VIVA LAS VEGAS PART 3 The PIN UP and BURLESQUE

Well, as Vegas is obviously known for the Gambling, it is also well known to have the Handle ” Sin City” and as we were at VLV there was cool stuff to feast your eyes on and I know thyat the pun up and burlesque shows were a hit with all.

Below is some photos that I have used from the guys collection and his information is on on the photos, great shots that need to be shown Globally and I am certain there are more than one you will like.

Enjoy these shots as it will get your week off to a fun start. First off, how about the Jiving on the dance floor, bloody brilliant and all sorts of styles from Lindy hop to 50’s Rock n roll, the dance floor was a great place to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere and great moves.

They even had a Blokes Swim wear show too and next year I think I will try and enter, i mean, with Skinny Legs and a frame that wouldn’t fit a small tent, it should make everyone laugh.

How cool are some of these shots from Tim? I love the way he captures their expressions and thank him for such a good set of photos of the weekender, loved it.vegas526 vegas527 vegas528 vegas529 vegas531 vegas532

Well, below VLV18 had a touch of the original Sin City and they had Burlesque shows and Burlesque bingo, we couldn’t get in as it was too packed but fun though and be sure to catch it next year.

VIVA LAS VEGAS 18 Part 1

What a great time Jennifer and I had whilst attending VLV18 and, as a VIP Guest of Tom Ingram, I sure needed a break from the shop and this was the perfect way to relax and enjoy something that I really do have a passion for and wanted to relax and take the whole 4 days in and experience the great bands, car shows and people that attend this event every year.

It is hard to explain what this event is all about in just a sentence, for you guys it is just a little insight into the “Scene” I was into back home in the UK for over 3 decades. Everything was fun, and music for all tastes, from Instrumentals to fast playing Double Bass banging Rockers.

We stayed at the Orlean’s Casino and it was packed to the gills but a super atmosphere and music blaring out of every orifice of the casino where ever you sat, we unloaded the car and then went and had a drink and check the area out as more and more pople were driving or flying in for this event from all over the globe.

One of the highlights for me was to get to see Sweden’s ” Go Getters”  Play, as they are a tremendous band and the leader singer plays drums standing up and is quite the entertainer and such a professional sound, clean crisp and understandable, a brilliant set that we stood amongst all the crowd to enjoy, never have I enjoyed standing for so long!

Below is a you tube Video for you to get a wee bit of insight into that weekend. Some obscure stuff too as well as early Rockabilly in the main halls and of course the greaqt 45’s spinning of some of my favorite tracks, but below is just the car show outside that attracted a lot of people and the weather did not disappoint one bit.

Another video off the internet of car show.

Another video of pool side.

one more from the net

The car show was really good, plenty of different cars to look at and we enjoyed walking around the lines of vehicles and also took in all the vendors booths etc.

vegas103

Plenty of cool stuff to look at, as well as bands playing live as you walk around the giant parking lot, what was pretty cool to see was an old Airstream has been converted to a mobile barber shop.

vegas78

Suavecito is a Pomade brand that has been out a few years and really took of in California and this Airstream was the perfect business card.

vegas78a

It was a popular attraction that’s for sure and was cool inside as the Sun had started to do its thing and by the afternoon, it was cooking us all.

vegas321Plenty of the pin up stuff all over the place to be honest, I took a few snaps as we walked around the car show and everyone seemed to be having fun, no attitude and a really good vibe at VLV 18, something that is rarely seen at events anymore, so Kudos to Tom Ingram for putting together a great event once more.

vegas313

I saw some cool hairstyles, clothing etc and even unusual tattoo’es at this event and thought I would share some with you on my Blog.

vegas1

This Girly had a really detailed back piece of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London in the Blitz of WW2, very detailed and could not help but notice it.

vegas309

Steady Clothing were doing great and very approachable, people seemed to like everything that was there at the show and too much eye candy to lost on here at this time.

vegas308

As the Sun was up early, it was a good idea to buy a parasol and there were plenty on parade this day and kept everybody that used one cool.

