to under the seat cowl, protected from what the 18” rear wheel, wrapped in Firestone Deluxe Champions throws up by a custom made mudguard/numberplate holder suspended millimetres off the rear tire.

At the front is a matching 18” wheel, again wrapped in retro Firestone rubber, with the dust being kept off the classic bottom mounted 5¾” headlight, and out of the riders face by a custom bobbed mudguard. Up top is a Motogadget Tiny speedo, telling the rider all he need know at speed, which leads us on to the handlebars, a specific choice as Daniel and Pedro dint want “to use the most common models…”These were fitted with custom CnC’d grips, capped with Motogadget M-Blaze indicators.

Switches on this build have been kept to a minimum, with the stock items being replaced by micro switches, with a big red start button being fed through the steering stem, finishing the controls are a set of retro cable brake and clutch levers, with the brake lever operating the hydraulic system hidden under the tank.

The rear brake also operates differently, rather than being fed under and along the swing-arm, its being fed through the swing-arms hollow spindle bolts, located just forward of the new rear sets and serrated foot-pegs, and out the other side and down to the rear brake calliper. “We’ve tried to have a lot of technical details different from previous models, we’ve built and have the bike as clean as possible. These are new challenges we give to ourselves to go further on the builds we do”.

The Air-Cooled 865cc carb fed engine hasn’t missed out, being fitted with a classical styled stainless steel exhausts system and velocity stacks painted white to match the tank and seat cowl. The stock sprocket cover has thankfully been replaced by a custom item featuring a cut-out Ton Up logo. A much needed suspension upgrade finishes the Hot rod off, being fitted with a set of Öhlins shocks and springs.

Just a chin wag whilst on my Motorcycle.

 

Seeing as it is now Feb 1st, I thought that I would try and start a little more blogging as I go along, not sure how they will come out but may be entertaining for you.

Trying some different media’s here as everybody seems to use their phone to talk, take photos and now live chat at times, so- to try these things out I have used my I-phone but its not the best- as my gyroscope is out of wack so sometimes the camera will jump, soon to get a new phone though.

This was about a month ago, may not be the best clarity on you tube but something to watch, as I  fitted New megaphones to the Triumph Scrambler and she sure did sound throaty when I took it out for a little spin.

A great sounding bike now it breathes and I am contemplating purchasing a Scrambler for my own use as they are bags of fun to ride.

 

TON-UP GARAGE TRIUMPH HOT ROD

 

Ton-Up Garage is a Portuguese garage that has produced some of the most aesthetically well-designed customs you’ll find anywhere. Proprietors Daniel and Pedro are a friendly pair with a taste for adventure, and a deep love of classic Californian Hot Rod culture.

This Triumph was built by the pair as a hat tip to the cars and motorcycles that cruised Venice Beach in the ’50s and ’60s – right down to the Firestone Champion Deluxe tires. The build started as a stock Bonneville – the earlier carburetor version that pre-dates the more modern EFI-equipped bike. Custom bike builders often prefer the carburetor model because tuning is simpler – and it lacks the large in-tank fuel pump that makes modifying or swapping out the fuel tank exceedingly difficult.

The build began with a partial tear down and the rear frame loop was cropped, the center section was then cleaned up by removing the battery and airbox, with the battery and electronics moving to a discrete under seat box.

A new fuel tank was built with a cut out section for the cam cover, and a new seat was fabricated in-house and finished with black leather upholstery. Front and rear fenders aren’t optional in Europe, so Ton-Up fabricated a pair of aluminium units that fit the design well and don’t detract from the overall look.

A bespoke exhaust with bespoke mufflers was fitted, as well as matching white velocity stacks with carburetors re-jetted to match. A Motogadget Tiny speedo has been installed above the 5 3/4” headlight, and Motogadget M-Blaze indicators were fitted in keeping with the minimalist theme.

To improve handling, a pair of Öhlins shocks were bolted on to the rear, and the original fork springs were replaced with a matching set from Öhlins – an addition that makes a big difference to the way the Bonneville behaves.

ICON 1000 – 2014 THRUXTON

Well, today i wanted to show you how to change the look of your Trumpy and this Icon 1000 is a really tough looking bike, I am in awe of its toughness and would love to maybe build something like that at some point.

It was Wes White’s late sixties Triumph TR6C featured on the website Chop Cult in 2009, which started my interest in the Desert Sled. A year later the Hammarhead Jack Pine was revealed to the world on BikesExif. It was these two Triumph Scramblers, one old for style, and one new for practicality, which inspired me to build.

That was six years ago!, and I believe its time to move on!. Once again I’m visiting motorcycle museums for ‘vintage style’, and keeping an eye on the web and custom motorcycle shows for ‘inspiration’.

