59 Club O.C. Section had a Great weekend.

Hey all

Well, this weekend was quite a busy one for the 59 Club Orange County Section as Saturday Morning we all met up at Boys Burgers and then Jennifer and Amanda both led the Club on the route to the Classic car and Motorcycle show that was being held at Seal beach.

sealaa1

The day was Hot and an early start was needed to try and get to the event before we started to cook, as every year it is warm there, even though it is by the beach, it gets bloody scorching some times, so, with 15 riders we headed towards the Seal beach area.

sealaa3

Great Formation of riders and very enjoyable ride, its way better than just jumping on a freeway as they tend to be boring, dangerous and not much to look at.

sealaa4

We arrived at the Naval Grounds and was greeted by the Navy Soldiers, who kindly showed where we could park our two wheeled machines, it was right by the water and a nice breeze to have on us.

We then left the bikes under armed guards and then we caught a free shuttle bus to the event, it was an old British Double Decker with some of the upper windows taken out and felt nice with the cool sea air coming through the bus as we took the short 5 minute trip to the event.

This show is enormous and usually everyone veers off to their favorite car or motorcycle and we either bump into each other or catch up later on.

Jennifer and Amanda led the group and did a fantastic job, well done Girls!

The Sun was starting to bake us but what a great show with tons of Cool Classic iron to look at and further up on the seafront they had the Motorcycle section.

Plenty to see there too and this Annual event seems to be getting bigger and bigger, great to see but I think they need a few more Vendors as so many people come to this show nopw, I know people would buy their wares.

I may have a booth and show a bike at the next one, problem is, there are so many events on through out the summer here in California, it is hard to keep up with what is what and I end up forgetting, then kick myself later on.

If you can make this show- Try and do it and there is something for everyone here, a Mixture of Cars, Trucks and Motorcycles and the atmosphere is really great, everyone is happy and more than happy to talk about their ride they have on display.

I had a blast but the weather was bloody warm and amazing as its by the beach, but there are a lot of shops and restaurants to go and check out too if you get out here.

Below, I bumped into  Fellow Brit.-Mike Brewer from the TV show- Wheeler Dealers, he has a New side kick and was trying some live video at the show, ya never know who you may meet at an event we go to.

sealaa82

We stayed for quite a few hours and could of easily stayed longer if the Sun stayed back a bit, but a great Saturday and a relaxing ride with great friends.

Tomorrow we ride to Griffith park to see our mate Andrew Chaves place as he works at live Steamers where all the smaller gauge trains are built, serviced and run, should be a blast!

It’s always fun with the 59 club, come and check us out  we are on meetup.com under Carpys Cafe Racer Meetups 59 Club OC and maybe you would like to come ride with us?

ASTON MARTIN ANNOUNCES 25 OLD-BUT-NEW DB4 GT RACERS

ASTON MARTIN ANNOUNCES 25 OLD-BUT-NEW DB4 GT RACERS

db4a

Blame Jaguar. Or praise Jaguar. Either way, it’s probably Jaguar’s fault that Aston Martin has just announced it’s building 25 ‘continuation’ versions of the rather pretty and quite potent DB4 GT.

db4b

Why? Well back in 2014 Jaguar realized it could capitalize on the booming market for rare race classics by building the six ‘missing’ vehicles from its Lightweight E-type project. The plan, back in 1963, was to build 18 ‘Special GT E-type Cars’, but only 12 were ever made, and the remaining six designated chassis numbers were never used, apparently laying dormant until some bright spark (probably from finance or marketing) hit upon the idea to dust them down and make millions.

db4c

Don’t get us wrong though, the Es in question are million-quid masterpieces, each hand-built by Jaguar’s finest craftsmen, constructed to the exact specifications of their original 1960s forebears – and Jaguar prioritized those who promised to rag them around race tracks as often as possible.

db4e

It’s mushroomed too: there’s now a Jaguar Heritage workshop that offers servicing and restoration of classic models; a Jaguar Classic Challenge race series has just completed its second season; and earlier this year Jag announced it was going to build nine new XKSS models. The road-going version of the Le Mans-winning D-type, the new cars are being built to the exact specification as they appeared in 1957, replacing the cars lost due to a factory fire at Browns Lane.

db4f

How tenuous is Aston Martin’s reason for building 25 old-but-new DB4 GTs? Did Sir David Brown once declare he’d ‘still love to be building these things in 60 years’? Does his ghost haunt the halls of Gaydon, calling out for a limited-run of DB4 GTs? Not a bit of it – Aston knows there’s the demand, so is going to build the cars, plain and simple. Hurrah. DB4 GTs for all of us!

