MOONEYES ANNUAL OPEN DAY WAS A BLAST

Well, going to Norwalk Blvd and stopping outside the famous Open Eyes, has always been a cool thrill for me, so much Hot Rod History in that little Yellow building and here we are again for the huge show that generates so much excitement and popularity, that I hope one day Shige can buy next door and make this an even bigger event.

I have been attending these shows since I moved here from other shores back in 2000 and to go to this show is a superb social event for me, some people I have not seen in years but also some people I have seen the day before, this is a fun family atmosphere with Genuine interest in our “Hobby”- ” Lifestyle”

The sun seemed to be up early today and as I kicked the Royal Enfield into Life, I could feel the beads of sweat running down my face like I was about to be shot out of a Circus cannon into an awaiting Net, that was made of wet paper .  But the Royal Enfield jumped into life, ticking over like a well oiled sewing machine, I clunked the gear shufter into first and it ubruply Grinded into the gear and then it was go time, Revs up, Clutch out, arse down, elbows up and I am now off to Norwalk , with Blues skies and a full gas tank, life seemed to smile at me, as to say. ” Go on son, have a brilliant day.

moon15

Well, as I took the back streets, it took maybe 10 minutes for me to pull into Norwalk Blvd, and slowly but surely I could see Hot Rods, Customs and every kind of style of machine on either side of the road, as I pulled up to Mooneyes, I was ushered into the driveway, where upon I was blasted by the sounds of the 50’s, some fella playing a stack of platters and I was digging the vibe Daddy’O!

Moon3

I took my Brain Box off and was Greeted right away By the Manager, Chico, such a genuine bloke that I have known for over 17 years now, he welcomed me and thanked me for attending, how nice is that? Don’t hear that much these days and it goes a long way in my book. ” What book is that I hear you ask?”  The book of Pleasantries!

moon17

Man! Was it hot, not even 10:15 it was Hotter than the inside of a Pizza oven on a Saturday evening.  But I was here and there were a ton of like minded souls there, soaking up the Sun, the Sounds and all the cool vendors and machines that adorned this infamous place for a Custom Couture that I dearly love.

moon66

I left my Brain Bucket sat on my bike, another cool thing with Mooneyes is its a safe place and I love that trust ethic at a show, very rare indeed.

moon14

The next person to take time out of their day was the owner of Mooneyes and a super friend of mine.

moon2

SHIGE SUGANUMA:  What a fantastic Bloke, flys over from Japan to meet all his Customers and genuinely take time to see how you are and ask about how things in the business and life is going, a rare find these days.

With more and more people pouring in, I wanted to get around and try and take a few snaps with my phone, not an easy task as so many people darting about but, I wanted to try and share with you lot what I did today, as many like my Blogs etc.

I walked along to the Vendors and wanted to say hello to my mate Keith Weesner, such a superb artist, always has time to say hello and another bloke I have known over 17 years now and as crazy as I into Hot Rods and Art, maybe even more so.

Moon4

So many rides parked all over the place, it was fun walking around, talking to people and checking the latest machines out.

moon 1

I bumped into my mate Big Dan from the Dynotones, these guys are the best 60’s Surf, Instrumental band anywhere, they rock it 24/7, try and ctah them at one of their gigs.

http://www.dynotones.com/

I saw so many rides there today, everything from Nostalgic Hot Rods, to Metal-flake Kustoms, it was great to see other rides that I have never laid my eyes upon and everybody seemed to be having fun.

If you are ever in Sunny So Cal, check Mooneyes out, they have all you need for your ride and what a historic trip down memory Lane you will have.

http://www.mooneyesusa.com/

As the day got hotter, it was time for me to do another quick walk about and say high to friends and cross the road to see vehicles that hugged the kerbside and boy was there some neat rides there.

moon56

So, here is to the next event, this show is on until about 3-4 pm so go check it out, so easy to get to off the 5 freeway for Cars and Bikes, this has it all.

Check out the workshop too.

Hope to bump into you at this event next year, have a great weekend all of you.