vegas307

People meeting up for the first time, or not seen for years was always cool to see, I saw a couple of mates I had not seen in 20 years.

vegas201

I haven’t seen mark since back in the UK and now he lives out in Oregon, so glad to see him. mark may be known to you as G minus Mark from his pod casts. ” http://gminusmark.podomatic.com/

vegas306

A great day for checking the vendors out to see what they had to offer at Viva Las Vegas. 18. See if you can make it out next year.

vegas305

The Girls all seemed to like the 20% off deal as they were busy all day.

vegas302

Custom Scalloped 60 caddy got plenty of attraction that day and a good opportunity for the Pin up girls to take advantage of a great Backdrop for some cool shots.

vegas301

The Sun Belted down more than the weatherman predicted and plenty of umbrellas and parasols were needed this weekend.

vegas82vegas81

Yes Girlies, there were Tons of bags for you lot and I am sure Jennifer was loving them all, you can see she had her own one she bought some time ago.

vegas79

A perfect weekend for hanging by the pool too and if you did not have a bathing Suit, there were plenty of vendors that sold them here.

vegas196

Always some cool people walking around and everyone was in a fun mood and just enjoying the weekend that awaited them, with sun, food, Alcohol and brilliant bands playing some knock out Music, it was going to be a great event.

Vegas194a

Great outfit displaying Route 66, Jennifer had already seen this material a few months back and almost made a costume out the same design, small world eh?

vegas197

Mr pomp lives down the road from us so was great to see him and his girl, thats his Flaked pick up he painted behind too.

Well, I have run out of time right now, so will Blog this and get back to work, many email me saying they enjoy the Blogs, so I continue to do this.

Stay tuned for part 2.

VIVA LAS VEGAS 18 and we shall be off there on Thursday

Well, the time is almost here for Viva Las Vegas 18- Jennifer and I shall be leaving on Thursday and driving up to the infamous desert resort, for some superb Music, great food, hanging by the pool, trying cocktails and generally enjoying the whole sin City deal.

There sure is a lot that’s happening at the Orleans Hotel and if you can make a trip to Nevada this week and weekend, then this really be something that you will remember. Check out:     http://www.vivalasvegas.net/  as that will have ALL the schedules of events and a great event this is to be seen.

I have been going to Toms gigs for over 3 decades and this brings people from all over the globe, its a must see event if you have never been before and a great way to catch up with old and new friends too.

Tons of bands to choose from too, so hope to see some of you there.

There will be new Rockabilly Bands and some famous old school ones for sure, the Sonics will be playing and i for one think that will be great to see.

Also Joe Clay will be playing, I first saw him in the early 1980’s when he was rediscovered and been many years since I have seen the old fella play and a great opportunity to see the Blonde Bomber crank out his old hits.

here is just some of the bands and Dee Jay’s that will be attending this week.

I’m Now President of the O.C. 59 Club Section – Stoked.

I have lived this lifestyle for many decades, cant tell you why I love this and the passion for Motorcycles and old vintage things but that’s just me, but- there are many like minded people around the globe and we all share something in common.  I have been honored to have the title of the president of the 59 Club in the O.C. and am looking forward to meeting you on some of the rides we shall be organizing, as I hope to do this for fun, relaxation and sometimes for a charity too.

We have a certain camaraderie and I wanted to just drop some lines and information about this historic club that started back home and now flourishes around the world.

Make a cuppa, put your feet up and try and absorb some of this information below if you are interested in being part of this great club.

Peace and Grease as always.

The 59 Club

First some History on this Ton Up Club.

The 59 Club, or Fifty Nine Club, was formed in London, England by Reverend Fathers John Oates, Bill Shergold and Graham Hullet in 1959 as a church-sponsored youth organization to help underprivileged youth in the church’s parish.  In 1960, sensing that the young rebellious bikers of North London that raced along the North Circular Road might be in need of spiritual guidance, Reverend Bill Shergold, an avid biker himself, rode up to the Ace Café to see if these “Ton-Up boys,” as they were called, would be interested in Sunday mass services where they could have their bikes blessed.  Surprisingly it turned out to be hugely successful, and thus the relationship between Londons bikers and the 59 Club began.