db4g

Well not quite. Only 25 are going to be made, and with each one being hand-built by Aston Martin Works at Newport Pagnell, such labours of love won’t be cheap. Especially when you’re not just buying a car, but a two-year international track driving programme too – these continuation cars are track-only models and Aston rather wants you to use them there. Not up to scratch? You can have training from the likes of Aston Martin Racing’s multiple Le Mans class winner Darren Turner. Arrive (probably by charter, if not, then definitely first class), drive, go away again feeling like a boss.

db4h

As for the car itself… Well beauty is guaranteed as Aston isn’t messing around with the basic, beautiful shape. The GT version of the DB4 was launched back in 1959, with a shorter wheelbase (taking it down from four to two seats) and a more powerful version of the 3.7-litre straight-six engine, with 340bhp punted to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual ‘box and limited-slip diff. Stirling Moss (he wasn’t a ‘Sir’ back then) scored a debut race victory at Silverstone, and a total of 75 GTs were built by ’63. Eight of those were ‘lightweight’ specials (now worth over £3m each) and it’s those cars’ specs Aston is now copying.

db4n

With one or two modern tweaks. Aston promises ‘improvements in engine performance, handling, braking and safety, with great care taken to ensure these enhancements build upon the original’s exceptional qualities while retaining its feel and character.’ The aluminium panels, for instance, will use modern digital tech to ensure accuracy, before they’re hand finished and fitted over the tubular frame. And the VIN numbers will carry on from the last original DB4 GT ordered (chassis 0202R, if you’re interested) for what Aston declares is ‘an unbroken bloodline’. Leaving aside the intervening 58 years…

db4o

Not 57? No, because the first prototype won’t be ready until the spring, and the first car reaches a customer in autumn 2017. (The car in our pictures is an original, because we’d thought you’d like to gawp at it). Each DB4 GT will be constructed at Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell, Aston’s spiritual home, and it’ll be the first car built there since the Vanquish S in 2007.

db4p

You might not like the idea of a classic built to modern-day standards, but the originals really are now too valuable to drive in anger, or at all. Yup, Aston will make some easy money out of these, but if giving the world 25 DB4 GTs is the result – and would you bet against other continuation cars in the future? – then we’re all for it. In short, we’d have one, to sit alongside a Vulcan, for the ultimate two-car (track) garage. Now, lucky numbers, please, please come up…

Old relics in the Cold

Well happy Saturday to you all

Here in SoCal, the only snow we see is 90 minutes up the road at high elevation in Big bear etc, but you don’t find cool stuff like this anymore and what cool rides are sat in the cold on this video , albeit they will be crushed but if the owner had any sense, he would make a bloody fortune if he sold each one.

Plenty to chose from as I can Model A’s to cool step side pick ups and panel wagons, a must see if you can make it here, but not sure if the owner will stick the shotgun out the window.

Sure hope someone buys these as there is so much potential here.

Enjoy you Saturday.

Peace and Grease.

Wings, Wheels and Rotors show

Sunday Morning sure came around quick, so Jennifer and I decided that we would go to a local show, some 9 miles away in Los Alomitos and a 15 minute drive from th house, something that is a rarity these days for us, so we jumped in my Ford and off we went to the Army base up the road.

DSC_0006

C17 Troop carrier was grazing on the runway, this is a big plane but not as big as the C31 most people see these days. But got a lot of attention none the less.

DSC_0010

Still an immense aircraft with a huge payload and more Horsepower then many Dragsters hooked together and more Primer color than a Battleship.

DSC_0012

This has 4 Props and would cause more draught than the latest Hurricane that just hit Mexico this weekend.

DSC_0009

A popular Haunt for everyone today as not many Civilians get a chance to walk around in one of these massive planes these days.

DSC_0005

When I was 12 Years old I joined the Army Cadets, mostly to get out of the way of my Old man, these were fun times for me and looks like for these lads too.

DSC_0011

The Base had many cadets out today and a great atmosphere was felt on the runway today.

DSC_0008

I would of liked to have seen this fire up as when they tilt the rotors for a dive, they scream like a Banshee!

DSC_0007

The Pipers came out and did their thing, they were pretty good too.

DSC_0013

I love Vintage Jeeps and rode in a Willys that came from the Normandy landings in WW2 and drove it up the Mall to take the salute past the Queen in 1995 and boy was it great to see these today.

DSC_0014DSC_0015 DSC_0016

The weather was perfect for this show and lots to see and do, I may take the bike club out this way next year as we had a ball walking around.

DSC_0017

Bright Orange Turtle Deck T had a 6 Banger in it, an oddity for sure but always cool to see different things at this show.

DSC_0018

Corvair with an Old Coddington styling.