ANTIQUE NATIONALS FONTANA May 2017

Well, it was that time of year already, I almost forgot it to be honest and as Jennifer was washing her Motorcycle, I loaded up my Camera and jumped onto my Triumph and headed off to see the cool Drag Racing that will be going on at Fontana drag Way .

The Sun was out and so was I, I flew up the 57 freeway, then the 60 and then the 15 and then headed to Fontana, took me about 50 minutes and was great to see many Hot Rods and Customs lined up at the staging Lanes as I pulled into the event.

I have been going to this for 17 years, this was the 47th Annual Meet and a perfect day for racing.

Once I unloaded my back pack, I had my trusty camera in my hand and walked the Pits to see what we had this year, plenty of great Nostalgia vehicles all over the place, its like a candy shop for the eye, seeing peoples rides that they chose to drive up to this part of Southern California and have a go at hitting the loud pedal on the 1/4 mile drag strip.

People from all over had turned up, I spoke to a fella from Western Australia, and then saw a bunch of guys wearing Flying Norwegian’s tee Shirts, had a chin wag to them and they wanted to come and check the place out, as they had flown in to race at El Mirage Dry lake next week with their Belly Tank racer, which was stuck at Customs, awaiting clearance, so a Great Experience for them for the first time.

fontanaa11

I never tire of this event and the reason is the weather is usually always good, the cars and bikes are fantastic to see, and also everybody is happy and wiling to talk to you about what they are up to and what their vehicle is etc. A totally cool event with a great vibe, fun for everybody in the family too.

fontan114

The other thing I like about the Fontana track is that you get close to all the action of racing, you can sit in the grand stand or stand by the fire lane and watch along the fence, you can see, smell and hear the Vintage Flatheads or the Hilborn injected Hemi’s as they hit the Loud button when the lights change from double Orange to green.

fontan120

The Pits are a great area to see people working on their cars etc, Heck you could even help sometimes, be it pass a wrench, push a car or jump right in and help on the Motor etc.

fontana27

I did not do a car count this year as i was so immersed into the event of trying to at least capture some of the rides that were attending this great show, but a nice turn out none the less and am glad that i managed to make it out here to Fontana raceway, this is right next to the NASCAR track as whilst cars was were racing up the Drag strip, you could also hear the roar of a few V8’s on the Oval track getting some lap times in.

fontana28

They also have a Go Kart track too that had a race on as well as drifting saloon cars too, so something for everyone and worth the trip up to these parts for sure.

If you are going to visit, I would make sure you take plenty of liquids, some good walking shoes and a hat, as the Sun can really bely down here, plus if you want to walk the whole track side, well you can as the pit area is huge and fun to take your time and have a look at all the vehicles that are there and, to the sound of screaming motors running beside you up the 1/4 mile is something to experience.

fontana82

I saw my Fellow Compatriot ” Tony Thacker ” Walking about taking photos with Ryan of Hop Up magazine, always a great social event too, best place to catch up with friends and of course make new ones.

fontana thacker

No attitudes, just all enthusiasts and a healthy fun vibe was felt all day. I have always dug the California lifestyle and even though I have been here 17 years, still feels like just a couple.

Below is a few sets of snaps that i took and you can look at your own time, many cool styles of cars and genre’s and I am sure at least something there to make you smile, you may not be able to smell the leaking 97’s, or feel the heat of the Fontana sun burning the back of your neck but, you can sit back with a can of your favorite suds and take in some of the cars that was at this super cool show.

Plenty to see whilst you are here and I loved it all, it is a relaxed atmosphere for racing and I have been to many race tracks over the years, if you want to just hang out and check things out at your own pace, what better than to come to this event, try and make it next year if you can and spread the word, the more, the merrier.

fontana7 fontana8 fontana9 fontana10 fontana11 fontana12

A Little bit of everything for everyone here in SoCal and I love the coupes, Roadsters, Sedans, Tudors and of course then theres the Gassers and Rails too.

