Born to be Wild, on a Wednesday!

Wednesday already- so to get you all sorted for the day and throw caution to the wind- here is a young lady that breaks down on the El Mirage dry lakes, decides the best way is to take her bike for a ride to find help- So I thought- but some how halfway along she gets this idea to be with nature.

Anyway, something for you lot to have a look at and listen to Steppenwolf to make your day go a little better.

A beautiful day on the El Mirage dry lake in southern California.

Flash Back Friday

Just a quick old Video when I had a Bigger shop that did Cafe Racers and Hot Rods, but am so much happier doing MY own stuff and not relying of other people, so have a great weekend.

Cool Little CB500 pop’s into shop today.

This afternoon, I heard the blap of a little inline motor, looked out the window, and sure enough a very cool CB500 came for a visit.

It had all the cool stuff, on it like Alloy Triple tree, Custom Head light and Ears etc as well as a 4 into 1 system that was heat wrapped.

It is always great to see other people and their machines, he built it him self and looks like a fun tarmac eater and a super day today to get that bike out in the twisties.

Had a quick tour round the shop and then he was off to go and have some fun riding.

I like seeing these 500-4 models as you do not often see them on the road, and if you do, its the bigger brother of the 550 displacement.

So have fun out there this weekend as especially here in So-Cal we are blessed with riding weather pretty much all year round.

I had better get back to work as I have bucket loads to do, but wanted to at least try and get a Blog out today as I know that you read them by the emails that we receive here at the shop and I thank you for that.

My Front Brake Is Stuck On, what do I do?

My front brake is stuck on and I cant move the bike.
OK, this happens a lot, the longer the bike has been left unattended in storage, the more the chance that the brake fluid has gone all goopy and gelled up.
Now to free the thing temporarily, you whack the caliper body with a Rubber mallet, this will shock the piston back a bit.
Bleed the brake until fluid comes out of the bleed nipple, you know, on, off, on, off etc.
Once clear is coming out, try the brake, if it still stick, then I usually take the back of the caliper off and then with the nipple locked tight, I simply press the brake lever until the pad and piston pops out.
Keep checking fluid levels in the master cylinder though.
There is 2 ton of pressure there and this will push the piston out, make sure you have some rags over it as it can POP under pressure and get brake fluid all over the joint, and paint does not like brake fluid at all.
I then take the caliper off, remove the piston and “O” ring and I then clean it all out with lacquer thinner.
I use a Dremel Rubber wheel and hone the bore of the caliper out to get any tiny corrosion marks out and then I clean the recess out for the “O”ring.
If the piston is pitted I usually make new ones on the lathe from stainless, that way it will never rust or corrode in the body again, its the rust pitts that catch the wall or the seal and stop it from sliding back into the caliper body.
Then – I simply fit a new ring and clean the piston up and put her all back together, re-bled and there you go, a functioning brake once again. Taa Daaaar! –
We sell a Brand New Piston though that is machined out of Stainless steel and this will fix the issue that you are having from your old piston.
Grab a spare, just in case your old one does take a bit of a crap and the pads are sticking.

1979 CB650 comes out of our stable

A little while ago I had a bloke in the shop on a bog stock 1979 CB650 Honda Four- it was a classic little bike that you really do not see on the road these days, I myself have never seen any around our area, so when he cruised in, I was all eager to have a look at the bike.

Well it was a cool motor but I wasn’t a fan of the styling at all, and when he asked if we could Cafe it out a bit, I was more than happy to oblige.

He left us the bike and the keys and we got into this little machine and it turned out to be a pretty cool bike when we rode it today for the first time.

The 650 wasn’t a huge seller as it was an odd displacement for Honda, seeing as they had a 550 and of course the bigger brother 750’s were bountiful, so a mid range motor just didn’t seem to catch on and as I said, you rarely see these machines anywhere these days.

But the Honda motor is a great little powerhouse and you can rev the bollocks out of these rice boilers and you will surprise yourself at the grunt this inline four has.

I took the tank off and then went about beating the crap out of the sides, until I liked the amount of indentation that was occurring with my hammer.

The stock seat I actually stripped and powder coated and then re-shaped and upholstered it, but really was not happy at the way it looked, so that was poo canned and i wanted to try one of our best selling seat bases, the good old Rocket 4.