I am also planning a workshop at my home in Dorset. It will be in this workshop, and with the help of local craftsmen and bike builders, I hope build another custom Hinckley Triumph… or perhaps just make a bloody mess of a good bike!, regardless, this time, it wont be a Scrambler!

What may influence this next builds is this 2014 Thruxton, named the “Three Martini Lunch”, a collaboration by Icon 1000 and Triumph North America, a build  “fuelled with shop-floor gin drinks and paint fumes”. Kurt Walter the creative designer at Icon 1000, wanted a custom Triumph that would appeal to ICON core market, maintaining the road-race styling and component cues of the ICON 1000 bikes.

As usual at Bonnefication we start with the frame, clearly undergoing a huge amount of reconfiguring – forget frame loops!, this Thruxton has lost it’s entire rear-end. Replaced by a custom mono- subframe, supporting the rider, as well as a one-off Nitron mono-shock setup.

Frame modifications continue under the Thruxton, with the removal of much of the detachable cradles, exposing the engine and giving this Triumph a Ducati vibe – compounded by the fitting of a modified Ducati MH900E fairing from Aristech, painted in is General Motors Verdoro Green, and fitted with a headlight found on logging trucks…. now thats a mongrel of a fairing!

The classic Triumph styling is long gone, what may raise a few eyebrows is the choice of tank, meant for a Yamaha FZ600 – again heavily modified, not only to fit the Hinckley frame, but also to allow room for the re-routed, and heat shielded exhaust system, now running over the engine and under the Aristech Harley tail section.

Kurt wanted to fit the heavily shouldered 16” rear wheel from a Kawasaki KZ1000 to both front and back of the Thruxton, made possible by welding up the cush-drive on the wheel destined for the front.

The fitting of the wider wheel, now shod in vintage Avon tires, meant that it no longer fitted the stock forks. To overcome this, the stock forks were replaced with those from a Harley Wide Glide, and involved cutting bits out of that Ducati MH900E fairing.

What ever your thoughts on the  “Three Martini Lunch”,  you can’t deny it’s fascinating!, perhaps like the Hammarhead Jack Pine, it may be a build which drives the custom Triumph scene in a new and exciting direction…. lets hope so.

175 MPH ON A PUSHROD 650 TWIN WITH 40-YEAR-OLD PARTS

My friend Dan’s pickup truck rattled to a stop near a dusty bungalow in Shadow Hills, a neighborhood on the north side of Los Angeles, tucked up under the 210 freeway, with an inexplicably rural/small-town vibe. The door of the two-car garage was open. Maybe that was part of why it didn’t feel like L.A. to me. Whoever lived here wasn’t afraid of prying eyes seeing a garage full of tools and bikes.

“This is Alp,” Dan said.

Alp shook my hand with less than total enthusiasm. I wasn’t sure whether he was shy or already worried that another journalist was probably going to get the technical details wrong. But he seemed to grudgingly accept that when your Triumph 650 goes 175 miles an hour — unfaired — strangers will show up, wanting to talk.

Alp Sungurtekin is 42 but doesn’t look it. He grew up in Turkey and Germany and studied industrial design in Istanbul, where he operated a tattoo studio. He moved to the United States in 2002 and got a job working for a naval architect.

That might not seem like a good prelude to building motorcycles, but the R&D department where he worked had a full fabrication workshop, where he taught himself how to make the things he designed. With new skills in hand, he began building and racing Triumphs at Southern California Timing Association events.

The prevailing dress and facial hair codes at SCTA events run somewhere on a spectrum between “Duck Dynasty” and ZZ Top. A lot of those old guys are running cars and bikes they’ve been developing for decades, since they were new. Only now they’re running them in vintage classes.

So even if Alp hadn’t showed up with a leggy fashion model as his crew chief, people probably would’ve noticed the new “furriner.” They may also have noticed that he seemed to have built the fastest stock-framed Triumph Thunderbird in history.

He became an SCTA tech inspector, which was a good way to see what everyone else had already tried. Over the years — and after making many, many land speed runs trying idea after idea — he formed his own notions of what a true land speed racing motorcycle should be. That tiny, tiny motorcycle was up on a work stand in the garage as I interviewed him.

“This is an A-PF 650-class machine,” he said. “A means special construction, P means pushrod, and F means fuel. It’s a top fuel motor, running on 90 to 100 percent nitromethane.”

“Special construction” means it’s not a factory frame. Alp designed and fabricated the chassis himself, from chromoly tubing. It looks a bit like a vintage drag bike; too short, too light, and too lacking in rear suspension to fit in as a land speed racer. The rear hard-tail loop is as short as possible, with a member that actually penetrates the gearbox, which keeps the final drive short, too.

It’s a pre-unit motor, but part of his design concept was to join the cases and gearbox with a pair of massive aluminum plates. That allows the combined motor and tranny to be used as a stressed member in an otherwise-slight main loop. The motor’s actually hanging off that spine, more like a modern bike than a classic Triumph.