I loved them all to be honest and already looking forward to next years event and hopefully can drive up in my Flathead powered 28 Roadster. Check out these rides below, just take a look at that Tri-Powered 4 banger Three Window Coupe. Really a rare machine these days and thats what I like about the Antique Nationals as there are so many Nostalgic rides here to look at close up.

So much cool Nostalgia to see, I was sure glad I had ridden up today to check this event out. I should of taken a few more but after a while, I simply forgot what car I had taken a pic of.

I am certain that you have a favorite amongst the snaps that I took on this Saturday and, if you can make it for next years event, I know you will be smiling all weekend. There is a constant running of motors, the sound of laughter and the announcer is pretty cool, letting you know who the driver is and what car he has brought to race etc. So look below as I have quite a few photos, but I wanted to share all I saw with you.

I took as many shots as I could until my battery ran low on the camera and hope that at least some of them grabbed your attention.   The Branch Family  ( Above )had a Blast too.

I know a lot to look at, so you can imaging how I felt walking around taking this all in again for another year, this seems to get bigger and better at every event and next year I hope to be driving up to the Drags in my 1928 Model A Roadster and join in with everyone.

I wish this was a two day event to be honest, then I could take my time and take it all in, time flies faster than some of the 1/4 milers when you are here but a full weekend would be a blast.

I am partial to Model A’s and loved this as it sat in the pits, great look to it.

fontana136

Cool 28/29 Roadster with the 4 banger, how Nostalgic is that with 16 inch skinny Bias Ply Firestones and an angled windshield, gives this a Period look.

fontana137

Body work is great, hope mine looks half as good when I remove my fenders this month and get a few miles under its belt.

fontana138

39 Tear drops, louvered Rumble seat deck lid and Moon discs, set this apart for sure.

fontana139

Now theres some money sat in a row, not often you see that right?

fontana142

So, until Next year, Many thanks for taking your time to see what I got up to on Saturday at Fontana in Sunny Southern California.

Mooneyes Christmas Party 2016 Irwindale

I got to work and noticed some fog and gray clouds looming as I opened my shop on a Saturday Morning, but- None the less, today was the annual Christmas Party that Mooneyes host at Irwindale drag strip and it is a not to be missed event for me, mainly because it is an awesome time for me to meet many friends from all over the place and get to ctach up on how they are doing etc.

Pulling the Triumph out onto the Road and firing her up was a good feeling as the trip is only up Three Highways and about a 35 minute ride, although as its close to Christmas now, plenty of traffic and a sharp eye was needed to watch out for cars trying to cut lanes at the last minute.

Time flew by pretty fast as I cruised at about 80 all the way and mostly in the car pool lane, my idea of that is that it is the safest route to take, being that there is a Divider wall to my left, so only things in front of me and to the side have a chance of getting me, as opposed to riding in the middle lane and being open to all and sundrie.

As I pulled off the 605, I could see the line of traffic that were waiting to get into the drag-strip area, I knew that some people had actually arrived at 3AM- for them to get a good space and enjoy the hundreds of Vehicles that attend this Hot Rod and Custom extravaganza every year.

Being on a Two wheeled machine does has its advantages, as I rolled on by everyone and right up to the entrance with no wait at all, and that’s a nice feeling for sure as some of these poor buggers had been sitting a long time in traffic.

As I pulled in to the event I could see the Sea of multicolored vehicles that were lined up similar to a Chinese military show, but that’s the only comparison to that as everyone was smiling, laughing, cooking, drinking and even dancing, and I knew today’s event would be a blast.

Most years that i have attending this show has always been cold, windy and a few ties it has been raining its arse off, and, as I left my shop in the fog, I thought to my self. “Oh no not again” But I was mistaken, as pretty much as soon as I got off my steed, the sun was coming through the clouds and could feel its warmth as I approached the entrance to the show.

I have no idea how many vehicles turned up, predominately it was Chevy and Ford, but had a sprinkling of Dodge, Chrysler, Studebaker and even Volkswagen’s were there in many guises.