This was so much better and complemented the gas tank and really was a done deal, I simply painted the tank and seat in these cool colors and then chose one of our Chromed L.E.D. rear tail light assemblies and now it was bang on at the Arse end of the bike.

This 1979 Honda was taking shape, I was still not into the stock exhaust but thought a cool thing would be to remove the original Can and then make up a swooping Stainless steel end pipe that really would make the bike have a little more aggressive look to it and I think that we accomplished that look.

We upholstered the seat base in one of our traditional Diamond stitched styles as that screams the era that we are looking for, also to have the racing snaps on the seat base not only gives it the look of yesteryear, it is a handy place to use to store documents as you only have to unsnap the covers and there you go.

Also, we got rid of the stock coil overs and fitted some piggy back shock absorbers, as well as lifting the rear a little too as we like that style of stance in this machine.

That stainless exhaust swoop it really cool and we fitted our Yoshimura style Baffle and finished off with a cool steel end cap, then to complete that look, we riveted one of our badges to the pipe.

This bike also had a New set of turn signals as the stockers were as big as fully grown Oranges and needed to be gone, the new ones are brighter than a math teacher and look the era too.

To make the Yellow and White Checkers flow, I added one of our shock mounted license plate holders with a Moon eyes Yellow license plate cover.

You will also notice the Chain Guard that Dakota hand made and we chromed, looks pretty tight eh?

The side covers were stripped of the old badges etc and we pinstriped the Silver to gibe this a nice contrast.

We removed the old master cylinder as it was weeping like an onion peeler and this also looked better in Black too.

I hope to add a video of the exhaust system as she is no raspy and sounds so cool compared to the stock set up.

We hope you like what we did to this bike? I prefer to strip down to the frame to be honest, but this was a fairly clean machine and it didn’t really warrant it.

This is a fun bike, even with my podgy arse perched upon it and we hope you enjoyed us showing you this bike as we used our club man bars and grips, and many other parts to make this machine stand out from a stock bike you may see puffing around town.

This was a fun project and this really did change the look of the stock machine and I am sure the owner is going to have a blast on this 650 around the Southern Californian twisties.

Let us know if you need parts for your mean machine.

These helmets are a great and affordable commodity that I feel needs to be out there with any top helmet company, I have tried their lids and love them, they have style, flare and of course, these affordable.

I am hoping to have my own Series of Signature skid lids and I am sure you will like the designs, as I am so impressed by the quality, the price and the vast range of helmets that are now available through me.

I dig the Route 66 T-50 Series and this Super Gold flake is right up my ally, and available in XS to XXL.

So get your girl on the road and sling a very cool and unique TORC helmet on and show everyone what turns your crank.

Also, the thing I like about this particular T-50 Series is the cool set ups you can get from me as accessories. Like these have goggles available for that Cafe Racer look, a yesteryear look at an affordable price and available faster than anywhere else.

Also, check out the cool Space bubble visor , these come in different colors and they change the look and personality of your helmet for any occasion.

I simply removed the smaller peaked visor and the three snaps just locate the new smoked bubble visor with sturdiness and boy what a change.

Oh! Did I mention that their Flake is brighter than Einstein ?

So, keep watching the website for all of  TORC’S  products as I will be adding more photos as I go along.

We also will have BLINC Bluetooth helmets and the BLINC KIE communications module ,so you can listen to music phone or chatting to your buddy as to where you want to stop for some grub.

MECHANICAL LAMP FOR SALE $249.00

Well here at C.C.R. we try and do all sorts of things and this time I wanted to show you a cool lamp we just made.

This is perfect for the Gear head in your family and am sure that they would like it in their garage, workshop or office.

I used my CB750 parts and a couple of Hot Rod parts to make this cool set up. and over 18 inches high this is a really cool look and is functional as well.

Good luck knocking it over as it weighs in at a nice and solid 30 pounds.

All made here at the shop I wanted to have that steam punk look and show that we are into mechanical things, the parts you will see are from the good Old CB750 HONDA and have used the Brake Rotor, The Clutch and basket, the gear tumbler, the gearbox and the front wheel spool, to turn this into a head turning Table lamp.

This has 2 lamps and a cord with a switch, so all you have to do is find somewhere to sit the thing, plug it in and there you go, a great shop lamp.
