Old footage of back in the day and what we are into.

Well, I have seen this footage before but cannot remember for the life of me if I have Blogged about it, thats old age catching up you see.

I grew up with Motorcycles and many being just hand me downs or something I have managed to resurrect over time as I simply didn’t have the money back in the 1970’s, I left school in 1978 but in 1972 and 1974 Arthur Scargill put the Coal Miners on strike and again and a  decade later, he led the union through the 1984–85 miners’ strike, a major event in the history of the British labour movement. It turned into a confrontation with the Conservative government of Margaret Thatcher in which the miners’ union was heavily suppressed.

Many people were unemployed over 3 million to be exact, and seeing as we only had 50 Million people as the population that was a huge loss in the countries earnings and it was hard to afford anything at all, especially new.

Then we discovered Hire Purchase, the never never as we called it, you can buy something new on tick and just pay for it out of your wages every month, how cool was that.

1-Ton-Up-770x472

But watching this video I realized how lucky I was to have just the piece of crap bike and do my own wrenching to make it stand out from the rest but- apart from that, I wanted to be the fasted bike around and did all I can to squeeze every last possible drop of HP from my machine, no matter if it made the motorcycle regularly break down, you knew your bike and had parts to fix it.

2-Ton-Up-770x472

I can relate to this Ton up crew, they may of been 10 years before me but the working class folk didnt change at all for another couple of decades, now we have a middle class and consider myself to be in that guise but I am not embarrassed at what we didnt have as I was super stoked with what I did have.

599593_10151505896031760_1958686537_n

So I wanted to share a few videos with you today to show the good old British spirit and even as it may seem a little suppressed, we made the most of what we had and still do today. And below you will see some News reel that shows what went on at the Bank Holidays in Britain.

Now my Old Man is a Cockney, a bit of a hot head and was a Teddy Boy in the East End of London, Walthemstowe to be exact, a real Cockney as he was Born within the sound of Bow bells.
Now, everyone talks about the fights at Brighton with the Mods and the Rockers, its well documented indeed these days.

Screen Shot 2014-01-15 at 14.40.56
My old man went there once in a blue moon but would prefer to go to the other Beach resorts of Clacton on Sea or Southend on Sea, and that is where many dust ups occurred between Mods and Rockers, many big seaside resorts had these Bank Holiday brawls and many flocked to be part of it as with failing Youth clubs and strict families, Teenagers needed to blow off steam and this is what they did.

1953 Newspapers Clapham Common

Not just them, in the 70’s and 1980’s thats what me and My Brother did too, I’d go to Brighten or up the East coast to Great Yarmouth and Mods and Rockers would get into it there, looking back I am a little embarrassed about it but its my life and my old Mans- And I wont hide the fact that is what went on in my youth, just part of life at that time I suppose.

Also we had Whitsun Holidays just like another bank holiday we would all go to the Sea Side and they were known back then as the Battle on the beaches.

So I wanted just to show a few Videos on here to give you a little understanding of what went on, its all water under the bridge and I have some fantastic mates that were Mods, we all get on but back then we were like 2 opposing football teams.

Plenty here for you to watch and take in and see if you can get your head around this rebellious era that was so much a part of my life.

Some of the videos will show real footage etc and just goes to show how the Young generation were rebelling, when positives and Negatives touch, well, of course you are going to get sparks.

And now we see more and more women riders and I really love it, my girlfriend Jennifer rides and so enjoy seeing her take off down the tarmac.

Lets get more Women on Machines its so much fun, when the two of you do the Ton.

RE

We meet up and go on rides and even have a camp out soon at Joshua tree its going to be fun riding with my Girl.

59 Club O.C. takes a Ride out to Palas Verdes July 9th.

Well, July came in fast and Hot, so hot infact I wasn’t too sure if I should jump on the Trumpy but once I slung on My leather jeans and boots, I knew I was committed to doing this ride and to be honest, even though it was crazy Hot here in La Mirada, we were riding to the coast and will at least get some Sea Breeze to help us cool down.

I really enjoy going out and riding with a bunch of friends and today was no exception.

So, we pulled the Triumphs out, I fueled up early in the Morning, Jenn went off and got hers whilst I lubed my chain, checked tire pressure and did a visual inspection on my Thruxton, as everybody should really do when they are going on a ride. Once that was completed, we waited for Tim Albright who is a mate of ours, and is a 59 Club member as well as living just up the road from us, soon as he pulled up, we got ready to make the trip to the Meet up, of which that was a few miles up the road at a Burger joint.