I took about 60 odd photos with my I-Phone until my Battery decided to tell me on that phone that it was time for it to shut down and have a melt down, but I did get many cool shots and wanted to share them with you.

I get many people from all over the globe check my blogs out as a lot of us do not just have an interest in Motorcycling, it covers a vast spectrum of interests from Hot Rodding, Drag racing, to Low Riders and Full Custom Machines.  there was plenty to see and, if you can ever get to Southern California and check out @mooneyeschristmasparty you will be amazed at the fun you will see.

So much to see and I hope you like some of these photos that I have taken, there would of been many more if my battery hadnt died on my phone, but enjoy all of you.

The weather turned out awesome to be honest and I am met many friends that I had not seen for a long long time, so glad that I ventured out to Mooneyes Christmas Show as it never fails to be entertaining as so much is going on there and always different cars, Rods and Motorcycles to check out and people are more than willing to tell you all about what they have done.

So many different styles of machines and to be honest I wish I had enough Battery to show all the drag racing that was going on all day as that was so cool to hear Motors flat out on the 1/8th.

Many of these I have not seen before and it was great chatting to all the owners and finding out what they did to heir ride, where they are from and some even gave me some great contacts for vintage parts etc.

That Green Roadster was a Raffle Car a few years ago at Ventura and boy what a sweet ride that is, the guy who won it only had ONE $20.00 ticket and he won the ride, so awesome.

Next up is my mate Becky Sue from Anaheim Rod & Custom, a really cool Girl and great family and Hot Rod shop, so glad she got to drive her Comet. Great Job Becky!

Few more video’s this time the cars coming down the side of the track after their runs on the 1/8th mile at Irwindale.

Awesome Sling shot as it cackles its way to the pits.

Mooneyes Christmas event Irwindale

Well, Saturday Morning soon came around, a little apprehensive about the trip to Irwindale today as yesterday we had Rain on and off all day and the forecast was dry as a proverbial bone.

 photo 026_zps4f9b3ep6.jpg

But it was a nice morning and no sign of rain, but, we came to the decision to jump in the wagon, and head out to the freeway and see what this years Mooneyes show had in stall for us, on many occasions the sky’s have closed and it has poured down with H2O, so this time we were prepared.
 photo 027_zpslzawctql.jpg

The traffic was pretty good on the 5 and the 605 was even more clearer, so it took us maybe 25 minutes to make the trip to the Drag strip, but there was the usual line to get in and, I could see there was many vehicles already at the show and knew that this event would indeed be a doozy!

 photo 030_zpsknlirg80.jpg

We parked on the Oval track where they race the Speedway, so kinda cool being lined up on the third turn and headed down the incline, trying not to walk like a professional shopping cart pusher.

 photo 031_zpswvrchcrx.jpg

Once in the show, the air was filled with BBQ and Hot Dogs, as well with a good sprinkling of Rockabilly Music, and high revving cars as they staged and drag raced up the 1/8th mile strip.

 photo 032_zpsxxnqxzac.jpg

So many cars had turned up and it was fun to walk the lines of machines, checking them out and seeing what the trend is this year in the Custom world and I noticed a few Lavender painted cars in a flat finish, so that seems to be the go this year.
 photo 033_zps6ti8xqi5.jpg

Mooneyes is always a fantastic annual social event for me and was great to be able to approach some well known names in the Hot Rod industry, just to shoot the breeze etc.

 photo 036_zps8xuvwiqf.jpg

Shige from Mooneyes is always there and will stop everything he is doing to chat and genuinely ask how you are etc, so great to see him and Chico, along with Bob and Go manning the busy station, selling their infamous wares.

 photo 037_zps3p4cphgz.jpg

There were many vendors this year and ranging from cool plaid Pendletons, to custom pomade, there seemed to be a little of everything at the show and was a enjoyable checking different vendors booths to see what they had created for sale.

 photo 050_zpslhp6p0ei.jpg

I saw Vintage Hot Rod Club Coats I would of given three arms and a leg for but wrong sizes made it a unsuccessful scavenge for me this time but, proves that there are still wicked clothing out there if you are at the right place at the right time.