By 1962 the club had transformed into a very popular hangout where the wild biker hooligans of the time could socialize, tune-up their bikes, play billiards and basically stay out of trouble.  It also became a clubhouse where you could dance and listen to 1950s Rock’n’Roll and Rockabilly music, which was favored by the Rockers and their predecessors the Ton-Up boys.  The club was also the first place to premiere the 1950s Marlon Brando film The Wild One, which was banned in UK cinemas by the BBC.  Throughout the 1960s the Fifty Nine Club sponsored numerous motorcycle rallies in Scotland, Wales, Germany, and the famous T.T. Races on the Isle of Man; and it became a beacon in the community for social activism when it became a registered charity in 1965.  Within a short period of time the motorcycle section of the youth club became so large it overtook the entire club and eventually transformed into the 30,000 member strong, worldwide motorcycle club it is today. The clubs success, according to Father Bill Shergold, was based on its entire lack of rules or formal structure and its association during the 1980s with the Rocker Reunion Movemement created by Len Paterson.  Also pivotal to the clubs legacy was the creation of a Classic Section, a sub-group of members dedicated to upholding the 1960s Rockers subculture (the music, the fashion style, and British motorcycles).

The 59 Club is now based in Plaistow, London and meets twice weekly. It remains a registered charity as established in 1965, and has evolved into a place where families and bikers are welcome. Today the club is led by Father Scott Anderson, a fellow motorcycle rider and Rocker, and is still favored by those who are passionate about classic or vintage British, European and Café Racer style motorbikes.  Current members continue the proud 50 years-long traditions and original club philosophy of having: no rules, no ranks, no politics, and no church agenda.  Even though we are a registered charity we are not a ‘Christian motorcycle club’ or a religious organization, but the club is open to male and female bikers alike.  Also important is that the club has never been a 1% or outlaw biker club, but do we respect all motorcycle riders.

insidegate

The club exists today as a historical celebration of the original 1950s and 60s British biker subculture, which was centered on 1950s Rock’n’Roll and Rockabilly music, British motorbikes and Café Racers.  The club also maintains strong ties to the Ace Café and the annual Rocker Reunions outside of London each year.  Over the last five decades the club has become an icon in the international Rockabilly music community and Café Racer motorcycle scene.  The 59 Club is still a motorcycle club for individuals who are passionate about riding bikes, gathering at late-night pubs and cafes, and attending bike related events, like the annual ride to Brighton from the Ace Café in North London.  Our 50 year relationship with British motorcycles, Café Racers, the Ace Cafe and Rock’n’Roll music has been and always will be our pride and passion.

rowofbikes

The Fifty Nine Club has officially recognized sections in Australia, Belgium, Chicago, France, Germany, Italy, California, Spain, Switzerland, and Texas.  Only card-carrying members are allowed to wear the 59 Club patch.  These members have paid their club dues and have ID cards registered in London.  We wear our patches with pride knowing that we represent a motorcycle club with a vibrant British motorcycling history and a worldwide following.  We equally cherish the clubs association with the modern Café Racer motorcycle scene.

Cheers mates.

Our Beginnings in So Cal

So why a California branch of the 59 Club of England?  Well after being a member of the 59 Club for many years, I along with friends from Los Angeles and San Diego who are also members noticed a disparity that we felt needed to be addressed, there was no unified 59 Club representation in Southern California for members to belong to. So began the yearlong email inquiries to London about creating a new section, and having their authorization and blessing to do so.  After many, many months of communication we were given the green light to move forward with this new American section, we first created a Facebook page for current members and supporters with plans for an official website to come later. Secondly we sought approval from the Ton-Up/Rockers community in England who needed to know we were doing this with respect and the strictest adherance to British 59 Club customs and traditions. This was not going to be a ripoff of the name or a mockery of 50 years of British motorcycle culture, we wanted to do it right; we eventually got a nod of approval from a large number of Rockers new and old from England. And here we are now almost 3 years later with new members in Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Orange County, and San Diego; a gathering site for Southern California members who were already in the club, and a new website to respectfully promote the original 1950s/1960s British motorcycle subculture here in So Cal.