1

Plenty of people turned up for this July ride and was great to see some Newbies that had seen our posting for a ride and have them come hang out and see what the 59 Club is all about.

1a

Fellow Brit Brendan Cowman turned up on his Thruxton Ace, he is originally from Birmingham and an Aston Villa fan, I cant hold that against him though. LOL.

24

We all made sure we had fuel and discussed quickly the route that we would be taking, going to Palas Verdes will be a nice change and, even though it was hot as hell right now, I knew the sea air would be a lot cooler as we got closer to the beaches etc.

1aa

Jennifer lead for a bit and I was super stoked to see her take the lead, its fun to see everyone having fun, we had fun right out of the Bat as Amanda forgot her license, so whilst she went and got that, we got ready and then left a few minutes later and turned up outside her house, such a blast as I am sure the neighbors must of wondered what the hell was going on as 16 riders pull up on Triumphs and Moto Guzzi and stop outside Amanda’s house.

Soon as we did that we took a couple of pics and made our way to the cooler part of SoCal, even if it was only a couple of degree’s, it would make all the difference., the ride was pretty hot to start of with but the closer to the Sea you got, the better the air was becoming, something I think we all needed with this crazy weather pattern we have now.

The ride was fun as we took side streets and only got separated for a few seconds as having 16 riders can take the road up and the traffic lights caught us out, but being an organised club, soon as they notice missing riders, the main group pull over to wait for us. It worked out really well and enjoyed the ride through the back streets, although long beach was an eye opener but fun none the less.

We rode up past terminal island and into Palos Verdes, the smooth winding Coastal roads were a nice change, although we did have a huge Van going slow for a few miles, but laughing at the people playing Gold at Trumps place made it worth while.

4a 4b 4c 4d 4e

We stopped off in this parking lot opposite the sea and found a really cool Pub that was tucked in the corner of a bunch of Nail salons etc, called OFlahertys Tap House and boy was it a fun little Bar, the Barman was a great laugh and made us all what we wanted, we stayed there at least 90 minutes, soaking up a few suds and having some food, looking at old Platinum albums and cassette tapes in frames and vintage guitars, it suited the barman who was with out a shadow of a doubt an old school headbanger.

Although Steve Fellon Below looked like he had one too many! LOL!

5

It made for a superb stop to be honest and gave us some time to cool down and have a chine wag with everyone, and after a couple of Lager Shandys, I was ready to get back on the Tarmac once more and have a fun ride back.

12

There were 16 Riders and it was a good turn out, everyone was great, no issues and no break downs, and as we went up through the twisties I took a video or two just to keep and show later on.

9

A fun day out and more to come as we head on into the riding year with many great places to visit.

We always have fun, no pressure, no attitude, just a great time with all.

Thanks again for reading my Blog today.

59 Club O.C. Section had a Great weekend.

Hey all

Well, this weekend was quite a busy one for the 59 Club Orange County Section as Saturday Morning we all met up at Boys Burgers and then Jennifer and Amanda both led the Club on the route to the Classic car and Motorcycle show that was being held at Seal beach.

sealaa1

The day was Hot and an early start was needed to try and get to the event before we started to cook, as every year it is warm there, even though it is by the beach, it gets bloody scorching some times, so, with 15 riders we headed towards the Seal beach area.

sealaa3

Great Formation of riders and very enjoyable ride, its way better than just jumping on a freeway as they tend to be boring, dangerous and not much to look at.

sealaa4

We arrived at the Naval Grounds and was greeted by the Navy Soldiers, who kindly showed where we could park our two wheeled machines, it was right by the water and a nice breeze to have on us.

We then left the bikes under armed guards and then we caught a free shuttle bus to the event, it was an old British Double Decker with some of the upper windows taken out and felt nice with the cool sea air coming through the bus as we took the short 5 minute trip to the event.

This show is enormous and usually everyone veers off to their favorite car or motorcycle and we either bump into each other or catch up later on.

Jennifer and Amanda led the group and did a fantastic job, well done Girls!

The Sun was starting to bake us but what a great show with tons of Cool Classic iron to look at and further up on the seafront they had the Motorcycle section.