 photo 052_zpsxszvcfdr.jpg

 photo 053_zps9pxllhjd.jpg

 photo 054_zpsvokhhfqe.jpg

 photo 080_zps8wjnsgkn.jpg

I saw Big Nick Barns, another Ex pat living in SoCal and has been dealing in the Vintage Clothing industry over 30 years and always seems to come up with unique apparel and love seeing it.

 photo 077_zpstrgptnv9.jpg

Jennifer and I watched Buddy Dhugi and his wonderful wife Suzi, play as they always do for the moon show and this year kitted out with Christmas sweaters, albeit it was bloody hot this year.

 photo 056_zpssccpykqc.jpg

 photo 057_zpshileudxz.jpg
 photo 058_zpscwe88hcq.jpg

But their set was pretty cool and they rocked the event as they usually do, we made sure to stop and chin wag as these are the best events for an annual social gathering for us.

Next band was my mate Big Dan and he plays in the Dynotones, an awesome 60’s Surf Guitar combo and boy do they rock, loved every song and hope to book them for my annual party in march 2016.

 photo 085_zpsz6zhth3l.jpg

 photo 085_zpsz6zhth3l.jpg

We grabbed some food and hung out with some good people, I spoke to some mates I hae not seen in years, like Dean from Dice Magazine etc and Dennis Roth was in his element having fun with people in his Crazy Custom Flaked machine.

 photo 064_zpsxwopwp7r.jpg

 photo 067_zpsrlvnjtro.jpg

The sound of bands playing, and Gassers racing up the strip every few minutes is an awesome experience and one you should at least try Once, just to be able to truly understand what I am on about, it is a really cool show- busy but cool.

 photo 118_zpshnzkyv1h.jpg

So many cars to see, make sure you allocate a few hours just to observe these fantastic machines as we walked isle upon aisle and people were more than happy to tell you about their car and how it came about etc.

 photo 071_zpsaqxwzjfw.jpg

Now this Roadster you see is a show car, something many of you and I dream about, Jennifer asked the guy if it was his and with a smile on his face he said yes.
 photo 196_zpspgexly7p.jpg

I asked him about the 40 ford dash and he said it was a 40 ford dash but- he did not build the car, he won it in a raffle.

 photo 195_zpsa3ex7bwp.jpg

I was gobsmaked as i remember the Roadster being as a raffle car at Ventura a few years ago, he said he had watched the Roadster being built via instagram etc and he bought ONE $20 ticket, he went to the show but came home as it was his 32nd Birthday, the phone rang and he thought it may be one of his buddies wishing him all the best, but infact it was ventura asking him if he had abought a raffle ticket for the car. He said yes and then she said, well you have won it!!

 photo 197_zpssmdlkglc.jpg

 photo 199_zpst9lwcbya.jpg

Jeez, for $20 a $40,000 Built Roadster, they even had the builder drive it to his house and he drives it every weekend, lucky man, I always hear about raffles and never believe they are legit and you never see the winner, but this was the real deal and for $20 he won that awesome machine.

Jenn informs me she is doing Raffles from now on and, I tend to agree with her it seems like it may just be worth the chance, but such a great story on that Roadster.

Mooneyes always brings over their super cool pinstripers from Japan and they turn out some super cool work quickly.

 photo 060_zpstqvbzstu.jpg

A great event and so much to see, make sure you get here early to be able to take it all in.

 photo 062_zpsrchmizha.jpg

Another Pinstriper is Hot Rod, he has been doing this for many many years.

 photo 072_zpswxos8z2r.jpg

This Blue 29 Roadster was pretty cool parked up and sun bathing.

 photo 074_zpsu7xw9svr.jpg

I loved this tough 55 Gasser in Candy Paint, sure sounded menacing too.
 photo 075_zpsd2ntkwm0.jpg

This mid 60’s Ranchero was so bang on the money for styling .

 photo 076_zpsfiwhzlwu.jpg

Legends in the Hot Rod Art world, Robert and Suzy Williams were in attendance too.