The fork legs are NOS Ceriani items from the 1970s (he thought, maybe from one of the Aermacchi/Harley-Davidson dirt bikes) with Tomaselli clip-ons and Pingel controls. Rear axle plates are adjustable for both height and wheelbase. The RC Component wheel is shod with a Goodyear drag slick.

The motor’s built up on Thunder Engineering pattern cases. The cylinder block is a 750 cc pattern from Triples Rule, sleeved back down to 650 cc with special sleeves from Northwest Sleeve. The head began life as a 1964 alloy Triumph item, fed by 1 3/8-inch Amals.

The carbs aren’t the largest ones available, but the jets needed for nitro are huge. Basically, if you could see into the ports when a bike like this is running, you’d see big droplets, not finely atomized fuel. Since nitro also tends to quickly dissolve into engine oil, Alp’s happy that Klotz is a sponsor; he changes the oil after every run.

Land speed racers are generally pretty open about stuff you can see. They’re more evasive when discussing inner workings: porting, cams, mag timing…

“It’s not a secret,” Alp told me when I asked questions about those things, “but I don’t talk about it.”

Hmm…

He allowed that the pistons were nothing special: Hepolite items with some hand-shaping. Valves were 1.66-inch Kibblewhites. “Standard oversized Bonneville valves. They’re, like, $28 a piece,” he said. A belt primary drives what he says is a stock tranny.

Nitro burns slowly, so it doesn’t need to spin over 7,400 rpm. You can’t really run a top fuel motor on a dyno, but Alp’s has to be making at least 150 horsepower.

He had planned to run it at Bonneville, but the salt was lousy all last year. So he broke it in at the Mojave Mile, on an airport runway, where it obliterated the SCTA record by 25 mph.

“People who are 50, 60 years old have been doing this for years, and they move the record up one or two miles an hour,” he told me. “You can imagine that I show up, with my funny accent…” His voice trailed off, but then he added, “There was this one guy, a BSA racer, with a streamliner. He made a post listing about 10 things that are wrong with my bike: the bore/stroke ratio, the angle of the inlet tracts… I told him, ‘Can you imagine if I did it right?’”

Experts said his rigid frame would have traction problems at El Mirage, because it’s a dry lake, but it went even faster there: 175.625 mph. Fast enough to set the record in the 1000 cc class too, if he cared to enter it.

To put this in perspective, a couple of years ago, Shunji Yokokawa set an official record for the fastest production 600 cc motorcycle. That’s one of Honda’s top R&D engineers, on a Honda CBR600RR. He went 170.828. Alp went faster than that, on a motorcycle with a cylinder head — among other components — older than he is.

This video makes record-setting look easy, although the reason so many of those SCTA racers are literally grizzled veterans is that it usually takes a long time to master this seemingly simple discipline.

Key sponsors, like Lowbrow Customs, help to defray his costs and, as word of his record-breaking spreads, Alp pretty much always has a customer project or two in the garage, as well. So although he still does a bit of custom design work outside the motorcycle world, most of his time’s spent building customer bikes or working on his own projects.

For his next trick, Alp wants to break into the 200 Club on a partial streamliner powered by one of his 650 cc pushrod twins. That would make him the first guy ever to go that fast on a “sit-on” motorcycle (as opposed to a full streamliner). He’s already sketched out the bodywork, which will be all aluminum he plans to hand-form himself.

Southern California Motorcycles Spring Open House Show! SATURDAY 2nd APRIL

Well, Only a few days away and the BIG event to be held at North America’s biggest Triumph Motorcycle dealer will soon be upon us.

We shall be having a small Booth there,, showing parts and Apparel from our shop and be great to see you in Person. Maybe have some headlights, Seats and other cool parts for your british iron. So we sure hope that you will ride over to this Open house and come enjoy this fun Saturday with more Triumphs than you will know what to do with.

Southern California Motorcycles invites riders and enthusiasts of all ages, as well as their family and friends, to join us for our annual Spring Open House. The event will take place on Saturday, April 2nd from 10am to 5pm at our dealership located at 515 W. Lambert Rd. in Brea, CA. Attendees can enjoy free food and drinks, live music, and the chance to win prizes from free raffles and a Best Bike contest. Vendors will be displaying the latest and greatest in motorcycles and more. We will have a bikini bike wash, photo booth, and tons of great deals throughout our showrooms. Our Service department is now taking appointments for an exclusive offer for onsite suspension setup. For only $40, riders can have their suspension set up (an $80 savings) in about twenty minutes. We will have over 20 motorcycles ready for demo rides from all our brands; sign-ups are on a first-come first-serve basis.

We shall be there with a few of our own Motorcycles too, so make sure you can come by and say hello, maybe even buy some products from us too?