Plenty to see there too and this Annual event seems to be getting bigger and bigger, great to see but I think they need a few more Vendors as so many people come to this show nopw, I know people would buy their wares.

I may have a booth and show a bike at the next one, problem is, there are so many events on through out the summer here in California, it is hard to keep up with what is what and I end up forgetting, then kick myself later on.

If you can make this show- Try and do it and there is something for everyone here, a Mixture of Cars, Trucks and Motorcycles and the atmosphere is really great, everyone is happy and more than happy to talk about their ride they have on display.

I had a blast but the weather was bloody warm and amazing as its by the beach, but there are a lot of shops and restaurants to go and check out too if you get out here.

Below, I bumped into  Fellow Brit.-Mike Brewer from the TV show- Wheeler Dealers, he has a New side kick and was trying some live video at the show, ya never know who you may meet at an event we go to.

sealaa82

We stayed for quite a few hours and could of easily stayed longer if the Sun stayed back a bit, but a great Saturday and a relaxing ride with great friends.

Tomorrow we ride to Griffith park to see our mate Andrew Chaves place as he works at live Steamers where all the smaller gauge trains are built, serviced and run, should be a blast!

It’s always fun with the 59 club, come and check us out  we are on meetup.com under Carpys Cafe Racer Meetups 59 Club OC and maybe you would like to come ride with us?

Mods Vs Rockers 2015 Ride

Well, this weekend I thought I would try out a new – ish ride that is in LA and it was big wheel little wheel but now called mods Vs Rockers.I have no idea why it is named that as there was maybe three Rockers there and I was one of them, None the less a fun ride up in the Canyons and I enjoyed myself.

First off Andy and I rode down to the cafe 50’s restaurant in Santa Monica, what a swell place and I loved it in there, as it exactly the place that I really enjoy.

This place has so many cool original artifacts, they should have tours going through the joint, it was amazing and many years to get all the cool stuff in there.

I was stoked to be able to have my breakfast here and they played original Rockin tunes through the juke boxes on the tables, it was just superb.

If you are into old 50’s places and diners, this is a MUST on your ports of call as it really is a work of art and so nice to see these still around these days.

I wanted it all for my shop, from the Big Jukebox in the main galley to all the original Lobby posters that adorned the walls of this kitschy Diner.

I loved sitting here and was glad to have arrived about 20 minutes earlier than planned as it gave me time to check all the cool stuff out in the restaurant.

And I shall visit again as the service was great and a brilliant atmosphere for those who dont like it.

Below:

Billy Joe From San Diego and the New president of the San Diego 59 Club sits astride his Vintage Beemer, and Andy from the O.C. 59 Club cruises with us as we head to the meeting point at Atlantis Motorcycles.

005

Below is Andre Pine- California president and soon to be starting the L.A. Section, riding his Trumpy and wearing his trusty Davida and Lewis Leathers.

004

Not much time to take photo’s as my camera was in my jacket but liked this shot I managed to grab as we were waiting in some traffic in Hollywood.

006

The weather actually rained a little on the way down here for Andy and I but soon started to warm up and I knew it was going to be hot later in the twisties.

008

Andy pulling into a space as we stop at the meeting point at Atlantis motors, and it was already starting to warm up as the day got along.

007

A little CB350 some Young Lass turned up was in great condition for an original, all sorts of motorcycles were turning up here at mid day.

009

I had no idea how many would show up at this event as this was my first time but wanted to  turn up for this function to see what it was all about.

012

There was a lot of bikes parked up and people were all great to have a chin wag with.

017

We hang around and checked out the bikes that Atlantis motorcycles had at their new shop and enjoyed the atmosphere with all involved.

018

Plenty of Machines in and around their shop to look at in may conditions and some I would of loved to take back home too.

019

From Goldwings to BSA’s, Atlantis Motorcycles has a Plethora of machines to have a good look at and they seem to be a busy place too in a great area.

But chatted to Marc Atkinson as he was leading the way to the camp ground up through Angeles Crest Highway and through the great twisties., Below I am working out the route we are taking for this afternoons ride up the Canyon.

Below: Walking around the Workshop of Atlantis, checking out any goodies they may want to let me have and take home with me!

Plenty of Old Tin to look at and a few of them were for sale too if you fancied a little project to play with on the weekends.