 photo 083_zpsnax6ijco.jpg

Here is my mate GO hat works at Mooneyes and is a super nice fella.

 photo 090_zpsnfp1raba.jpg

Organ pipes on this roadster sounded like a broken fan in a fridge.
 photo 091_zpsoas1xayo.jpg

29 roadster pick up but too low to pick anything up.

 photo 091_zpsoas1xayo.jpg

This green T was pretty cool.

 photo 094_zpsx7q5z2tr.jpg

Another channeled Roadster sits on the deck.

 photo 094_zpsx7q5z2tr.jpg

Now, I would drive this home no problem.

 photo 098_zpsbwiovtzb.jpg

A nice sprinkling of Roadsters were here this year.

 photo 100_zpsj4zmzfnd.jpg

A few Custom Low riders too, a lot of masking to do this.

 photo 103_zpsoyrce6nv.jpg

Like I said, there are all sorts f machines here, enough for everyone’s taste.

 photo 104_zps3t6zisez.jpg

Well, it is the Christmas show.

 photo 105_zpsu84qhgti.jpg

Now this is what I am talking about, I love the straight Axle Gassers.

 photo 106_zpsh8yycuyp.jpg

This was a sweet 58 I would love to own.

 photo 107_zps959epukb.jpg

Amazing, as I live in SoCal, youd think you seen all the rides and then you come to Mooneyes show and loads of cool stuff not seen before.

 photo 110_zps6i4ifzqf.jpg

Plenty of Chevys thats for sure.

 photo 111_zpsnouakhnp.jpg

I dug this pick up, would be a fun parts ride.

 photo 112_zpsp8bnofai.jpg

This was pretty cool to see and I am sure he has fun with it with that Motor.

 photo 113_zpsjabqjazl.jpg

Even the Old Bill were cool.

 photo 114_zpsc5eoeegv.jpg

Loved this Kustom Pontiac.

 photo 115_zpskrajulje.jpg
Nice color scheme I thought.

 photo 116_zpsn0jswrdl.jpg

Always great to see some classic Tin here.

 photo 117_zps9w0xbzg8.jpg

Frenched Lights and a floating grill was cool.

 photo 120_zpspmwe5tjy.jpg

These are Custom from right out of the show room.

 photo 124_zps9iogjltc.jpg

How can you not like this Lincoln front end.
 photo 125_zpsdofi8x3k.jpg

Always loved these and the body goes on for miles.

 photo 126_zpsfyo1a4j8.jpg
 photo 127_zpsadishw3d.jpg

Now this is right on the deck.

 photo 127_zpsadishw3d.jpg

Rather odd choice of color but it works.

 photo 129_zpsatjbfcjq.jpg

Loved this 57 Belair as a gasser, the best years for me for gassers are the big straight axled heavy Bricks.

 photo 131_zpstpeihsnk.jpg

Slammed Custom Roadster for the use of a better word.

 photo 132_zps8ho7tmwh.jpg

Three hungry birds.

 photo 138_zpslkv7uud4.jpg

59 Club Ride out to Ruby’s Cruise Night in Whittier this evening.

OK, tonight at about 5:30 we are going to take a little ride out to Whittier, to see some cool Classic cars as Ruby’s Diner puts on a show Every Friday and always a cool place to hang out, look at the rides, check the 50’s Diner out and hear the sounds of yesteryear as you walk around the Parking lot to see the Cool machines pull in and out.

This is a fun event and Jennifer and I regularly check it out but as its fathers Day this weekend, many will be turning out as the Fathers day Roadster show will be on in Pomona, so people come from all over the USA in their machines to attend that event, so this is a great stop over for them.

Great rides for all to see, My Passion for these classic Motors is of course the good Old roadster or the old style Custom.

So see if you can get down there tonight, as it is on until 9pm and will be warm tonight too, perfect to get that old machine out.

Above, this Scot Blown Flatty sounds the business and sure would love to own it, you never know what will turn up at this event and that’s what makes it cool.