DSC_0019

This 1950 2 door Merc was crying out for a roof chop.

DSC_0020

Bad Ass 55 Chevy Gasser was the best for me, such a tough machine and owned one back in the UK in 1996.

DSC_0021

Littlefield supercharger gets this shoebox down the road in quick time.

DSC_0022

Clean 289 Mustang with unusual Factory color sat proudly amongst the newer stangs.

DSC_0023

The good old Austin Healey 3000 Mk11 cars were a reminder of Brands Hatch for me.

DSC_0024

Plenty of Tri-Chevys there today but have always liked them and had to take some photos.

DSC_0025

I love 55 Bowties, I miss my old one so many cool memories stirred up for me at this show this weekend.

DSC_0026

Ive been after these headlights for years and here is a set on this Jalopy.

DSC_0027

Four Winfield carbs and cool old school Bellmouths look Hungry like baby chicks.

DSC_0028

1940 Dodge was actually really cool and looked so much like the Ford.

DSC_0029

Model T tracker was cleaner than a cats arse.

DSC_0030

Little 4 Banger power too.

DSC_0032

A mixture of everything at the show and thats what makes it a fun event.

DSC_0033

Model T had a Dago front end, thats all I liked as the rest kinda went down hill.

DSC_0034

The license plate really says it all. And boy did this fifty five sit in the weeds too.

DSC_0035

This 63 and a half was really tidy.

DSC_0036

As I said, a mixture of everything at the show and this was a loud color with the ghost flames.

DSC_0037

A smorgasbord of Classic tin all in one line and a good shot I thought.

DSC_0038

Super clean 66 VW bug was a hit in my eyes, tastefully done and I would of driven this home for sure.

DSC_0031

This Mint green Spudbaker was tidy and got many looks at the show.

DSC_0039

This 1956 Belair was clean.

DSC_0040

The Ford has some huge tubbed out rims and those tires were chunky!

DSC_0041

Old and New side by side.

DSC_0042

Plenty of Muscle here today and this Goat was by no means no exception.

DSC_0043

This 2 door 1957 Ford had an awesome color scheme and a 427 wedged in the bay too.

DSC_0065

Work truck 35 Ford was a Hit, using Vintage style Firestone tractor tires.

DSC_0044

I will never get enough of planes and loved this.

DSC_0046 DSC_0047

They never fired it up when I was there and I wish they would of, they had my favorite the P51 sat next to her too.

DSC_0049

Lady Alice sitting on the Tarmac, begging to be taken out and into the sky.

DSC_0048

Would of been fun to see these fly today.

DSC_0045

Flying in Original ww2 livery, this was cool to be so close too.

DSC_0050

We couldnt get in this and I understand why, but wanted to get and have a look at the dash, as I love the gauges, lucky for me I had a zoom lens.

DSC_0052

Love that Dashboard set up.

DSC_0053

All sorts here today and fun to be able to walk around.

DSC_0054

Lady Alice had 6 of the best on show.

DSC_0055

So Army, Navy and Air force all represented today.

DSC_0057

All this needed was some cool Nose Art.

DSC_0058

Original Uniforms. always great to see.

DSC_0059

Chin waggin.

DSC_0060

The Three Amigos hang out.

DSC_0062

British Para, but collar should be down and zip done up.

DSC_0063

WTF?

DSC_0064

I wasnt sure why the Star Wars was going off but funny as hell to see for me.

2013 Muscle car and corvette nationals

(Photos by Greg Rourke and Bob Chiluk) – The 2013 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals was once again a mind-bending experience for us. In was a gathering of muscle car unicorns, ultra-rare stuff that people had not seen in years, amazing race cars, factory freaks, and a whole lot more. From the barn find display to the amazing gathering of L-88 powered Corvettes, this show really brought together an incredible assemblage of American muscle cars from the glory days of Detroit. Our dudes Bob Chiluk and Greg Rourke spent some 26 hours at the event over the span of a couple days and shot hundreds and hundreds of photos. In order to keep you conscious and upright, we’re dropping them 50 at a whack. Any more than that and you’d simple black out or lose control of your bladder at some of the stuff in here.

One of the two Boss 429 Mercury Cougars that the factory built for drag racing was at the show, a host of Super Duty “swiss cheese” Pontiacs, and barn finds for days. We’re actually shaking our fist at Bob and Greg as we type this out of jealousy. You’ll do what we did when looking at these photos and every one the process is something like this, “Is that a….woah…”.

If we’re picking favorites, Fred Hurst’s ‘Cuda gasser is damned close to the top. All of Hurst’s cars were immaculate but we think this was his all time coolest. You need to pick your favorites now!