Having spent time in England and Europe, and being a biker for the better half of my adult life, as well as being a Rocker for over a decade, I would like to dedicate this website to my brother and sister Rockers in England, Australia, Europe and the very, very few of us that exist here in the States. I’m proud to be a Rocker and a member of the 59 Club of England. I want to thank some important people in the Rocker/59 Club community for all their support over the last year and a half; Larry Fletcher of 59 Club – Chicago, Shadow from 59 Club – Australian, and friends from England Heather and her husband Max from the former original 59 Club – Italian Section. I also want to thank the Council of Management in London, specifically Sandra Hall, for their blessings and support of this new American section.  Lastly, I want to dedicate this new section to the growing Cafe Racer scene here in the U.S. and to the hundreds of American bikers in Southern California that choose to ride vintage or classic British motorcycles.  So ride with the wind at your back and the warm sun on your face, we’ll be riding up the North Circular to the Ace Cafe, in spirit at least.

Below, me and mark Wilsmore from the Ace and good friend and an ambassador of the Ton up lifestyle that I truly live and love.

About the California Section

Posted by admin on June 25, 2012

The California arm of the 59 Club carries on the original club ideology and passion for vintage motorcycles like BSA, Norton, Triumph, AJS, Matchless, Royal Enfield, Ducati, Moto Guzzi, BMW, and Café Racers from Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki.  Our members come from all walks of life; blue-collar and white-collar, male and female.  Most members are in their 30s or 40s who’ve been riding for a long time, some are educated professionals, and some have families, most of us ride on the weekends, some of us ride every day.  Overall the club has a very diverse mix of people and backgrounds, but we all have one thing in common, riding vintage or classic British, European or Japanese bikes and café racers.

As an officially recognized section with card-carrying members all over Southern California we keep true to club traditions; therefore we have no club officers, no politics, very few rules, and we have zero tolerance for personal drama, racist or sexist attitudes, drug use or criminal activity. You don’t have to be a Greaser or love Rockabilly to join our section, but you do have to own, ride and maintain a bike that reflects our club philosophy, you have to understand our club history, and hopefully feel a kinship with what we represent.  We also support other clubs with similar passions.

Overall we want to keep our club and our sections focused on meeting up at out-of-the-way locales, fun rides, camaraderie and sharing a few rounds of beers with your mates.  We ride as a group, and often with other Southern California-based clubs.  We attend music & bike events, weekenders, and basically enjoy the biker lifestyle as the original Ton-Up boys and Rockers did in 1950s and 1960s Great Britain.  And where ‘cracking the ton’ was a customary rite of passage in England, it is too a rite of initiation for the California arm of the legendary 59 Club, among other traditions such as jukebox ‘record racing’ between pubs and diners.

We attend the annual Mods vs Rockers rides in San Diego and Los Angeles, the annual Hansen Dam ride here in L.A., and numerous other bike events.  We frequently ride up the PCH, sometimes along Mulholland, the Angeles Crest, Malibu Canyon or the Santa Monica mountains; more often than not we just hit up a local pub around town.  In San Diego we ride up to the Julian/Lake Henshaw/Ramona areas quite often, sometimes East County, and occasionally down the Coronado strand to Imperial Beach or up the PCH to Oceanside

Friday the 13th but a good day at the shop

OK- its Friday and its also Friday the 13th but a good one, the sun is out, the shop is busy and its almost the weekend.
A number of things going on where we are in this sunny state. SoCal speed shop and Waldens have their Open days, limeworks was yesterday and he had a blast, and the start of the Fathers day Roadster show is on in Pomona, as well as at Fontana, Our shop greaser is racing his Kawasaki in the summit series and also racing against his old man, which is great as it will be fathers day, so maybe kota will give him some slack?…NOT!

