A step back in time, at Avon park Motorcycle Drags!

Hello all you Petrol heads
As it is the day before thanks giving, I was thinking what to put on here as a blog to keep you entertained and then remembered stuff from home in the UK you may like to view.

Just thought I would add a couple of video’s of the Motorcycle drags we used to go to in the 1980’s at Avon park back home in the UK, the first video shows cool bikes but the music sucks.
but the second video is a great half an hour of footage I am certain that you will watch, as you see GSXERS against Kataners etc, have a look as its worth a watch.

2013 Muscle car and corvette nationals

(Photos by Greg Rourke and Bob Chiluk) – The 2013 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals was once again a mind-bending experience for us. In was a gathering of muscle car unicorns, ultra-rare stuff that people had not seen in years, amazing race cars, factory freaks, and a whole lot more. From the barn find display to the amazing gathering of L-88 powered Corvettes, this show really brought together an incredible assemblage of American muscle cars from the glory days of Detroit. Our dudes Bob Chiluk and Greg Rourke spent some 26 hours at the event over the span of a couple days and shot hundreds and hundreds of photos. In order to keep you conscious and upright, we’re dropping them 50 at a whack. Any more than that and you’d simple black out or lose control of your bladder at some of the stuff in here.

One of the two Boss 429 Mercury Cougars that the factory built for drag racing was at the show, a host of Super Duty “swiss cheese” Pontiacs, and barn finds for days. We’re actually shaking our fist at Bob and Greg as we type this out of jealousy. You’ll do what we did when looking at these photos and every one the process is something like this, “Is that a….woah…”.

If we’re picking favorites, Fred Hurst’s ‘Cuda gasser is damned close to the top. All of Hurst’s cars were immaculate but we think this was his all time coolest. You need to pick your favorites now!

DICK FLINTS INFAMOUS ROADSTER JUST SOLD – $577,500

Well, this Just sold yesterday!  For $577,500

This Roadster was one I liked through late school, most Hot Rod fanatics will tell you that the cover of HOT ROD in MAY 1952 was the Iconic Ride everyone wanted.

Remember, I was in the UK and we knew about Dick Flints Roadster and it went on the chopping block yesterday.

Here was Rodder Journals write up before it sold.

Dick Flint Roadster – Soon to Hit the Auction Block with RM Auctions

The Dick Flint roadster is one of the iconic hot rods of the 1950s. It has a storied history that includes one of the most memorable Hot Rod Magazine covers and served as Duane Koefed’s L.A. Roadsters transportation for decades. It was restored by noted collector Don Orosco before its class win at Pebble Beach.
On Thursday, November 21st the Dick Flint roadster will be offered at RM Auctions and Sotheby’s “Art of the Automobile” sale in New York City. It’s one of the most significant roadsters in our sport’s history, combining performance and craftsmanship in what’s become an icon of post-war hot rodding. It’s clocked over 140 mph at El Mirage, graced the cover of numerous magazines from the ’50s and today, and taken home the gold at Pebble Beach. Now it will cross the block at one of the most prestigious auction houses in the world.
The beautiful track nose is the work of famed Valley Custom in Burbank, California.
Flint fabricated the nerf bar, which perfectly house ’39 Ford taillights, and the original block-cut Firestone “Ascot” rear tires are super rare.
We featured the Dick Flint ’29 Model A back in TRJ #16, not long after it was restored by hot rodder Don Orosco at his DBO Motor Racing (now Monterey Speed & Sport). Dick, a member of Southern California’s Glendale Sidewinders, built the car after returning from WWII. The driveline is like a blueprint for traditional hot rods: a 276-inch full-house 59AB flathead hooked to a ’39 toploader and Halibrand V8 quickchange. It was enough to turn an impressive 143.54 mph at El Mirage in 1950, earning Dick an SCTA timing tag that’s still affixed to the dash.
One of the highlights of the interior is the full Auburn dash with an insert fitted with early Stewart-Warner smooth and back-mount bezel gauges.
The 276-inch 59AB flathead is equipped with a Merc crank, Eddie Meyer finned-aluminum heads, three Stromberg 97 carbs and a Winfield cam.
But horsepower wasn’t his only concern, and he enlisted Valley Custom to help him create a roadster that was as beautiful as it was fast. Together with Neil Emory and Clay Jensen, and the help of part-time Valley employee Dean Batchelor, they re-styled the Model A, crafting an aluminum track nose and three-piece hood reminiscent of pre-war Indy racers. A full belly pan followed, seams were welded and filled, and the feature lines were modified to resemble those of a ’32 Ford. Dick finished it off with a beautiful chrome-plated horizontal grille and trademark nerf bars.
The well proportioned track nose flows seamlessly into the full belly pan.
The roadster famously graced the cover of the May 1952 Hot Rod cover as well as issue number 16 of The Rodder’s Journal.
Dick owned the car for a little over 10 years, during which time it appeared in Hot Rod,Hop Up, and Popular Mechanics Hot Rod Handbook. L.A. Roadsters member Duane Kofoed bought the roadster in 1961 and owned it until the late-‘90s when Don Orosco took ownership. No expense was spared as Don and his team completely and accurately restored the roadster to its early-‘50s configuration. And their efforts were rewarded when Don won Best of Class and the Dean Batchelor Memorial Trophy at the 2001 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It’s not often that such a significant piece of our sport’s history becomes available, and it will be exciting to watch it cross the stage at Sotheby’s renowned New York auction house later this month.