Every body loves seeing the Straight Axle Gassers and I am sure there will be some there again and everyone is approachable and loves to chin wag.

Love this Kemp Kustom and with three 97’s too!

Hope to see some of you there.

Where is it?

ANTIQUE NATIONALS- Great Sunday out.

Well Sunday was a bloody Hot day to be at the drags but for some cool rides and great racing, the Antique nationals is always a fun event.
Below Marky of the Shifters, puts his ” Purple people Eater” through it’s paces and this time the Altered is pretty much sorted and puts the power down to the Tarmac, I think the photographers were expecting that Epic 4 wheel Arial run from last year, but it was sweet, she hooked and launched, good job Marky.

Always great to see the Hot rods run and this time on the 1/4 mile so they can really stretch their Flathead powered legs.

Awesome atmospher and everyone is friendly at this Annual event.

I’m not the best camera guy but wanted to capture as much as I could in the heat.

Diane Branch gets into it and love seeing Girls race and she was quick too.

The staging lanes had some cool rides getting ready to let it all go on the 1/4.

Squeak Bell of the Shifters runs his Chopped rod and is sat right in the backseat area, so Nostalgic and fun to watch, albeit my wobbly filming but was trying to watch him and film at the same time.

Cragar powered Midget looked so awesome, but took too long to make a pass, but got hm sitting on the track.

Always love the Gassers and plenty of them to see at Fontana this weekend too.

Diane Branch takes the Win, great to see and of course hear.

My mate Charles Girlfriend Runs her coupe and gets away well, only to be pipped at the end.

I love Motorcycles as you know.

The WL surely was a fun and fast machine for its time and still running strong.

Always great to see a couple of Trumpys going at it.

Let’s hope next year we get more bikes to race each other.

Dakota Races at Fontana Drags this weekend

Anyone around the Fontana area should see if they can make time to hit the Drag strip and wish our shop grease monkey- Dakota Kai Sun- all the very best as he runs not only against his pops ” Aaron “Twist the Wrist Pine”  but many other super fast and cool people that will be running against him this weekend.

Dakota is still the points leader in the series and sure hope that he continues to be in top form as he goes up against the rest of the field on Saturday at Fontana in the NHRA Summit Series.

Below , Dakota lines up at irwindale to race his old man and both on their numbers too, this is always exciting to see these guys run and everybosy in the championship as racing is so tight.

I shall be there on Sunday with Jennifer Dakota’s Mum , come by to watch some brilliant racing, everyone is friendly and you can get so close to all the action.

Come see the speed these nutters get up to and wave on 7111- Dakota Kai Sun- to another great weekend of racing.

MOONEYES CHRISTMAS SHOW THIS SATURDAY DEC 7th

Well, it is that time of year again and the MOON-EYES Christmas party is all set for this coming Saturday at the Irwindale Drag strip, I shall be going with Dakota and maybe if I can get Jennifer my girlfriend to come along, that would make such a great Saturday for me.

The Mooneyes show is a big event and one you really should try and get too, admittedly parking can be a royal pain in the arse, as there is only really one road in and be prepared to be sat in a traffic jam for a while, as I have done every time, but once in, you can chill and just walk around the show, see the Hot Rods, Custom Cars, Custom trucks, Low Riders and Custom Cycles that are in the show area, the parking lot will have many cool rides too, so always some great eye candy to be had by all.

http://bangshift.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Mooneyes-2013-Xmas-Party-Schedule.jpg

Then there are the Drags that will be running all day, if you want to see and hear Classic iron racing each other over the 8th mile, then this is the place to be for you.

There will also be cool sounds coming from the bands that will be banging out their tunes and much to see, as there will be many Vendors to show you what they have and offer.

Good food, good sounds and the amazing sounds of the drags makes this a MUST see event of the year.

People attend this show from not just California, they get people from all over the globe and I have not been dissapointed yet, I hope to see some of you out there and just relax, and make sure that you take your camera, as there will be a huge bunch of amazing rides there and plenty to show your family and friends back home once you are done.