Ok I like to put Music videos on that cheer my day up and some of you like them by the emails we get here at CCR, so here is a great band, the Reverend Horton heat, who plays down here on a regular basis.
So check this high def video out called “let me teach you how to eat” Bit risque but great for a Friday.

Below is a video from Danny Rockabilly and His Clan-Dirty Baby Music Video and its a new upbeat tempo that i really dig, the riffs are pretty reminisant of early Sun recordings and I just like it and thought would share wit you.

Massive part of my life for over 3 decades and I lived the whole lifestyle, I loved the music clothes the jiving, we sure had a ball back in the UK in the 80’s and 90’s, this was a 5 night a week lifestyle for me and good old Ronnie dawson was a superb guy that was taken away from us waaaay to early.
This is just a smidgen of what we did.

Here it is, my New Royal Enfield- Finally

I have been waiting since November 2013 for the Royal Enfield’s to come into the country and here it is in may and I find out that Today I shall take charge of  my machine.

This little Bike is a quite a bit of an improvement on the earlier models and having a new re-engineered power plant that now produces 535cc, which of course is not going to rip your arms off but, is a better built motor than the ones of past, thus said is a fun ride that when you first kick it in the guts, the motor will jump into life and have that deep long stroking sewing machine sound that I have not heard in many years.

But let me emphasize something right out of the gate on this Blog- although this is a cool Classic cafe racer styled machine, it is not going to be a Ton Up machine in this guise, this is a fantastic town bike and journeys are fin but topping out at the 80mph mark may not be what you are wanting, But- in all that said, this is a superb machine at a really really affordable price, I shall will make sure that once all run in, this machine of mine will hit the TON with a few engine mods, but for value for money this is awesome.
I have a Thruxton if i want to go crazy and get my earole scrapping the tarmac and this is something I really wanted as it has so many classic lines, how can you not love it?

This has so much appeal to the public, Girls will really dig it as it has kick start and electric start and is a light weight machine and a lot lower than even the Thruxton. So take the bike with a pinch of salt and with some Mods, this machine can fly- Remember, this is a New production and I guarantee you will see fast ones on the road later in the year.

Plenty of these have been made but it has taken a long time to get to my shores of Sunny California as the emissions here are tighter than anywhere in the globe.

The bike is a fun machine and no way could I build one as cheap as these are to purchase and this is a fun little Cafe Racer motorcycle that looks like back in the day, of course much improvement on reliability and handling,

What is cool is that the front end has a single disc rotor and has been blessed to adorn a Brembo set up that will make sure that you stop when you really need to.

These have been out back home for almost a year I guess and today I was happy to get the phone call to come and get mine.

These machines shout out at the world that Royal Enfield is back and I for one are grateful that the risk they took was a solid one.

I was so surprised to see that these are even equipped with a set of Paoli Piggy Back shock absorbers, another cool addition to this bike.

This has a kick starter and an electric, so no more embarrassing stalls at the traffic lights.

The bike is a great little design and this has the New Harris Performance Twin Down Tube Cradle frame that was meticulously re-engineered back home in the UK.

The gas tank is 13.5 litres so should do quite well on a road trip and at 365 Kg this is nt a heavy bike at all and that opens to door for many riders, especially those who are shorter and have had problems with other machines.

The exhaust is awful and one of the first things that i am going to change is this and we will be making our own systems, as well as other cool parts to improve some of the looks to change the Modern styling to a little more Cafe look.

These have got to go, the massive European style license plate backing, the hideous turn signals will get more classic styling ones and of course the rear fender will be poo canned and have a short rear end as the bike will look way better like that.

I will also be removing the headlight as it is too bulky and shall fit one of our very own models to give a wee bit more finesse.  Also, the front fender needs to be shortened and that’s easy as the mud flap screws off but shall be making new fenders for this as well.