Santa Pod Drags in the 80’s

Back in the 80’s I was a huge Drag Racing fan and headed to Santa Pod or Avon park to watch the bikes and cars run, here are a few video’s of back in the day that you might like to watch.

These were fun times for me and some weekends the track was frozen and had to be heated up to be able to run.

Watching Motorcycles and Hot rods was an amazing time for me back then and many of my mates would be with us camping out or sleeping in the car for the weekend.

So sit back and watch these with the sound up, i know its not the best quality but for me it was like yesterday.

1971 CB750 CAFE RACER FOR SALE $4000

OK- here we go with a cool little  CB750 HONDA Cafe Racer for someone out there, who wants to have a fun ride right now.

This is a cool little ride and is a 1971 CB750K with a recent motor overhaul, this runs great and is titled and tagged to boot.

This has a new LED headlight that functions really well.

I have Just fitted a New Stainless Steel Yoshimura style 4 into 1 system and that sounds awesome, and hugs the bike very well indeed.

The exhaust is one of my first stainless for the public and it sure looks and sounds really great, these are made at a pro shop and I am so happt with the fit and finish of our latest exhaust system.

This is not a show bike but a fun ride none the less and hence the price, this is great value for your hard earned buck.

We often get a few trade ins and just tweak the bike a little and let you guys or girls, change the bike to how you want it for your personal use and these bikes we advertise on our site have had a road test and a service too.

This is a good time to buy as you have some of your festive time coming up and can ask for good presents for the big day on the 25th of December.

This still has the original Candy Paint on the headlight bucket, gas tank and the side covers, have a look and see what you think?  As if you do not like the color as restorer would buy these from you and you can get another set off eBay and paint to what ever color scheme you like.

If you are looking for something to get on right now and play with, then look no further than here as I will also try and add some video later so you can see and hear this machine.

Everything functions on this motorcycle and it wont be long until you have changed it to suits your needs and tastes etc but a superb platform to use as this is the machine that I really enjoy working with.

This has a bobbed rear fender with a Beeza light and the bike runs on 19 inch front and 18 inch rear rims.

Runs on Dunlops and all seems to function well, I shall ride it a few more miles today, but on Wednesday we are off to Las Vegas for the Sema show so will be back on Saturday, although you can always email us at carpy@carpyscaferacers.com or text us on 714-598-8392 if you need anymore information.

This bike sits well and has an old set of RC rear 13 inch coil spring shocks to soak up any imperfections on our roads.

This has a Guilerri style racing seat that’s quite comfortable and is hinged.

Just some good old spit and polish and you will have a head turning machine that’s for sure.

Drop us a line if you need any more information OK?  We are here to help or advise and thanks for having a look at this 1971 CB750 HONDA Cafe Racer.

714-996-4597 Or text 714-598-8392

The headers look great in Stainless steel and wont rust either.

Here is a video below I just took for you to at least hear the exhaust system.

Just a little insight to what I do and share with you all.

We had a film crew come by, and thats nothing unusual these days anyway, as the wonders of magazine coverage and the internet, people like to come and check out what goes on at the shop, but this was a while ago and wanted to at least plonk it on here and you can see the old shop, the new one is simular but is always fun to look at bikes I have built in the past etc and thought it wuld be fun to share with you.
The ride by was so slow, the young producer was not much of a bike rider but he had fun and at the end of the day, thats what it is all about.
Enjoy!

Sand blaster, Honda generators, air compressers, bike lift, welders, etc.

Three vintage racing bikes in need of TLC,  go-kart frame, trailer & tool box; metal motorcycle shipping crate; Sears riding mower; there is so much here the mind boggles.

EXHAUST END CAP FOR 2.5 INCH SYSTEMS- NICKEL

Once more we have another cool dress up part to embellish that exhaust system of yours.

Have a look at these and see if this is something that you may want to fit to your Cafe racer, brat, or chopper ride as this certainly cleans the end of the pipe up.

These are hand pressed and then Nickel plated, and have 2 holes so you can Rivet or screw to your end pipe, making the tip of the system now look finished.

Available now and these are a nice sturdy piece too, none of that flimsy crap out there, see for yourself and if ya like it, grab it and fit it to your mean machine, you will be glad that you did.

This is a universal so as long as you have a 2.5 exhaust like the ones we make, you are fine.

You can leave them shiny Nickel plated, or you can paint them to what ever color you want,as that’s an easy thing to do, but finishes off the exhaust so well.

Always plenty to do at the shop.

Wow! Almost Thanksgiving already- where does the time go I ask ya?

But I now have a New Helper- “Bailey Onassis Carpenter ” is now on the payroll, she is my security system and next year will be up to about 50 pounds of charm!

Just wanted to show all you out there that I have a great new addition to the family and boy am I happy.

She loves to sleep right now but I feel like this shop has a home feeling now and everyone digs Bailey when they see her.

Things here at the shop are as busy as ever, and we are going to be bringing out a few more other things, like more parts and more apparel too.

I have plenty to do and it is always great when I come up with another part or design.

We will be having all sorts of tee shirts, so keep checking back on designs, as you may well know, I am a mad Hot Rodder too and I drew the shirt above.

Below is one of our many lamps we are making at the shop and makes a great present.

I want to add more tee shirts and more things like exhausts etc for all models, like cb350,cb400 and I have a 4 into 2 set coming out for the SOHC next month .

So keep staying tuned to this website and we promise to offer more and more to you out there.

The exhausts are going well and getting great reviews with the owners, available in Raw steel, Black or stainless steel now.