021

Plenty to look and see and an array of Machines were planted firmly on the ground at the workshop and they had some pretty cool machines there I would of loved to have as my own to be honest.

027

If you can get down to this neck of the woods, come check them out as I am sure they can help you with what ever you need and open late too.

025

Skid lid anybody? just a few bits and bobs they had at their shop for you to have a look at.

030

Andre, Billy Joe and Kirsten from the 59 Club, shoot the breeze on this warm afternoon and get ready soon to jump on our machines and head off.

031

The three Presidents at one meet up, pretty cool.

035

A few people as we were riding away starting to follow up behind and there was quite a noise to be heard of different brands of Motorcycles.

036

Pulled up at the Gas station right off the 210 and before the start of the climb up 3000 feet to the ranch where I would hang out and then make the trek back down, just because, well, I can!

037

The Scooters turn up and get Petrol in their tanks and get ready to all leave for this ride.

038

All sorts of bikes were here for the run and I thought  I would take a few snaps whilst I had my camera at the ready to show you lot todays event.

041

More Mods than Rockers thats for sure, I think they named this run wrong as this is not a Mods and Rockers event at all, just a meet up to be honest.

043

Ringa- A ding Dinga’s are almost ready to whizz off up the Canyon with Blue smoke behind them.

045

A neat little set up that My Girlfriend Jennifer would of loved to have owned as this looked to be all original.

048

Getting ready to fire the bikes up as we leave the gas station and make our way up the winding road to have fun in the Corners.

049

Time to saddle up and get this bloody show on the road as I was getting Hot as the temperature started to gain on us.

051

Billy J gets bored going slow, so we hang back a little bit so we can scrape our foot pegs again as the roads get a little technical up there.

052

Andre Pine giving it his best Elvis Impression and failing miserably as we wait for a few to catch up.

053

Trumpy at the ready as we get set to take a few more corners at a few more miles per hour than many but- its not a race, we just like to ride Hard!

054

One Mile from the camp Ground at Newcombs Ranch that is situated in La Canada – Flintridge and a good resting point for sure.

056

Andre pulls in and looks to be chuffed that he had some good times in the twisties, almost getting taken out by a guy and a Girl on One scooter, but he held the throttle and they didnt get passed again.

058

Chillin wit Big Scotty, a fun bloke and his laughter is as big as his frame, top guy and really enjoyed his company

A nice break as at the top of the hill the weather was Humid as hell and time to relax for a bit before I headed back down again.

059

Beemer with a Chair pulling up to have a much needed rest, them things are not the easiest Motorcycles to maneuver on a good day on the flat let alone up a mountain!

061

Little brat Honda, Bangs along with no worries on the way to the campground and loaded for Bear by the look of it.

063

Hanging with the 59 Club, thats what its all about, these people are like Family to me and we sure have fun what ever we do.

064

Getting warmer and was glad I could get a chance to take the leather off for a bit as the humidity was really bad today and felt like a tropical Island.

065

Fun ride though and I enjoyed getting my Knee down in the bends, sometime not knowing whats beyond, but great views too as you are so far up.

075

At the top of the hill and just taking a few minutes to look at this area, untouched and so nice to see rather than Concrete jungles.

079

I am looking forward to the next time I ride up here, we are so spoilt in California for some great roads to ride on still and its good therapy for me too.

084

Above, Andy on his Thruxton, a newbie at riding but handled it well and glad he enjoyed it as there is nothing like riding a Motorcycle in the Canyons.

085

I saw Steve Natt at the Bottom of the Hill, he had an oil light issue, just turned out to be a bad connection so all OK.

086

A great ride on a Saturday with good weather and hardly any traffic up the hill, but bucket loads on the 210 Freeway coming home.

A great fun day and come out with us sometime, i am sure you will love it as we really all get along and enjoy the day.

Steve McQueen Show at Chino Hills

Today was a great morning, a little overcast, but ideal for our ride today as it was that time of year to head out to Chino Hills for the Annual Steve McQueen event and boy was I looking forward to it as this is a huge show with plenty of stuff to look at.

So, look below and you can see what we saw, I loved the ride there as we didn’t have to touch a freeway at all and went up Carbon Canyon through some nice twisties and just a brilliant day, i want to thank all my lot for coming out and making the day a really fun one.

My Girlfriend Jennifer  followed up and we spent the day looking at some super rare machines ad great food too.