Once the big turn signals are removed and smaller ones fitted, I shall feel better, the UK ones are way better but these ones on here are going this weekend, I actually like the gauges as they remind me of my T100 Triumph Daytona.

I think that I shall bung some pin lines on it too this week to break the Red up a little, and all my machines have pinstripes somewhere on them.

Plenty for me to see and do to personalize my little Red Rocket and be sure to check my blogs on what I do with this bike as I shall be offering the parts that we produce to you lot who have just purchased your Royal Enfield Continental GT.

Cool Tunes that I listen too.

OK, for your Morning Cup of CAFE, here we are with a few sounds that I like to listen to from time to time.

Good friends of mine are Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys, his lead Guitarist – Ashley Kingman has been a mate of mine for quite a few decades now when we had BSA Bantams and used to head out to Hemsby for a Rockin Weekender, this band has been around for many Moons and never tire of their cool style.
And great to see them on late Night with Conan OBrian, so get this band out to the world on a Major TV network.

So being a blog on Tuesday, here are some tracks I dig that you can play whilst you work, some you may like, some you may not, but I dig it all and thanks for looking.

This March 21, 2005 file photo shows members of The Comets, from left to right, Marshall Lytle, Franny Beecher, and Joey Ambrose perform at Rock is Fifty party held at the Gibson Guitar Studio in New York. Beecher, lead guitarist for Bill Haley and the Comets, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2014.AP

Franny Beecher, lead guitarist for Bill Haley and the Comets, which helped kick off the rock and roll era with the hit “Rock Around the Clock” in 1955, has died. He was 92.

Beecher died in his sleep Monday night at a nursing home near Philadelphia, daughter Pauline Grinstead said Tuesday.

The Comets, whose hits also included “See You Later, Alligator,” are credited by some music historians with having recorded the first rock and roll song in 1953 with “Crazy Man, Crazy,” the group’s biography on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website says.

Beecher, born Francis Beecher in 1921 in Norristown, started playing guitar before crowds when he was 17 and continued until he was 90. Before the Comets, he performed with Buddy Greco and Benny Goodman, Grinstead said.

“My dad didn’t play music for money. He was no businessman,” she said. “He played music for music.”

Although Philadelphia session musician Danny Cedrone played on the original recording of “Rock Around the Clock” before his death in 1954, Beecher played the signature song for the first time on national television in 1955 and also played with the group in films.

“Rock Around the Clock” became a hit again nearly 20 years after its release when it was included on the soundtrack of “American Graffiti.”

The Comets broke up in 1962, but in the 1980s, Beecher and some of the original members reunited and played tour dates around the United States and internationally for years.

Grinstead said her father also is survived by two sons and six grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were pending.

Here are some you tube videos I thought you may like.

Interview with Franny

Some great footage for you.

Big loss but he lived a long and fun life and what a great guitar player.

Foot Tapping, Knee Slapping Sounds that I listen too !

Plenty of sounds that I like these days and here is a cool french band called.
Jake Calypso & His Red Hot – My Baby Rocks
They sure can belt cool 50’s style Rockabilly and I dig the song.

Going with some traditional Blues with some Scat man thrown in for good measure, I love the raw style of Blues and hope this gets your foot tapping.

I saw Fellow Brit play at the House of Blues last year, a talented guy who loves the sounds of Doctor Ross and the Chicago Blues Slide.

Now Darrel Higham is a great British guitar picker – and this is how he shows you if you want to have a sound like Scotty Moore, then just try this.

I dig the sounds of the rockabilly days when i was at the weekenders in the UK back in the 80’s and this certaingly has that Rockin 80’s feel.

Now back home Jack Rabbit Slim was a solid sounding rockabliiy band and still bang their stuff out. Cannot get enough of this.

This time how about something a little different? This band is from the Ukreine and with the troublks out there, its a shame they cant go and watch this band, they have a heavy Johnny Burnette feel to their music and I dig it, cool title and great music.

Just thought I would add some unusual sounds for you lot to listen too that I dig, hope you liked it?