IRWINDALE DRAGS LAST NIGHT

 photo 003_zps9f37dfd4.jpg

Thursday run what ya brung was a fun evening to be had that’s for certain, I was amazed at how many people turned up for the event, we drove in at about 7pm and there were cars all over the place getting into the staging lanes.

 photo 012_zpsf5e68e13.jpg

Once we parked, it is an easy walk to the track and to be honest- for spectators, this is a great vantage point to see racing from the whole length of the 1/8th mile.

 photo 011_zps3cac6905.jpg

There was so may entrants is was great to see so many different rides out there and the temperature was near on perfect for Racing.
 photo 013_zpsfb2a7cbb.jpg

We walked the staging lanes and it was more packed than Superman in a kids costume.

 photo 016_zpscc610613.jpg

It was funny to hear people brown nosing their competitors, or hearing another bloke telling everyone how great his ride was and what it can do etc.

 photo 015_zps5b7629aa.jpg

I personally love the 50’s and 60’s era of the drags the Gasser wars are the best as these are just Bricks in shape but haul so much arse!!!

 photo 017_zpse14af024.jpg

The track was actually prepped for a change and only one issue all night , that’s quite rare.

 photo 006_zpse8716bbd.jpg

As they track now has advertising banners, the roar of the motors sound even louder as the sounds bounce off the walls.

 photo 004_zps3cc70c94.jpg

Plenty to see at the race and am glad that we went as it was fast and quite furious at times.

 photo 010_zps6644f3ad.jpg

This 55 was tough and is a regular at the track and is a dialed in machine. Reminds me of my old one I had back in the UK in 1996.

 photo 009_zps1fcb4145.jpg

Many different models are in the staging lanes and it was great to be able to stroll up and have a look at what they were running etc.

 photo 005_zpsd4c9cd41.jpg

This ride blew everyone’s mind, it is a 4 second 1/8th miler so he had to Slow down to 5’s here as the track runs out real quick, but boy was it FAST !!!

 photo 002_zps10848f2f.jpg

Constant 6 seconds this machine and the old fella that drove it was grinning all the way.

 photo 001_zps9e33efed.jpg

This was a tight ride and the thing just dug in and rode hard all the way down the track.

 photo 007_zps72e15574.jpg

Yep- running the devils time up here is a wee bit daunting for me.

 photo 043_zpsa82a9e02.jpg

This fella ran his quad, high 8’s and low 9’s but he was having fun that’s for sure.

 photo 023_zps312a4c0d.jpg

Everyone’s delight was watching the local ice cream van roar up the strip, whilst playing his music and the crowd hollered hard, he took the race easily too.

 photo 025_zps36e16a65.jpg

And the winner gets an Ice Cream !!!!

 photo 019_zps8f40b5f0.jpg

Bikes ran too and at night I would find it a little bit unnerving but I love Motorcycles so much the fear for them goes away, this takes a lot of heart and determination for motorcycles as there is a bad bump on the right side of the track and if you get that lane, you will be sure to bang your chin on the tank Hard when you hit that point.

My little camera is not good at night but I thought I would add some videos for you to watch that I took.

It is always good to come and attend a local track as they need your support to keep people drag racing off the street.

We had a super night and am glad that I took my camera with me to try and share some of the nights events.

If you are ever in Southern California, try and check out Irwindale as it has a Dragstrip and Speedway circuit.

Have a Great weekend everyone.

WHITTIER CRUISE AT RUBYS DINER

Well, Friday night and Jenn took me to the local cruise up in Whittier, and a great meeting it was.

Plenty of different vehicles to gaze at and of course spend time with my girl looking at cool Hot rod and Classics and listening to the sounds of yester year that was playing from the speakers in the parking lot.

A mixed bag of rides were there and the atmosphere so so friendly.

This cruise has been going for many moons now and I really enjoyed it, we also sat down for some cheeseburgers in Rubys Diner and enjoyed the evening.

Not often you see a Country Squire these days so a nice surprise when I saw that sitting there.

All styles of vehicles, so you know you are going to find a favorite in here, check out the rolled grill.

This is a great area to reside in and I love living here, if you ever get to these parts, check Rubys out on a Friday as there is always something there for everyone to see.

Below, “Christine’s ” cousin, this Plymouth Savoy was awesome, so big and fins that would make a shark nervous too.

This will be a cool place for us to pop in and out of on a Friday, and the good thing is that cars come in and out through out the night, so you never know what will turn up.

Plenty of Bow tie’s representing there this week.

But plenty of Henry’s rides too.

So if you dig fins and chrome, Muscle Cars, Classics and the good old Hot Rod, then this is a super fun place to hang out, grab a burger and listen to some tunes on a Friday evening.

See ya there!!!!