Check all the vendors out as this is the best place to find all your low brow and custom stuff, great for Christmas gift buying and of course, supporting these local vendors helps them too.

Everything from Tee shirts, Hot Rod parts, Custom artwork, pinstriping, and the girls can find all their clothing, bags and make up, so it covers everyone, mum, dad, kids an all.

Now- the Gates open at 6am but I will be up there probably about 10am and I really hope I get to see some of you out there, it’s an awesome social event that needs to be publicized as much as possible and this is the best show at this time of year.

Hundreds of entrants guarantees that there really is something for everyone at this event.

See you there!!!!!!!!

IRWINDALE DRAGS LAST NIGHT

 photo 003_zps9f37dfd4.jpg

Thursday run what ya brung was a fun evening to be had that’s for certain, I was amazed at how many people turned up for the event, we drove in at about 7pm and there were cars all over the place getting into the staging lanes.

 photo 012_zpsf5e68e13.jpg

Once we parked, it is an easy walk to the track and to be honest- for spectators, this is a great vantage point to see racing from the whole length of the 1/8th mile.

There was so may entrants is was great to see so many different rides out there and the temperature was near on perfect for Racing.
 photo 013_zpsfb2a7cbb.jpg

We walked the staging lanes and it was more packed than Superman in a kids costume.

 photo 016_zpscc610613.jpg

It was funny to hear people brown nosing their competitors, or hearing another bloke telling everyone how great his ride was and what it can do etc.

 photo 015_zps5b7629aa.jpg

I personally love the 50’s and 60’s era of the drags the Gasser wars are the best as these are just Bricks in shape but haul so much arse!!!

 photo 017_zpse14af024.jpg

The track was actually prepped for a change and only one issue all night , that’s quite rare.

 photo 006_zpse8716bbd.jpg

As they track now has advertising banners, the roar of the motors sound even louder as the sounds bounce off the walls.

 photo 004_zps3cc70c94.jpg

Plenty to see at the race and am glad that we went as it was fast and quite furious at times.

 photo 010_zps6644f3ad.jpg

This 55 was tough and is a regular at the track and is a dialed in machine. Reminds me of my old one I had back in the UK in 1996.

 photo 009_zps1fcb4145.jpg

Many different models are in the staging lanes and it was great to be able to stroll up and have a look at what they were running etc.

 photo 005_zpsd4c9cd41.jpg

This ride blew everyone’s mind, it is a 4 second 1/8th miler so he had to Slow down to 5’s here as the track runs out real quick, but boy was it FAST !!!

 photo 002_zps10848f2f.jpg

Constant 6 seconds this machine and the old fella that drove it was grinning all the way.

 photo 001_zps9e33efed.jpg

This was a tight ride and the thing just dug in and rode hard all the way down the track.

 photo 007_zps72e15574.jpg

Yep- running the devils time up here is a wee bit daunting for me.

 photo 043_zpsa82a9e02.jpg

This fella ran his quad, high 8’s and low 9’s but he was having fun that’s for sure.

 photo 023_zps312a4c0d.jpg

Everyone’s delight was watching the local ice cream van roar up the strip, whilst playing his music and the crowd hollered hard, he took the race easily too.

 photo 025_zps36e16a65.jpg

And the winner gets an Ice Cream !!!!

 photo 019_zps8f40b5f0.jpg

Bikes ran too and at night I would find it a little bit unnerving but I love Motorcycles so much the fear for them goes away, this takes a lot of heart and determination for motorcycles as there is a bad bump on the right side of the track and if you get that lane, you will be sure to bang your chin on the tank Hard when you hit that point.

My little camera is not good at night but I thought I would add some videos for you to watch that I took.

It is always good to come and attend a local track as they need your support to keep people drag racing off the street.

We had a super night and am glad that I took my camera with me to try and share some of the nights events.

If you are ever in Southern California, try and check out Irwindale as it has a Dragstrip and Speedway circuit.

Have a Great weekend everyone.
